The SpaceThe space we are offering is a large, well proportioned bedroom with room enough for a double bed, large chest of drawers, a cupboard with plenty of hanging space and two comfortable Parker Knoll armchairs. There are two large windows (curtained to the floor), one of which looks up the garden into the paddock, the other looking onto the front garden. The room has its own door to the garden and a large private parking space. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the kitchen, which adjoins the bedroom. Leading off from the kitchen is a utility room and your private small bathroom with sink and toilet. Guests will also have access to the main bathroom upstairs which has a power shower, bath and toilet. The stairs are fairly steep but flanked by walls and a bannister rail. Feel free to relax on the patio and wander around the garden, paddock and pond areas. Interaction with GuestsWe are sociable folk and would welcome interaction with our guests. Having brought up three children in a busy household we miss the daily comings and goings. Although we are both working we feel we could offer a comfortable, relaxing experience. We enjoy travel ourselves and speak French. We love meeting people and enjoy good conversation. We are happy to leave you on your own or chat as much as you wish! A self-serve breakfast is provided of cereals, toast and eggs from our chickens. Evening meals can be arranged if required for £10 per head. The NeighborhoodQuiet apart from the occasional passing of slow moving farm machinery. We are sociable folk and would welcome interaction with our guests. Having brought up three children in a busy household we miss the daily comings and goings. Although we are both working we feel we could offer a comfortable, relaxing experience. Our neighbourhood is rural. Although we live in a farm house we are not a working farm, however we are surrounded by farms - arable in the main although we do have many horses in the area. A short walk away is a well used equestrian eventing centre - busy most weekends. There are lovely walks from the house. The village is half a mile away and offers two pubs, both serving food and a local shop. We have seven chickens here at California so fresh eggs are always available. We also have a much loved dog called Bertie, ( dachshund/maltese cross) and two elderly cats called Tilly and Toulouse. Getting AroundWe can lend you a bike, for a 15 min ride into Ely, alternatively a taxi to Ely is about £7.50, possibly more at night. We would advise that this property is a perfect fit if you have your own transport. Public transport is limited from the village, although there are occasional buses. Although we are only three miles from Ely it really is too far to walk. We have bicycles available for those who don't have a car. Once in Ely, guests would be able to travel from Ely train station which offers twice hourly trains to Cambridge (fifteen minutes), London (one hour journey), a direct service to Stansted airport and trains to Birmingham and beyond. Ely has grown greatly recently due to its fabulous connections to London and Birmingham making it an attractive prospect to commuters. The SpaceThis is usually our guest room but still has our son's books and CDs from before he left home. It is a lovely sunny room on the corner of the first floor. Plenty of reading material to borrow, including opera scores! Guest AccessBathroom and kitchen. Bathroom is shared with other guests. We have yet to encounter a problem with this arrangement. Kitchen is available for quick microwave cooking but the kitchen is very small so more elaborate cooking can be tricky. The garden is accessible at most times. Feel free to sit outside or spend some time chatting to our chickens. The dogs would love to play with you out there! Parking is on the street, directly in front of the house or round the corner in a quiet cul-de-sac. Interaction with GuestsWe will see each other at breakfast and in the house! We are a busy family and love having guests with us, as we would have our own friends to stay. You will be part of the family and expect to trip up over dogs, cats and laundry! We are categorically not a commercial B&B, rather a home which enjoys meeting new friends. However, our children are all grown up and come and go only every now and then. Depending on the time of year it is usually fairly quiet and relaxed here. The NeighborhoodVery friendly, mixed ages. There is a very good village pub, fish and chip/Chinese takeaway and an excellent general store and post office. Getting AroundDriving is easiest if you have a car, otherwise the Cambridge to Chatteris bus provides a regular service (bus number 9) on weekdays. Ely station is only 4 miles away and there are plenty of taxis available. Other Things to NoteWe are more than happy to accommodate families: we can put up a travel cot and also an extra mattress for older children. Bathroom is shared with other guests; we haven't encountered a problem with this yet! Guest AccessThe garden is always available for you to sit in or walk round. You are welcome to use the old playroom to watch tv or chill out (-provided it is not overrun by our adult children!). You are also welcome to heat up food in the microwave and do quick cooking - our kitchen is very small! We will see each other at breakfast and in the house! We are a busy family and love having guests with us, just as we enjoy having our own friends to stay. You will be part of the family and expect to trip up over dogs, cats and laundry! We are categorically not a commercial B&B, rather a home which enjoys welcoming new friends. However, our children are all grown up and come and go only every now and then. Depending on the time of year it is usually fairly quiet and relaxed here. Parking is on the street, directly in front of the house or round the corner in a quiet cul-de-sac. Interaction with GuestsWe are nearly always around and will usually see you at breakfast time. We thoroughly enjoy meeting new people and getting to know them a bit before they move on. And we love it when old friends come back! The NeighborhoodVery friendly, busy small village with good facilities. There is a good pub, village shop, which opens early and closes late, and a fish and chip shop/Chinese takeaway all in easy walking distance of the house. Getting AroundAlways easiest if you have a car but there is a good bus service betweenCambridge and Ely on weekdays. The buses start early in the morning, not so good after 6.00 pm. Other Things to NoteWe are more than happy to accommodate families: we can put up a travel cot and also an extra mattress for older children. You might want to have your own mobile internet access - broadband in Stretham can be unreliable. We are working on this!

Interaction with GuestsWe live in the main house adjacent to the loft and are happy to offer recommendations and local knowledge whenever it may be useful. However, we also understand that there are times you may just want to enjoy the solitude of the countryside. The NeighborhoodCoveney is a peaceful farming village surrounded by countryside and away from the buzz of busy roads. However, it also enjoys the close proximity of picturesque Ely, just 5 miles away, and Cambridge, 25 miles away, both bursting with historic architecture and lovely restaurants and pubs. Getting AroundCoveney is off the beaten track and consequently does not have public transport links. It can be reached easily by car or by bike however. The nearest train station is 5 miles away in Ely and we may be able to offer transport to and from the station on request.

The SpaceThis is no ordinary overnight stay. Narrowboat Puzzle has been finished to the highest standards by craftsmen who are amongst Britain's best boat-builders. Puzzle is perhaps not only one of the best narrowboats on Britain's inland waterways, she is arguably moored in one of most desirable locations there is, on the waterfront in the heart of the Cathedral City of Ely. Central London can be reached in just over 1 hour by train and Cambridge is a 20 minutes train journey or 30 minutes by car. Everything on board has been designed for ease of use and the only difference between Puzzle and a bespoke room in a good hotel or boutique B&B is the location and setting. Puzzle has full central heating so no matter how cold it is outside, you are assured that inside is always cosy and warm. In summer, just open the hatches and door and let the gentle breeze flow through the boat. Relax on the foredeck perhaps with a glass of wine or a chilled beer from our natural water-cooled beer and wine chiller or the fridge. We are located next to some excellent pubs and bars too. If you prefer cook for yourself, Ely has a superb range of shops and supermarkets, all of which are only a short walk from Puzzle. We have Freeview TV with many channels and you can listen to your favourite music anywhere on board Puzzle through our Bose Soundlink Mini II speaker. Guest AccessYou can use the entire space - it was built for you to enjoy. However, Puzzle is permanently moored so cannot be sailed. Puzzle is situated in a working boat yard where you may see boats being made! This is very much part of the experience and the boat builders very much enjoy talking about what they do. Access to Puzzle requires you to go down a few small steps and sometimes and along a pontoon and/or other boats. This is usually the case with any boat stay. You will always have fixed access to the shore so you will not need to travel by boat to reach Puzzle - The reward for all of this is the amazing riverside views - undoubtably the best in Ely! It's all very easy but if you have mobility difficulties, please do contact us before booking. Interaction with GuestsWe live locally and if there's anything you need or are unsure about, we are just a phone call and a few minutes away. The NeighborhoodPuzzle is moored on the riverside in the historic city of Ely which is approximately 17 miles to the north of Cambridge. Visitors come for many reasons and you will find: Ely Cathedral with its origins in AD 672 Oliver Cromwell's House (kitchen dating back to AD 1215) Topping & Company Booksellers - one of the top bookshops in Great Britain Peakcocks Tearoom - named the Tea Guild's Top Tea Place 2007 Drayman's Son Micro Pub - an amazing selection of ales. Wicken Fen - Nature walks & huge sky The Boat Yard Ely - looking for your own bespoke boat then why not speak to Garf and Tristan who built Puzzle to develop your own ideas!! King's School Ely is also located nearby and Puzzle is a wonderful base for visitors to the school. Getting AroundPuzzle is located just a few minutes walk from Ely railway station. Technically, you get from the hustle and bustle of central London to the peace and tranquility of the riverside in Ely in just over 1 hour. We also have direct train services to London Stansted Airport, Birmingham International & New Street, Manchester, Peterborough - access could not be easier and if you are coming by car then parking can be arranged free of charge. If you are flying in from Heathrow then you can travel very easily by train or taxi. We can provide you with as much travel advise and information as you need, whichever direction you are coming from Other Things to NoteAs I have stated above, access to Puzzle is very good but if you have any mobility difficulties, please ask so that we can advise and help if possible. Internet access is via wifi which uses the mobile phone signal network (3G). Signal can come and go but on the whole works fine. Don't expect continuous connectivity or superfast download speeds anywhere in Ely. The nearby pubs and cafes do have wifi should you need to get a better connection.
