The SpaceThe whole house is available only when I am away. There are two bedrooms with double beds, internet access, landline, CH, garden.
I'm away usually at Christmas, plus some other possible dates.
When I am here I sometimes share the house- one double bedroom only.
It is an eighteenth century semi-detached sandstone cottage with a garden and patio. This is a comfortable, atmospheric and much loved house. There are two double bedrooms and two reception rooms; the kitchen and bathroom are downstairs. There is a log fire and simple uncluttered furnishings. There is a beautiful view over fields at the back of the house, although it is on the main bus route to Guildford, where there are frequent trains to London, and also to Gatwick, Heathrow, Portsmouth and Reading. There are two pubs, a general store and restaurant in the village, which is a few minutes walk away, and there are circular walks over a variety of beautiful countryside. Gas CH, wireless internet, washing machine, fridge. Please note that as this is an old cottage, tall people need to mind their heads in places!
Please check if the whole house is available or if I am in residence, in which case I can only put up one/two people in the spare bedroom. If I am not at the house: 2 double bedrooms, two reception, kitchen, bathroom (ground floor); wireless internet; anytime (national) landline calls; CH; garden. NB parking is a short distance away. There is a bus service, but it is expensive and not very reliable, so you will really need a car.
When I am away, there is a Book of the House and I am in contact by email to give full details before you arrive. If I am at the house, guests will have their own bedroom and shared bathroom and kitchen; I can cook on request (I used to own a restaurant); any shared arrangements will be by discussion with guests.
There is a general shop and post office, a cafe, two pubs and a beauty salon in the village. Buses run once or twice an hour to Guildford in the day time (single fare £3.50). The best thing here is the country walks- of great variety, and circular. There is an OS map at the cottage.
Hire cars are the most convenient for people wanting to get around the countryside; the main bus and train stations are 20 minutes away in Guildford. London is 35 minutes from there by train. There is no parking at the house; I park on the road with hazard lights when unloading, then park in the next side road on the right opposite (coming from the north), or at weekends and school holidays (only) at the car park for the Infant School (before arriving at the house coming from the north). Heathrow and Gatwick are equidistant from the house and cost approx. £55.00 by taxi.
Information about heating, log fire, cooking, bathroom, washing machine etc. are at the house. Guest AccessWhole house, when available.
There is sometimes the possibility of renting one bedroom and sharing the house with me (two persons, one bed only). Interaction with GuestsWhen I am away, I am always available by email wherever I am. However, it's probable that we won't actually meet. The NeighborhoodThis is beautiful part of England (the Surrey Hills is an Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty), yet it is also near Gatwick and Heathrow airports and London, and an hour from the sea. There are many places to visit without travelling great distances- pubs, stately houses, gardens etc. Getting AroundThe buses are expensive and not particularly reliable- supposedly every 20 minutes, the last one from Guildford is at approximately 10.30 pm. It is worth having a hire car to take advantage of this location. There are various towns and villages which can be reached by public transport if necessary however, and the pubs and shops in the village are just five minutes walk away. Other Things to NotePlease check availability as it can change at any time.
