The SpaceThis holiday cottage began its life as a family home and we still think of it in this way. We feel that part of its charm lies in the fact that it isn’t like other holiday cottages, instead the character of our extended family is firmly stamped upon it. We want you to feel as comfortable there as we always have. Dogs and children are not only welcome but positively encouraged! You are welcome to use our free WIFI internet access. The cottage can sleep up to eight in the following beds: 1 double, 2 singles (that can be ziplocked together), 1 double sofabed and 2 child-size bunk beds. Duvets, blankets and pillows are provided, but we ask you bring your own sheets, duvet-covers and towels. Ground Floor Downstairs Bedroom: This is a small and cosy room, with a two single ziplock beds that can be kept as twin beds or zipped into a double as you prefer. Dining Room: This has always been where we tend to spend our evenings eating, drinking, talking and playing cards, Monopoly or Scrabble. There is a large dining table which comfortably seats 8 people. There is also an open fire, often providing the evening’s entertainment, and two comfy, often-fought-over armchairs. Toy Room: Leading off the Dining Room is the toy room. This is a small room, packed with cards and boardgames for the grown-ups and a variety of toys and games for the children. Kitchen: Through the Dining Room is the Kitchen. We hope you will find everything you need here to cook up a storm. There is an electric hob and oven, a dishwasher, washing machine, kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge freezer and all the pots, pans, crockery and cutlery you will need. First Floor Master Bedroom: The principle bedroom has a comfortable double-bed, storage facilities and stunning views out over the garden and the surrounding countryside. Bunk Bedroom: The children’s room has a set of child-size bunk beds (although adults have been known to sleep comfortably in these when necessary.) The Through Room: This is an upstairs living room with a large sofa that opens out into a double bed, a couple of chairs and a TV. Please be aware that you have to walk through this room to get to the bathroom, so not suitable for those seeking privacy, or preferring an early bedtime! Bathroom: This is a spacious room, complete with toilet, sink, bath/shower and electric-heated towel rail. Outside There is an outside toilet, and two outhouses. One contains coal and wood for the fire, which we ask you to replenish after use. The second some children’s outdoor toys. You are welcome to use these, but you do so at your own risk. You will also find crabbing equipment, buckets and spades and some outdoor game facilities. Guest AccessThe entire house, garden, and parking spaces. Interaction with GuestsWe do not live in Norfolk. Before your trip we will post you a set of keys, together with directions and some more information. We'll need your address. This makes the School House unsuitable for last minute bookings. The cottage has a website: littlesnoringschool(URL HIDDEN) The NeighborhoodThe School House is the perfect base for exploring the North Norfolk countryside with its many attractions for children, dog-walkers, bird-watchers and nature lovers. The following are some of our favourites. You can find more information here: (URL HIDDEN) The Village Little Snoring village has a ‘round tower’ Church and, on the main road, a small shop where you can buy newspapers and basic groceries. There is also a village pub – The Green Man. The Coast The coast (at Wells-next-the-Sea) is eight miles away. Wells is a thriving seaside town with a busy harbour quay (try crabbing there, then fish and chips from French’s eaten on the quayside wall – a must) and two good pubs on the Green (The Crown and The Globe). A mile down the dyke is a sandy beach, lined with a medley of beach-huts. In season, you can collect samphire here, to cook and enjoy at home. From Wells there is easy walking – westwards through pinewoods and beach along the Norfolk Coast Path to Holkham (2 miles) and Burnham Overy Staithe (2 miles). Eastwards is Stiffkey with safe creeks for paddling (3 miles – and a good pub with local ales and food – the Red Lion), then Morston (3 miles – take a boat trip to Blakeney Point with its seals) and Blakeney, Cley, and Salthouse with hosts of wading birds. Market Towns Fakenham is close by, with supermarkets and local greengrocers, fishmongers, butchers and bakers. It has a Thursday Market and Auction, a monthly Farmers’ Market, an excellent fish and chip shop (Drifters), a 10-pin bowling alley, and a mini multiplex cinema (for an occasional wet day!). Close to Fakenham is Holt, a largely unspoilt up-market country town and also Burnham Market (with antique shops, boutiques and good restaurants such as The Hoste Arms). The Local Area The fairground organs at the Thursford Collection are worth a visit, as is Pensthorpe Wildlife Park. The White Horse at East Barsham has decent food. Holkham with pinewoods and a wide, flat beach that always seems empty despite its packed car park. Holkham Hall has lake and deer park to enjoy. There are towering dunes at the end of the creek-side walk from Burnham Overy Staithe, or ducks to feed at Salthouse – try the Dun Cow for a good country lunch or sample shellfish at Cookies Crab Shop. Cley boasts a windmill, a fine delicatessen (Picnic Fayre), a fish shop & smokehouse, and a shingle beach with a 4 mile walk out to Blakeney Point. Walsingham has shrines, a safe ford, a farm shop, good restaurant and fish & chips – all estate-run. A light railway goes to Wells; a full-sized one runs on the Poppy Line from Holt to Sheringham. Finally, Cromer has seaside delights – a Theatre Pier with summer shows – and Hunstanton boasts an indoor swimming complex, donkey or pony rides and trampolines on the beach, as well as boat trips, candy-floss and stunning sunsets. Getting AroundYou really need to have your own transport here as it is quite remote. Other Things to NoteThere is no central heating. There are two open fires, storage heaters upstairs and electric heaters in each room.
