The SpaceWelcome to Lantern Lodge, Hope Cove, Kingsbridge. The Lantern Lodge is a small privately run B&B situated on the cliff top right next to the South Devon Coastal path and overlooking the secluded fishing village of Hope Cove with its Devon thatch cottages, clean, sandy and safe beaches. Nearby are the old traditional towns of Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Dartmouth all offering their own individual character and all offering that little extra to make your stay in the South Hams that extra special and unique. Also close by are Thurlestone, Bigbury and Dartmouth golf courses all with stunning views of the area and fantastic and challenging courses. The Lantern Lodge has its own special extras to offer including an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, double, twin and four poster rooms all with en-suite facilities and some with sea views. 9 hole putting green and plenty of car parking. There is a dining room where breakfast is served. The Lantern Lodge is so named after its attractive leafily-clad 'Lantern window.' Local folklore would have us believe that this type of window was specially designed to hold and display an illuminated lantern which could be seen from all three aspects far out to sea, acting as a beacon to safely guide home all their boats. Nowadays, our Lantern window serves very much the same purpose in welcoming back our contented guests year after year.

The SpaceThis contemporary and highly original home at Ham Farm in rural South Devon offers all the modern conveniences, including a dishwasher and washer. Every item has been carefully chosen or made to compliment the architecture and to ensure a comfortable stay. Much of it designed and made by the owners or their friends. Whether you decide to sit at home and enjoy the serenity of the countryside, the views over the orchard, private garden and patio and the cosy warmth of the wood burning stove, or travel farther afield to enjoy the exquisite landscape of the South Hams from a very central location, The Piggery offers everything you need to make your stay easy, relaxing and fun. Well situated a short walk away from Loddiswell, and right in the centre of the South Hams, The Piggery offers easy access to the stunning coastline with its famous South West Coast Path, beautiful and secluded beaches, magnificent Dartmoor, and all the amenities the South Hams has to offer: Kingsbridge (10 mins.), Dartmouth (25 mins.), Salcombe (25 mins.) and Totnes (25 mins.) are all worth visiting, each offering something special. There are many charming villages close by, and the internationally recognised Dartington Estate is within 30 minutes. Loddiswell has in the past been a little overlooked but offers such a lot on many levels, we love it here! For those who like to walk, there are essentials available in the village via a short footpath and there are numerous trails, green lanes and Avon River walks that begin right at your doorstep and may be interrupted with a delicious cream tea or lunch at Avon Mill Garden Centre. Other benefits include plenty of parking for up to 3 cars, drive up access, expert local knowledge….. The bedrooms are small but perfectly formed.. the larger has a very comfortable King size bed complete with boutique Egyptian bed linen. The smaller, with its en-suite shower and loo is a narrow (4') but extra long double and can sleep two cuddly people or children who don't mind sharing. We also have a single mattress with bedding provided for a small extra charge - please ask when booking. Please let us know if you have kids as there are a couple of provisos regarding care of its furnishings .. Guest AccessThere is shared parking, but with plenty of space reserved for The Piggery. We are happy for visitors to walk across the land provided care is taken to close gates and be mindful of livestock. Every so often we press apples into juice and make cider. We have an orchard bursting with fruit, and we can point you in the direction of wonderful wild foods depending on the season. We sell our own apple juice, cider and some chutneys. The Piggery has its own private garden - not quite finished yet so please bear with us - and a beautifully sheltered Terrace dining area overlooking the valley and orchard. Interaction with GuestsWe are both artists/makers and are pretty sociable. We are Open in the Farmhouse 2 till 6pm every Thursday for visitors to see our work and are always happy to show people round and will find the time if they like what we do but would rather come on a different day. Apart from that we are always interested in meeting new people - our household centres around the dining table and kitchen and we always have coffee at the ready. . We won't intrude on your time in The Piggery though unless you invite us! The NeighborhoodThe South Hams is a gem in the UK.. beautiful with a mass of things to do both inside and out... glorious and wild coastline, with its swimming, sailing, surfing, hiking, golf or simply taking in the stunning landscape..and Dartmoor is just 20 minutes away. Inland there's much to do and see - we will provide leaflets, brochures etc. - just ask or visit Tourist Information in Kingsbridge. Totnes, Dartmouth, Salcombe and Kingsbridge are all special in their own way and once you've mastered the winding and secret Devon lanes there's beauty around every corner. Once you've been captivated you'll wish to return.. It's a good idea to search through our Guidebook here in case you wish to eat out in one of the busier places.. as we have many visitors throughout the year they will fill up all year round so it's worth booking in ad. Getting AroundLoddiswell is poorly served by public transport but Totnes Railway Station is just 25 minutes away, where you can hire a car. There are three buses a day to and from Loddiswell and Kingsbridge and there are plenty of walks from The Piggery so it is entirely possible to have a car free holiday.... We have picked up guests from the bus at Sorley - just 5 minutes away - and dropped them back for the return journey. On line shopping makes this an attractive option! Cycling is also a lovely if a little daunting way to explore - the Devon lanes are narrow with high hedges and occasionally inconsiderate motorists.. but an experienced cyclist will take great pleasure from the lanes around here and there are plenty of wonderful cycle tracks for the less experienced.. Other Things to NoteThe Piggery has been very carefully built and finished to a high standard using many specially made features, including many examples of our work. Where we can we have used natural materials, clay paints etc and have incorporated much that is reclaimed and turned into something new. It's fundamentally a handmade house. We hope you will love your time enjoying it's pleasures and as it's new we would appreciate your feedback to make it even better... If you really would like a TV we can supply one..... The Piggery is deliberately TV free as a rule!

The SpaceThe cottage is in the village of Frogmore, a typical Devon village and one which has managed to hang on to its pub, the excellent Globe Inn just one minute's walk. Walk 50 yards in the other direction to reach the excellent local post office and bakery. The village is perfectly placed to reach the best South Devon beaches in just a few minutes drive including the award winning Blackpool Sands, Beesands and the beaches around Salcombe. The cottage has a very snug sitting room with a wood burning stove, comfortable sofas and a TV. The large, well fitted kitchen has two separate seating areas for maximum flexibility. Upstairs there are 3 good-sized bedrooms (2 doubles and 1 twin) and 2 bathrooms. The master bedroom is ensuite. There's a second reception room downstairs which is a den/family room. There's also a large downstairs cloakroom with wheelchair access. Wifi has just been installed in this cottage along with electric storage heaters to supplement the wood burning stove. The cottage has it's own private terrace. This is set up some steps about 40 yards from the house and is a great place to have a drink and relax with views across Frogmore Creek. Previous guests have mentioned the Portlemouth passenger ferry where you can catch the ferry across to Salcombe without the parking nightmare that is Salcombe in high summer. However it's also worth exploring some of the wonderful hidden sandy coves (approached on foot) near Start Point. And while you're there pay a visit to the Pigs Nose, the wonderful old pub in East Prawle. The cottage is quite close to the road, which is fairly busy during the peak summer weeks. However all rooms are double glazed so traffic noise is minimal. There is private parking for 2 cars just behind the house. Guest AccessFull access to everything. Interaction with GuestsRegular email contact and on the phone if needed. Getting AroundBuses go past the cottage but a car is recommended.

The SpaceThe Studio has been recently been refurbished and with its unique shabby chic decor, its one of a kind. With an open plan living space with breakfast bar and spacious balcony overlooking the valley, its beautiful setting and secluded location make it a perfect place to retreat to. Located in a valley with a handful of other houses and a 15 minute walk from the famous, award winning Bantham Beach, many guests book repeatedly each year because of its charm and location. *August - minumum 5 days booking* The bedroom has its own balcony doors opening onto the valley and a skylight overhead for stargazing from bed. The living room has a pull out sofa bed for 2 people expanding the capacity to 4 people staying, though please note that the space is best suited for couples. The Studio is light and airy during the summer with lots of wild birds. Please note that cooking facilities are not extensive but certainly sufficient in the Studio. Have a look in the pictures so you can see what is available and know what to expect. During the winter, it is snug, cosy and warm! The Studio is perfectly situated in a sunny, lightly forested valley which is a haven for birds and other wildlife. With beautiful country walks in every direction it is the perfect location for couples looking to explore the sandy beaches, picturesque villages of Bantham and Salcombe and the beautiful South Hams coastline and countryside. Its location couldn't be more peaceful and stunning and is a true haven for relaxation! There are other holiday cottages on this property and although it's mostly quiet, there are other properties in site. I will try an upload some more photos soon so that this can be seen and understood! There are village shops and excellent pubs in Thurlestone (1.5m), Bantham (0.9m) and Churchstow (2m) and Kingsbridge (4m) offers a supermarket, banks, numerous shops, cafes, galleries, yoga studio and a regular farmers markets. Surf rentals can be found in Churchstow or on Bantham beach. Free parking for 2 cars. Please note a car is essential to get to this area! Guest Access*** PLEASE CONSULT THE HOUSE MANUAL FOR ACCESS ONCE YOU HAVE BOOKED*** I spend a lot of time travelling and don't always have access to the internet meaning that booking the Studio is sometimes an automatic process. Guests get access to the Studio is independent, meaning that once you have booked and paid for your stay YOU WILL GET INFORMATION FROM AIRBNB WEBSITE ON HOW TO GET HOLD OF THE KEYS. There will not be anyone to meet you at the property. :) Interaction with GuestsI rent the property remotely and have a caretaker that looks after the Studio. The Studio is prepared for guests ahead of time and let themselves in with keys left at a designated location at the Studio. (More information once a booking is made.) Although I am available over the phone and internet, to help, I do not meet with guests. The caretaker does live locally, if there are any emergencies. Getting AroundPlease note that a car is almost essential for this location unless you want to take taxis everywhere. Located in quite a rural area, down a long country lane, there is only public transport from the main roads. The area is best enjoyed with a set of wheels so you can explore the full extent of the stunning South Hams. Other Things to NoteDuring the months of July and August things get very busy, so I will only be able to accept bookings that are 5 days or longer. Thanks! There is a lovely cat that lives on the property called ' Ms Freida Miaow'. She is very friendly but a bit wild so she will bring back rabbits and mice to feed on... you've been warned! There is plenty of heating and the Studio stays very warm, even in winter. TOWELS I'm regrettably no longer able to provide towels so need to ask guests to kindly bring their own. I will be able to provide tea cloths and bath mats though. If you are looking for a simple and quiet retreat the Studio has everything you need. There are all the basics: oven, fridge, cooker, wifi, shower, etc. Please note that it doesn't have the following: there is no washing machine and because we are in a valley there is little phone reception. If you walk up the hill a short way you can get full connectivity.

The SpaceLonely Planet 2015 has rated Bantham Beach as the best beach in the UK and the 6th best beach in the whole of Europe. Perfect for relaxing family holidays. Particularly well suited for exhausted parents with children who need entertaining, fresh air and activities. The cottage is light, calming and a great base after a day at the beach. On your doorstep are stunning rural walks, great eateries; Bantham beach, the sea air, surfing and all manner of other outdoor pursuits. The Sloop Inn is about 0.4 miles away and we often stroll down for an evening meal with the children. It's very family friendly. There's a famous golf course at Thurlestone which is only a mile or so away and wonderful old english pubs are dotted around the neighbouring villages. In the outbuilding we leave a collection of battered bicycles and old wetsuits which you are welcome to use. We also have a log-store which is well-stocked, and you can help yourself for the evening fire. We always leave a variety of books, board games and DVDs for any rainy day. Guest AccessBeach, seaside, surfing, country walks, cycling, pubs, local village shop (great coffee and croissants), gastrobus at Bantham (wonderful hot & cold food to eat at the beach). Further afield there's Kingsbridge for shopping (about 4 miles) and Salcombe (about 6 miles). A ferry runs between Kingsbridge and Salcombe which makes for a great day out. In the cottage, there are 4 bedrooms. Two doubles (both with Kingsize beds); one twin and one single. There are two bathrooms, a lawn to play on and a large courtyard for parking. The courtyard is private and not shared. Interaction with GuestsAlways happy to help. Best is by phone or email and will respond immediately on receiving any message. The NeighborhoodIt's an incredibly friendly community. You'll find it so welcoming. The local pub know just about everything that's worth knowing. The local marina at Bantham often hosts fun get togethers but the thing I most love is the sense of peace, tranquility and laughter that this stunning area of South Hams seems to generate. Getting AroundThe nearest train station is at Ivybridge (about 13 miles away) with faster and more frequent services running from Totnes (about 16 miles away). There are fast, direct services from London to Plymouth (about 17 miles away). In reality though, it's much more practical to have a car. Other Things to NoteThe entrance to the courtyard is quite narrow (see photo 16). All saloons, convertibles, estate cars and most 4x4s will be absolutely fine. Those with very large 4x4s or massive people carriers will find entering and exiting the courtyard quite challenging though, so better in an estate car.

The SpaceAt Rose Cottage, luxury beckons everywhere you look: contemporary oak furniture, heated slate floors, a comfy leather sofa and original art on every wall. The spacious bedroom has a kingsize bed with crisp, 400-count cottons, a large basin and dresser, and a positively decadent marble-tiled ensuite bathroom with power shower. The living area is cleverly designed to make use of every bit of space, and incorporates a fully-equipped kitchen, a wood burner for colder evenings, and HD TV with DVD and satellite. Three sets of French doors ensure the cottage is filled with light whatever the weather, and give direct access from both rooms to the cottage's private garden: a flagged and graveled patio area with outdoor dining facilities and barbecue, a terrace planted with mature trees, shrubs and ground cover, and a well stocked herb garden for guests’ use. A gate at the end of the garden opens onto our own pasture, with views to fishing village of Beesands a mile away, where an excellent pub and an award-winning fish restaurant will delight even the most jaded of appetites. Wake to the sound of the cock crowing. Collect your own eggs for breakfast, and try some home-cured bacon from our free-range black pigs. Fill your time lounging in the garden, collecting shells on the beach, swimming in the sea, surfing, cycling, horseriding, or just pottering about the quiet country lanes between the cottage and the coast. At the end of another busy day, as the evening draws in and dusk descends on the farmyard, sit back with a glass of something or other and listen to the sounds of the countryside putting itself to bed – the pheasants calling as they fly home to their roosts, or the first hoot of our resident tawny owls. In a few hours the stars will be out and, untrammelled by city light pollution, set to put on a magnificent display. Guest AccessGuests have a private garden and free access to the orchard with its giant trampoline. They are welcome to explore the farm and visit the animals in their homes: we keep horses, Shetland sheep, chickens, ducks and rare breed pigs, with very cute piglets! Interaction with GuestsWe are usually to be found working around the farm and are happy to help with issues relating to the accommodation, suggestions for places of interest to visit, country walks, and other local information. The NeighborhoodThe South Hams, Devon's own riviera, boasts some of the most unspoilt coastline on the English coast: its sweeping bays and secluded coves, including the promontories of Start Point and Bolt Head, along with the lower Avon and Dart valleys, form the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Many miles of safe, award-winning beaches offer swimming, rockpooling, and sunbathing opportunities, while watersports - particularly surfing, windsurfing, sailing, waterskiing and parasailing - are popular and widely available. There are facilities for golf, sailing, horseriding, tennis, and river- and sea fishing all within 30 minutes' drive of the property. Walkers and their dogs will appreciate the attractions of miles of quiet lanes, footpaths, bridleways, and the renowned South Devon Coast Path, while stargazers will glory in the complete absence of artificial light, which makes the Milky Way regularly visible with the naked eye. The area is hugely popular with birdwatchers: Start Point is on a major migration route, Slapton Ley is an overwintering spot for overseas visitors, and the rare Cirl Bunting can be spotted on the farm. South Devon is at the cutting edge of the Good Food revolution in the UK and there are superb eateries to be found in every town and village. Fish and seafood are a speciality in the many fishing villages along the coast, and there are a number of establishments where you can pick your choice from the slab or tank and have it prepared, cooked and served to your table while you wait. Other Things to NoteRose Cottage is a popular destination all year round. Weekly rates only apply to whole weeks starting and finishing on a Saturday, otherwise the daily rate applies. During major holidays and school vacation periods we give preference to renters taking the accommodation from Saturday to Saturday.

The SpaceThe Barn at Cotmore Farm is a newly built, reverse-level conversion situated in a small farm courtyard at the end of a private tree-lined drive in a sheltered south-facing valley. Luxuriously appointed throughout, with heated slate floors downstairs and solid oak boards upstairs, original contemporary art on the walls, comfortable leather sofas and a flatscreen HD TV, the Barn provides all the comforts of home in an idyllic country setting. The front door opens to an elegant hallway. On the left, a large bookcase filled with paperback and hardback fiction, reference books and local history, and an excellent selection of children's picture books, will tempt you to browse and borrow. To the right, the master bedroom with en-suite is furnished with a kingsize bed. Next door a private laundry room has washing, drying and ironing facilities. The spacious second bedroom can be configured as one superking or up to three single beds. A cot is available if required at no extra charge. A glass balustraded staircase leads to the first floor, a lovely, light-filled space, with high ceilings, exposed beams and roof lights, offering expansive, open-plan living. At one end of this 40-foot room is a fully equipped kitchen and dining area, with views to the garden and farm courtyard. At the other, two comfortable leather sofas, a widescreen satellite TV, and a high-end Scandinavian woodburner offer a congenial space to relax of an evening. Double French doors give onto a sunny private terraced garden, with outdoor dining facilities and barbecue. From the terrace, a path leads to a sheltered apple orchard and a grassy area perfect for a game of football, badminton or croquet. Horses, cats, chickens, and rare breed piglets provide feeding opportunities for animal-loving children (and adults!), while birdwatchers will delight in the abundance of visitors to our many tables and feeders. And since we're barely a mile from the South West Coast Path, walkers (and their dogs) will not want for new routes to explore. Guest AccessGuests have a private garden and free access to the orchard with its giant trampoline. They are welcome to explore the farm and visit the animals in their homes: we keep horses, Shetland sheep, chickens, ducks and rare breed pigs, with very cute piglets! Interaction with GuestsWe are usually to be found working around the farm and are happy to help with issues relating to the accommodation, suggestions for places of interest to visit, country walks, best beaches and restaurants, and other local information. Other Things to NoteThe Barn at Cotmore Farm is a popular destination all year round. Weekly rates only apply to whole weeks starting and finishing on a Saturday, otherwise the daily rate applies. During major holidays and school vacation periods we give preference to renters taking the accommodation from Saturday to Saturday.

The SpaceThis pint-sized, but surprisingly spacious old cottage is in the village of Frogmore, a pretty Devon village and one which has managed to hang on to its pub, the excellent Globe Inn, its Post Office and the locally renowned Frogmore Bakery & General Stores. The sitting room has oak floors and a wood burning stove and steps up to a modern galley kitchen with a ceramic hob, washer/dryer and microwave. Oak spiral stairs lead up to a good-sized double bedroom and a separate bathroom. The cottage has just been completely redecorated and the furniture, including the bed and mattress, is new. You can enjoy views over Frogmore from the very sunny terraced private garden a few yards up from the back of the house. There are some great walks from the door around Frogmore Creek. However the village is perfectly placed to reach Prawle Point, the most southerly point of Devon in just a few minutes. Many of Devon's best sandy beaches, such as Blackpool Sands and Slapton Sands are just a few minutes drive. Or drive to Portlemouth and get the ferry across to Salcombe or down the river to the popular South Sands Beach. Kingsbridge, with its supermarkets, shops and excellent indoor swimming pool is just 3 miles away. Wifi coming soon. In the meantime you can use the free wifi in The Globe pub next door. Incidentally one Airbnb reviewer of the cottage was lukewarm about The Globe but most people love it, including us (we've had lunch there) with 90 percent giving it a thumbs up on Tripadvisor and its food and friendly welcome are highly rated. On Tripadvisor 65 percent of people rate the pub excellent and 26 percent very good. Our favourite pub in Devon is the Pigs Nose at East Prawle which is just a few minutes drive from the cottage. The front of the house is quite close to the road but all windows are double glazed so the noise is minimal. There are electric storage heaters in addition to the wood burning stove. Guest AccessFull access to the whole cottage plus the private garden area and private parking space Interaction with GuestsAvailable pretty much all the time by phone or email but we use a keysafe system for the cottage. The NeighborhoodGreat pub and local shop, great dog walks from the door. South Devon's best beaches are within a few minutes drive. Getting AroundCar recommended but bicycles would work too. Public transport is patchy.

The SpaceOur rather quirky home was converted from a former small farmhouse, dairy and adjoining barn and offers guests a south facing double room with views of Frogmore Creek and beyond. We are conveniently situated on the main Kingsbridge to Dartmouth road, just a short walk from a good pub and village amenities. For families, or small groups of friends, we have a second, small bedroom with a single bed plus pull-out bed, so can accommodate up to 4 guests. The rooms are smallish, but are comfortable and the double is well-equipped with TV/DVD/CD player, books and selection of DVDs, tea tray, complimentary toiletries, double glazing and BT Infinity WiFi is available. Beds are comfortable with good mattresses and quality bed linen. A separate, private bathroom with shower cubicle is for exclusive use of guests. A choice of continental style, or traditional English breakfast is served in the dining room between 7.30 and 8.30 (7.30 and 9 weekends) - you will be set up for the day whichever your choice! Food is locally sourced, eggs are from our own hens, meat from 3 miles away and the bread is home baked. We are able to offer vegetarian alternatives, and also vegan food with a little notice (please advise at time of booking for vegan) There is a single night supplement, and a single person supplement, so please request the price. We charge £2 per night for dogs to cover extra cleaning. Special offers often available especially mid-week and out of season (enquire on booking) There is a level camping space for large tent (or 2 smaller ones) at the top of the paddock with glorious views, mains water and a firepit - if interested please enquire for a price. We also have a small, old caravan available to sleep in - again, please enquire. There is a secure dog exercise area and a garden with summerhouse which guests may enjoy. Cream teas sometimes available with a little notice. We like to be there to welcome our guests, and are happy to help with suggestions for sightseeing etc. We have extensive knowledge of the area and Devon on the whole. We are 'folk' musicians and enjoy playing in local pub sessions most weeks. Guests are welcome to join us for these, and of course musicians are especially welcome (open 'sessions' at the Globe Inn are held on the first Tuesday and third Thursday of each month) We have 2 dogs - both rescues. Tess is very friendly and inquisitive and loves to greet guests and other dogs! Molly, however is shy and nervous and will bark, so we usually keep her in a safe place when guests are around. Packed lunches can be provided and evening meals or snacks if required and some notice given. Guests may enjoy use of the garden and summerhouse. There is a secure hillside paddock for exercising dogs ( and children!) Frogmore is a lovely village with a great pub - The Globe Inn - serving good pub food ( a short walk away), the bakery for excellent breads and pasties, walks along quiet lanes and of course Frogmore Creek. There are lots of great places to visit and things to do within 30 minutes drive - beaches, cliff walks, Dartmouth town, Burgh Island, Bantham beach, fish and chips on the beach at Beesands, paddle boarding and other water sports, golf courses, children's adventure parks and of course wild and beautiful Dartmoor. Kingsbridge itself is a lively market town with museum, pubs and excellent eating places, a cinema, quality shops, markets and a sports centre. There is usually live music to be found somewhere in the area. There is a regular bus service to and from Kingsbridge. Nearest train station is Totnes approx 16 miles distance THINGS TO NOTE We offer bed and breakfast only and do expect that guests will be out for the best part of the day during their stay - we don't currently have a guests' lounge /recreation room. The house and garden are on lots of levels, so there are steps! We have a fairly difficult steep and narrow drive to the parking and turning area - fine for 4x4's but not for the fainthearted driver, very low cars, sports cars or camper vans ! Unless you are confident to drive up, please park in the village - there are several places where the road is wide enough to safely park and we are happy to collect your luggage for you, or you can drop it off first. Please bear in mind we have dogs who may greet guests noisily. Guest AccessGuests have access to their bedroom, bathroom and the dining room. We are happy for guests to use the garden and summerhouse area or the paddock for relaxation in the evening, or for children or dogs to play (must be under adult supervision to prevent accident) We don't allow access to the kitchen and other, private areas of the house. Interaction with GuestsWe enjoy interacting with guests. Nigel particularly enjoys sharing his wealth of knowledge of the area. The NeighborhoodFrogmore is a traditional Devon village set at the head of Frogmore Creek, on the main road from Kingsbridge to Dartmouth, and benefits from a pub and a village shop. Frogmore is easily accessible and is a good base for exploring this very southerly part of Devon. Getting AroundBest by car, but there is an hourly bus service to Kingsbridge / Dartmouth. Nearest train station is Totnes. We can give you details of local taxi operators. Other Things to NoteBoard games, cards etc available for guests - please ask. Washing can be arranged £2 per load. Camping available - a level area at the top of the paddock with great views and a tap!

The NeighborhoodIt is in an unbeatable location: Peaceful and quiet, near pretty thatched villages and 10 minutes drive from the picturesque market town of Kingsbridge. It overlooks Bantham and Bigbury sandy beaches, with a direct view of Burgh Island. Sometimes you can see what is reputed to be the world's only working sea tractor transporting people from Bigbury to the island. The Art Deco hotel on Burgh Island is often featured on travel programmes. Noel Coward and Agatha Christie have both stayed at the hotel, and one of Christie's Hercule Poirot movies was filmed there. Getting AroundHeron's Lodge is less than a mile to the family-owned sandy beach at Bantham, with its dunes and river mouth. It is possible to walk to the beach in under twenty minutes, or to drive there within a couple of minutes. The nearest airport is Exeter, about an hour's drive away. Totnes railway station can take as little as half an hour in the car. Buses operate from Totnes railway station to Kingsbridge and a taxi would then be needed for the 10 min drive to the Lodge. Prebooked car hire is available from the railway station. Guests are recommended to bring a car, for maximum enjoyment of the area. Kingsbridge benefits from two large supermarkets, Tesco and Morrisons, and a wide range of local shops. There is a Farmer's Market twice a month. It has a good selection of places to eat. The SpaceThis is a wonderful place, a quintessential Devon farmhouse set in glorious countryside. Minutes from one of the best surfing beaches and great walks from the doorstep. Comfortable rooms, delicious food and parking in our yard, off the road. Secluded walled garden to relax in, this is the real Devon! We offer three rooms different rooms, all separately listed as they all have different calendars.. This particular listing is for a double room, with a comfortable king size bed.- all our rooms come with a cooked breakfast and towels. We don't have any en suite bathrooms but there is a choice of two bathrooms. Please note if you want a slightly larger double or wish to add an extra mattress, then please go to our Room 2 listing. For a small single, then go to our Room 3 listing.. Although close to the sea, there are no sea views although you can hear it, at night when the sea is rough. After a long journey, you may prefer to relax here with a home cooked meal and bottle of wine without having to get back in the car and seek out a place to eat. Please mention this when you make your reservation so I can organise this for you - I am versatile so can cater according to your preference. Perhaps something traditional like Shepherd's pie, anything vegetarian - or seafood linguine, we have a custom made barbecue for authentic Jamaican jerk chicken?. I use really fresh, local or my own home grown ingredients. Our lovely home is very relaxing, the kitchen (where you can help yourself to tea or coffee) is the hub and as cooking is a passion of mine; the food will be excellent. We serve locally smoked bacon and ham; my eggs benedict are rather special. There are great places to walk to straight from the house, it's a bit of trek down the valley to the river but magical and well worth it - and has been a highlight with some guests, our gorgeous dog loves to tag along too (check out our reviews). Bantham beach is a family friendly beach with loads of parking, life guards and a Gastrobus serving really good grub, coffee etc. A surfers' paradise, where you can have a try yourself with the 'Learntosea' team who can supply all the gear you need. It's a big beach with soft sand and you can amuse yourself endlessly, scrabbling over rocks, discovering pools and coves or walking over the ham. The village has a good pub, a village shop with a café and picturesque terrace - lots of choice. That is just what's on offer at Bantham, there are many more equally special beaches and beauty spots. Whatever the weather there is always lots to do. There are interesting market towns very close by like Kingsbridge, Modbury and Totnes with independent shops, markets, cafes and restaurants a-plenty. Woodlands and The River Dart Country Park are great places for kids to go wild and have fun as well as golf courses, ferry rides, fishing trips, museums and galleries, National Trust Houses....I know the area really well and will be able to give you loads of advice on where to go and how to get there. What else? I have already mentioned the lovely dog, there is also a bone idle cat and a 13 year old boy. All are friendly, laid back and none known to bite. We all look forward to welcoming you...
