The SpaceA former artist's studio, the apartment is a modern airy space within a wild, woodland setting. It has been newly decorated throughout and has a particularly spacious bathroom with a large comfortable bath and views out to the woods to the south and a wild flower bank and natural spring to the west. It is perfectly located for some truly wonderful walks: the East Devon Way adjoins the property and there are several beautiful routes through the countryside to Lyme Regis, including the River Way along the River Lyme into the centre of town. It's about an hour's walk to the Cobb or to the Town Mill cluster of shops, restaurants and galleries or 10 minutes' drive. You can have a great day on the beach or walking and then come home to the seclusion of the woods and meadows. We have some of the best bird and wildlife around. You will hear owls calling in the evenings and maybe spot a badger snuffling about in the garden. We are in the process of restoring the wild meadows and have a mass of wild orchids, bluebells, foxgloves and native daffodils, depending on the time of year. There are views of Lyme Bay and the island of Portland from the top meadow where a bench is provided for your use. The room is designed mainly for 2 people but we do have a z-bed (fold-out bed) to accommodate an extra person. The main bed is a king-size with a slatted base and a soft reflex foam mattress. The bedlinen is 100% Egyptian cotton. We now have a new TV for the room and a music system with a cable to plug in your phone/ipod. Guest AccessGuests have their own entrance to the side of the main house. We now have two studios which both use this entrance but each has its own area of the courtyard garden with table and chairs. There is access to the top meadow to enjoy views of the sea and you are welcome to wander from there through the gate in the deer fence (defunct!) into another meadow where there are masses of snowdrops in early spring and hundreds of wild orchids in early summer. We have plans to add some rustic seating (logs!) but until then, you can take a picnic rug or a coat and enjoy being totally surrounded by nature. There is a sauna with en-suite shower room and chill-out area in a separate part of the house which can be booked for £10 for a 2 hour slot. Just let us know when you would like it and we will turn it on. Interaction with GuestsWe live full-time in the main house and often work from home in the latter part of the week. There is usually someone around if needed or if not, we can be contacted by text or mobile. However, we anticipate that guests will want their privacy and the apartment has been designed with this in mind. At certain times of the day some sound from the family may travel into the apartment but at night it is extremely quiet. We quote normal check in after 4pm but if you are most welcome to email us if you want to come earlier, so we can accommodate you. The NeighborhoodThis is a fantastic setting for a holiday with the gorgeous and wild beaches of East Devon and West Dorset on the doorstep, the outstanding Jurassic Coast with its National Trust walks, fossil hunting, fishing, sailing and kayaking opportunities, and a huge network of footpaths and bridleways immediately accessible from the house. It is also foodie heaven. River Cottage HQ at Park Farm is just the other side of the woods and can be reached by road or on foot. It's about 30/40 mins walk up the lane and through the woods. The more informal River Cottage Canteen is just 2 miles away in Axminster. In Lyme Regis (also 2 miles) is Mark Hix's Oyster House with knock-out views across the bay to Portland and also the Harbour Inn right on the front which does fantastic fish and has a seating area on the beach. There are lots of lovely bakeries and coffee spots, a cinema, theatre and many quirky independent shops. Lyme Regis, Axminster, Bridport and Seaton are all great little towns with their own characters. Getting AroundThis area is very hilly, so only keen cyclists take to the road. There is an hourly bus that travels from Axminster (train connections from London, Exeter (and Bristol via Exeter) through past our road, and on down to Lyme Regis. (runs 6am to 9pm) The bus continues on connecting Lyme Regis with Charmouth (fossils, great beach, and the national trust coast walks) and on to Bridport. To be honest most people use a car to get about. You can walk to Lyme Regis - it's a stunning walk through woodlands, past views of the viaduct and down into Uplyme, were it follows the stream into Lyme past the Mill. It's Chris's favourite walk: all downhill to Lyme, then to his favourite (and award-winning) coffee shop - 'Amid Giants and Idols' on Silver Street, for an extremely good espresso, and catch the bus back afterwards. Other Things to NoteWe are committed to supporting the natural environment of this very special place so use eco-cleaning products, and avoid excessive chemicals. New for 2015: handmade organic soap and hand lotion made in Dorset by Enchanted Plants is provided for your use. We think this is so beautiful that we are considering stocking some for guests to purchase - so we'd love your feedback on this. A clothes drying rack, an iron and ironing board can be provided on request. There is a hairdryer in the bedroom.

Watch the wild cheeky rabbits up close on the lawn, wake up to bird song, see the soaring buzzards, watch out for the deer hiding in the wood and listen to the hooting owls at night. The upstairs attic room (6m x 6m, with limited head height) provides a fabulous space for children to sleep, play and relax. Plenty of outdoor space for children too. Lots of parking and also secure storage for cycles. Min 2 nights off peak. At other times this varies, see specific dates for details. A great space for couples or for 2 adults and 2 children. As the steps to the upstairs bedroom are steep, the lodge is only suitable for children over 5 years. Extra adults beware! The headroom in the upstairs bedroom is limited. A very quiet area, beautiful and unspoilt. A short walk to a great pub, The Hunters Lodge and only a 40 minute walk, following the stream downhill through Harcombe Bottom to the sea at Lyme Regis (you can always get the bus back up the hill!). The lodge is well insulated and there are electric radiators for those chilly times. Guest AccessThe lodge is accessed from the parking space by a fairly steep path and this may not be suitable for everyone - please see the photo. Consider this as a real 'get-away from it all' experience! Make use of our games, books and DVDs and use the information pack for ideas on what to do, whatever the weather. We do have WiFi but the service is limited! Normally access to emails is no problem but anything else is a bonus. Mobile phone coverage is patchy throughout Lyme Regis and the surrounding area. We can only dream of 3G! Access to a washing machine by request. Interaction with GuestsWe like guests to feel welcome and as our house is also within the valley, we are on hand should you need us. We value our privacy and respect that you also need yours so you won't find us intrusive. The NeighborhoodWe love the feeling of being deep in the countryside yet still so close to the sea. Our hidden valley provides a tranquil retreat after the hustle and bustle of Lyme Regis on a busy day. Getting AroundWe are just 2.5 miles from Axminster but as we are tucked away you do need some form of transport unless you are keen walkers or cyclists. There is a bus stop within 1 mile of the property which links to the local towns and the mainline rail station to London. station (mainline Exeter to Waterloo). Collection can be arranged from the station at an extra cost. Other Things to NoteWe live nearby, within the 5 acres with our 3 children, 2 dogs and old horse. The lodge is completely separate from the house with its own parking and access and fenced area of garden. During school summer holidays the minimum booking is for 7 nights, Friday to Friday.

The SpaceA much loved and used weekend family home, set in a large garden and views of Lyme Bay. Fossil hunting on the Jurassic coast on the doorstep! In-week bookings (Mon-Thurs) preferred as we use the house most weekends. However, week or monthly bookings are available by negotiation. More...... An open plan kitchen, dining family room and living room, each with wood burning stove. Spacious rooms with comfortable sprung beds. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. One Master bedroom with stunning extra large double ended bath. One Family room with king sized bed and additional single bed, plus space for travel cot or mattress (can supply). The third room is a double with small en-suite with single shower. Quiet location with brilliant sea, sky and village views. Great for town socialising or rural walks into the fields and woods at the back of Lyme. We are a short walk from town - take your pick of cross country, lane or Mill stream walk). many are suitable for bikes and /or heels! Breakfast can be made in the kitchen or supplied in the town by the great local artisans or independent retailers. Bedding is predominately feather duvets and pillows. If you require synthetic/ hypo-allergenic bedding, this can be supplied on request - please message me. The grounds have lovely South & West facing aspects, which enjoy full sun all day. The large patio is great for BBQs and a drink, day or night. The garden is un-landscaped requiring renovation, but has a large lawn area for games. Large lawn for games and sunbathing. Guest AccessArrive after 4pm. Vacate property by 10am on the day of departure. I can accommodate alternative times, by arrangement. Guests have access to all the household facilities including lawn, parking, washing and drying facilities. Interaction with GuestsNone. The NeighborhoodQuiet residential area of large detached homes. Getting AroundBus is available to the high street, but it is only a short walk along the delightful Mill stream. Other Things to NoteCamellia House is more a home from home, than a pristine holiday rental. Internally, it is renovated to a good standard and the rooms are large and spacious, with recent wiring and gas fired central heating. The large open plan living room has only two small radiators fitted due to oven and log burner. Given the age of the property - high ceilings and large multiple aspects windows, the downstairs can feel cool, depending on your personal preferences. But don't leave the heating on as logs are available at a small charge of £15 per night (honesty system) At the time of writing, apart from the lawn, the large grounds are un-landscaped: some rubble is on site, one old concrete and one unpaved drive. This is being addressed. The internals are not snag free. Access is unsuitable for guests with mobility problems due to steps to the main entrance of the house. Definitely unsuitable for wheelchairs - sorry. The décor is family friendly so please don't expect spotless or refined, but I trust you will be very comfortable. I share all of this information so that you come to stay knowing what to expect - its a wonderful location and house. Hopefully with all this balanced, you will be able to provide good reviews and feedback for my continuous improvement of this wonderful place.

Nicknamed "The Pearl of Dorset" it was a major port in the 13th century. Lyme Regis is well-known for "The Cobb" a harbour wall full of character and history. It features in Jane Austen's novel Persuasion (1818) and in the film The French Lieutenant's Woman by local writer John Fowles. The town is famous for the fossils found in the cliffs and beaches. Many of the earliest discoveries of dinosaur and other prehistoric reptile remains were made in the area surrounding Lyme Regis by Mary Anning (1799–1847). Finds include Ichthyosaur, Plesiosaur, Dimorphodon, Scelidosaurus and Dapedium. The town now holds an annual Fossil Festival and Mary Anning Day.

The Byre is in the grounds of Bulmoor Farmhouse, which dates from 1797 and is listed by English Heritage as a building of “Special Architectural and Historical Importance”.   The present owners, using traditional skills and materials, have painstakingly restored both buildings, and the ancient cider apple orchard.   In the Byre, the generous dimensions of the former milking parlour, cowshed, large stable doors, hopper windows and high vaulted ceilings have all been retained, creating the quirky spaciousness that is the dominant feature of the accommodation. Its attractions are year round, but at their very best in April to May when the woods and hedgerows are awash with wild flowers and the orchards are in full bloom  - The perfect hideaway for a coast and country holiday, 4-star rated by Visit England. PLEASE NOTE The second bedroom is an en-suite twin in an adjoining wing (It has its own front door so may not be suitable for children under about 8 years old unless accompanied by an older child or adult) SPECIAL OFFER FOR JUNE: Two weeks for the price of one!!!!!! Many Bulmoor Farmhouse guests are happy to simply use The Byre as a country retreat, enjoying the relaxing ambience of the accommodation itself, and the tranquillity of its natural surroundings. But this is not to say that the local area does not have a wide enough variety of other options: The coast is undoubtedly the major attraction, especially for children. The continually changing geology that led to its status as a World Heritage Site, from the spectacular red sandstone cliffs of the west, to the white chalk of the middle section and the fossil-bearing blue lais just beyond Lyme, has also produce a whole range of different beach types, which include the massive, 20km long, shingle bank that is Chesil Beach at its eastern extremity. The most popular sandy beaches are to be found at Lyme Regis and Sidmouth, where the rocky outcrops can also provide hours of rock-pooling fun, along with fossil hunting in the case of Lyme. Opportunities for water-based activities are plentiful. The Cobb at Lyme and Beer beach are the main centres, where sea-fishing trips can be booked and all types of boat hire are available. If you believe that England has no jungles, you may wish to experience the Undercliff, a 4-hour coastal trek between Lyme and Seaton, where a long history of hugely over-grown landslips have left nature virtually untouched by man since the beginning of time. Inland is a nature lover's paradise, not surprisingly given its designation as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The labyrinths of county lanes that connect the sleepy villages of thatched cottages, with their traditional pubs, are perfect for casual strolls. They are also the reason why bicycles mounted on our visitors' cars are a common sight at The Byre. For more serious walkers, it is also of interest to know that Bulmoor Farmhouse is directly on the East Devon Way, a long route through this breathtaking scenery, from Lyme Regis to Exmouth 50km away. The area offers a wide range of small, reasonably priced, leisure developments that are particularly suitable for families. Brief descriptions of some examples are given in the following paragraphs. Details can be found on their own websites: (1) The Donkey Sanctuary, at Salcombe Regis; a charity that rescues mistreated donkeys worldwide. Entrance is free of charge. (2) Pecorama, near Beer; a leisure park based on the theme of model railways where you could easily spend most of a day. (3) Axe Valley Wildlife Park, Axminster; excellent value, family run business with many different native and exotic animals, including chipmunks and meerkats, many of which wander freely around the park. It has a cafe and large play and picnic areas. Parking is free. (4) The Seaton Tramway; trips through the picturesque wildlife reserve of the Axe Estuary and its wetlands to the historical village of Colyton on miniature copies of world famous trams. (5) Abbotsbury Swanery; peak visitor time is around noon for the mass feeding of some 600 swans. Most popular period is springtime, of course, when all the cygnets have just been born. Festivals and country fairs take place throughout the spring and summer. The most famous is the Sidmouth Folk Festival when, throughout the first week in August, the streets and pubs of this normally sedate resort transform into a heaving spontaneous theatre of musicians and dancers. The Beer Sailing Regatta and the very family-orientated Beautiful Days Festival at the Escot Centre are also in August. As the darker evenings arrive in late summer, each town takes its turn to put on a carnival parade of brightly lit musical floats, each with its own fancy dress theme. This late season finishes with the centuries old and nerve jangling, Burning Barrels Race through the streets of Ottery St. Mary. Pub life is thriving: Try the traditional unspoilt Fountain Head in Branscombe. Almost all of these hostelries, like the thatched Harbour Inn in Axmouth, provide bar meals. The Mason Arms speciality, in Branscombe, is the spit roast done in its large inglenook fireplace. While on the subject of eating out, it well worth bearing in mind that, in recent years, the Devon-Dorset border area around Bulmoor Farmhouse has gained a reputation as the Local Produce Capital of the Country assisted by TV campaigns for better food, such as those of the River Cottage series. It is now strongly reflected in the menus of local restaurants. Some of our favourites are: (1) Alexandra Hotel in Lyme Regis with panoramic views over the bay - Perfect for a summer evening. (2) Oyster and Fish House in Lyme Regis; trendy timber and glass built West Country outpost of the top London chef, Mark Hix, with views over the Cobb Harbour. (3) Royal Glen, Sidmouth, former childhood holiday home of Queen Victoria. (4) Coombe House Hotel, Gittisham; literally in world class, for a very special occasion. Or you may choose to do it yourselves in the Byre kitchen or barbeque by shopping at one of the local farm shops or markets that take place weekly in all the larger towns, buying your fish and shellfish directly from the boats in Lyme, or on the beach at Beer, and choosing a country wine at the Lyme Bay Winery in Whitford. So, while the area is thankfully devoid of the mass tourism developments that are typical of many English holiday destinations, you are unlikely to be short of memorable experiences to fully occupy your stay with us. The perfect hideaway for a coast and country holiday.   Country chic living in a spacious converted byre, in an exceptionally tranquil setting of country lanes, wooded hills and wildlife, yet only 15 minutes from the coast.  4-star rated by Visit England. The SpaceThe Story Studio is our new addition to the original airbnb listing, a completely renovated and newly equipped studio room with kitchen and dining area, and en-suite shower room with power shower. It is slightly smaller than the other studio, but in no way cramped. It has a king-size bed with memory foam mattress, armchair/reading area with good lighting, writing or desk area with a vintage G-plan desk which doubles as storage for clothes or personal items. We have installed a nice stereo System - (Project amp, Micromega speakers) it has a mini jack plug so connects to any phone/tablet/laptop The kitchen/dining table looks out on to a sunny courtyard garden. The decor is simple and uncluttered but with a mid-century slant. The writing area is wallpapered with the classic 50s 'Woods' design and the kitchen chairs are Tolix. The bedlinen is high quality Egyptian cotton and we have tried to ensure that everything in the kitchen is also good quality. The kitchen comprises a 2 ring induction hob and a full sized Miele oven. New for January 2017, a brand new microwave. Despite its bijou dimensions, it should be more than possible to cook whatever you want - and as we frequently host people coming on courses at River Cottage, we wanted to make sure that there would be no frustrated foodies. The fridge is small but has the great benefit of being silent. If you need more fridge and/or freezer space, we can offer to put your extra things in additional fridge and freezer we have in the main house. We have called this The Story Studio because our friend and writer, William Davidson, wrote a fantastic (and now award-winning) story while he was on a writing retreat here and has given us permission to display it in the studio. Our original listing started life as an artist's studio, so we love to celebrate the house's creative tradition and to offer a space where people can concentrate in peace if that is what they want to do. We have hosted artists and writers here who have confirmed that the studio works well in this respect. The studio has been sound-proofed and the fridge and shower pump chosen for their quietness, so hopefully the only things that might disturb you at night are the owls and perhaps the odd snuffling badger. Guest AccessYou have your own front door and use of a courtyard garden. The other studio is accessed through the courtyard too but has its own seating area. Steps lead up to what we call the top meadow where there is a seat from which you can see the sea and, on a clear day, across Lyme Bay to Portland. At night you can see the lighthouse flashing in the distance. There is a further meadow (top top meadow?) which has a carpet of snowdrops in early spring and, later, hundreds of wild orchids. We have plans to arrange some rustic seating (such as a log!) up there too, but at the time of listing, this has yet to happen. You are welcome, log or no log, to wander up there. It should not be too hard to find plenty of privacy. There is ample off road parking in front of the house. There is a sauna with en-suite shower room and chill-out area in a separate part of the house which can be booked for £10 for a 2 hour slot. Just let us know when you would like it and we will turn it on. Interaction with GuestsWe do like to welcome our guests in person and show them around. After that, we are always happy to help with information or if you need something. Often one of us is at home during the day, but there are days - at the beginning of the week usually - when we are both at work. At such times, we are available through texting at intervals. We respect our guests' wish for privacy and do not disturb you unless there is some pressing need. Having said that, it is always nice to say hello should we see you in the driveway. To be honest most people use a car to get about but we have had a guest who stayed for a month and survived in great style without a car. If you want to use a taxi, it's a good idea to book one in advance. We recommend Terry's Taxis ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) or M Cabs ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) as being reliable and good value.
