The SpaceA spacious double room in a cozy, cottage on a secluded farm, nestled in the Wiltshire countryside surrounded by meadows and with an apple orchard in the back yard (the listing says it's in Oaksey, but really it's about 2 miles outside of the village). This quiet escape is a great base from which to explore the Cotswolds, or equally, a happy space in which to stay in and just "be". Orchard Cottage is a great place if you like: * Walking (the nearest public footpath is right outside my door) * Birdwatching (I live on a bird refuge) * Wildflowers (the farm has never been sprayed by pesticides so is home to acres of natural hay and wildflower meadows) * Our four-legged canine friends - the surrounding meadows are a great place for dog walks * Getting away from it all while still having the option to be technologically "connected" (I have WIFI, but no TV!) * Good food made with quality organic ingredients (either made by me or sourced from the many great suppliers in the area) * Sitting around a campfire - we have a brazier in the garden where you can have a wood fire to cook on or simply to sit at and relax around * Feeling like you're really in the middle of nowhere - you'll be half a mile from a main road, and the cottage faces only a barn, an orchard, and meadows, so you won't be interrupted by people or traffic noise! * Being surrounded by character (be it in the architecture of the building, the nature of the landscape, or in the vivid personalities of your hosts!) * Spending time in a space that may be centuries old but still has all of the modern conveniences (WIFI, dishwasher, open plan, double glazing) * Really old oak beams The cottage is a converted barn originally built in the late 1700's with wonderful high ceilings and beautiful oak beams. This means you get old English charm with all of the modern conveniences. The place has also been fitted with double-glazed windows and good central heating so you'll always be warm (alas not always true of these old English cottages!). NEWS FLASH! We have recently replaced the bedroom carpets and the rest of the cottage has new laminate flooring! Gotta love that fresh feeling! The cottage is on a wildlife reserve, a great spot for hiking, cycling and all manner of water sports, from fishing to swimming to scuba diving. It's conveniently located to Cirencester, a cute little market town with an interesting Roman history, and other attractive Cotswold villages like Bourton on the Water, Castle Combe, Nailsworth, Lacock and Stroud. The nearest train station is Kemble, about 15 minutes away, where you can take a 1h20m train to London Paddington if you fancy a day out in the city. Similar trains go to Bristol, Bath and beyond. The space includes a shared bathroom (with a great shower), kitchen (fully kitted out) and a huge garden with a great gas grill for barbecues and a brazier for an open fire. You'll be staying at the home of Monica and Andrew, both enthusiastic about food and the great outdoors. We love cooking so you needn't ever go hungry. Your stay includes a help-yourself breakfast of homemade bread, butter, jam, fresh fruit, muesli, coffee, tea and milk. We can also arrange to have other ingredients on hand by prior arrangement. You are, of course, welcome to dine out, and there are some fabulous restaurants and pubs nearby. Or cook your own food in my kitchen, which is well-equipped with some great gadgets and you're welcome to use the basic supplies like salt, pepper, olive oil and spices. If you need transport, groceries or anything else, just let us know ahead of time and we'll work something out at a mutually acceptable price. Being big fans of walking and the outdoors, Andrew and Monica can advise on some great local walks in the area. Your 3rd host is a young spunky terrier named Lucky. He's part of the family so please if you're not into dogs, do consider booking elsewhere. On the flip side, we LOVE dogs and happily welcome guests with their own four legged friends. Unfortunately we cannot allow cats (my cottage is in a bird sanctuary - no cats allowed!). Guest AccessYou will have access to your own bedroom plus a shared bathroom, kitchen, and living space, as well as the garden. Monica and Andrew have a separate office / bedroom which is the only area that is off limits. Interaction with GuestsWe love to meet our guests and are usually around but on the weekends we do sometimes go away on adventures of our own. If we are away we will always make sure you are provided for with the necessary information, food, keys, etc. Getting AroundThere is plenty of parking right outside the cottage. You really do need a car here as I am quite off the beaten path and there is no convenient public transit.

Guests wishing to use the water sports facilities will also have to pay as they use these. They include cable water skiing, canoeing and kayaking, amongst many others. Our guests are allowed to practise kayaking at Isis and Windrush lakes free of charge Fishing is permitted, free of charge to our guests, straight onto the lake, just a few metres from the property. Nearby, there are two fantastic golf courses and multiple walking and cycling paths. Interaction with GuestsWe will keep regular communications with our guests during the planning stage of their booking. If we happen to be in the country, we will do our most to meet and greet our guests personally. However, this is not always possible and to that end, we have designed a trouble-free checking in and out process and a very comprehensive house manual. It works! The NeighborhoodThe Cotswold Water Park is an area of outstanding beauty. With more than 140 lakes, it offers a retreat from the urban environment and a calm and tranquil setting. Similarly, those seeking the thrill of trying different water sports can do so easily at one of the lakes nearby. The development is gated and manned by security staff, 24/7. Entrance is only allowed by appointment. This means it is extremely safe for young children to ride their bikes along the path or to play outside with little supervision. Getting AroundThe nearest train station is Kemble which serves trains from and to Paddington. There are local buses, but we recommend having access to a car. For a weekend, however, there is plenty to do by foot, or by bike, including visiting the local pubs! Other Things to NoteFor a number of years now, there has been a strong maritime influence in our family. The lodge is named "The Rocklight" after a vessel of the same name which peacefully navigated the British waters in 1890. However, an intriguing, legal dispute arose between the owners and crew members of the Rocklight and another vessel called the Darro. Recently, and by chance, we came across the original Court papers detailing the case between the two ships, as it was heard by the Admiralty Jurisdiction in the Court House at Whitehaven in January 1891. These documents are now framed and displayed in our lodge and they have been and continue to be our inspiration. Come and see...

The lodge is fronted by grass to the lakeside. Perfect for a spot of Croquet, frisbee or a kick-about! Jackie, who meets all our guests and lives on the lake as well, is available during your stay to answer any questions you may have about the local area. The NeighborhoodWe bought One Spring as a quiet retreat from our busy lives in Cheltenham and look forward to sharing it with you all! We're keen watersports enthusiasts and have spent many an hour wakeboarding behind the boat. Having such a comprehensive watersports school on-site will hopefully be a real draw As pet owners, we know how hard it can be to find pet friendly accommodation. One of the most stylish country-house hotels, Gloucestershire's Barnsley House is an imposing grade II-listed manor-house within 11 acres of grounds, designed by former owner Rosemary Verey, legendary gardener, designer and writer. The owners have been on a mission to chuck out the chintz, but have done so with the utmost respect for original features, adding a contemporary spa and seamlessly blending the old with the new. The muted tones of the traditional paints make a perfect backdrop to the B&B Italia square-backed swivel armchairs.

There is a wealth of information about the area available from the Cotswold Water Park Website. We provide all guests with a comprehensive guide to local attractions, activities, pubs and restaurants. Jackie, who meets all our guests and lives on the lake as well, is available during your stay to answer any questions you may have about the local area. *Spring Lake* If you're a watersports fan, the on-site Watersports club provides waterskiing, wakeboarding and inflatable rides throughout the day.The on-site brasserie provides a great informal dining environment and bar only a 2 minute walk from the lodge.Over the road there is a small playground for children. The lodge is fronted by grass to the lakeside. Our beloved 10 year old Spaniel thoroughly enjoys his time at the lake and we hope that if you are pet owners, your dog will enjoy the area as well! We've recently had underfloor heating installed in the hallway meaning dogs can dry off in luxury after their walks! We welcome guests to bring one well behaved dog at no additional cost. Please contact us if you would like to bring more than one dog with you on your stay. *Getting around* Whilst only a 10 minute drive form Kemble station (90 minutes to Paddington) we would recommend having access to a car for your visit to One Spring.
