Child and pet friendly, Furzeland Down Cottage is sited on the edge of the Walkham valley, within Dartmoor National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty and also within a UNESCO World heritage site. We sit on 20 acres which you are welcome to explore to delight in the birdsong and pure country air. Among other things you may well see deer during the day and badger at night. Enjoy privacy but not seclusion as we are only 5 minute from the ancient stannary town of Tavistock, the largest town in West Devon, with fine architecture built by the the 7th Duke of Bedford. We are also just 20 minutes from Plymouth, with the Barbican and views across the Sound being a particular draw. Just across the road from the property is the national cycle path, where you can cycle or walk as far away as North Devon in one direction and South Brittany in the other! Enjoy a complimentary cream tea on arrival (if arriving late we'll leave you a homemade cake instead), also a bottle of bubbly in the fridge. There is a 4'6" double bed in the ground floor bedroom, upstairs there are three bedrooms one containing a 5' king size bed, one with a pair of 3' singles and the mezzanine bedroom containing the curtained 3' single cabin bed. There is also a comfortable folding bed available for an 8th guest, which I can provide at no extra cost. Next to the cottage is your own private enclosed garden with garden furniture, outdoor table tennis table, swing set, football goal, netball hoop and charcoal BBQs. On a hot day take a cooling plunge in the pool before setting off to explore the area and there is so much to see and do. We can certainly help you with an itinerary if you wish, throughout the summer there are various rural shows, food festivals, outdoor music events and theatre experiences to enjoy. Through the colder months there is still plenty to do and wonderful places to visit, the roads are just quite a bit quieter. We look forward to meeting you. Rosemary The historic Stannery Town of Tavistock, voted Best market town in England not long ago is 5 minutes drive away, or 10 minutes downhill on a cycle. The national cycle path No. 27 is across the road from our woods, Gem Bridge is very nearby as is the 'tunnel' but the route will take you right into Tavy, with it's Pannier Market, Abbey, Bedford Square, Drake's statue, typical English Pubs, restaurants, meadow, canal, river walks, homemade food, eccentric shops, Arts Centre. What a place . We have 20 acres here to share with you including our open air swimming pool. Heated by the suns ray alone, you might find it invigorating sometimes...but so refreshing. Next to the secluded pool is the picnic lawn for you to share with our chickens, we maybe able to let you have sone free eggs Locally you can visit: Buckland Abbey, The Garden House, Princetown (with its infamous prison) access all of Dartmoor, Cornwall is 15 minutes away. The weather can change a lot during the day, we seem to have a micro climate at Furzeland Down. Sunny here yet raining in Tavy. (Sometimes the other way round!!) SPORT Do you want to play or watch? Which ever you choose or both there is Premiership Rugby at Exeter, an hour away at most, local rugby in Tavistock, blood and thunder stuff highly entertaining says my husband Gerald, 3 cricket clubs within 10 minutes, football, cycling of course, riding, 3 golf clubs, bowls, tennis, ice skating, pilates and yoga classes anything you want really But hey we've put books, games, wifi, television in the cottage, so you'll never be bored here.

Interaction with GuestsGerald and I live in Furzeland Down House just across the way from the cottage and we try to be here to meet and greet all our guests. The bar at the swimming pool is popular, its where we sometimes play backgammon over a coffee on summer mornings and maybe a G&T in the evening. You may also find us out walking the dogs, gardening, cutting the grass or managing the woodland. If asked we can help recommend places to visit. You will find that there is just so much to do from Furzeland Down Cottage. The NeighborhoodDartmoor National Park is made up of 368 sq miles of world class walking and riding country, full of interest, history and outstanding scenery. The landscape interspersed with granite built cottages, quaint smallholdings, great pubs serving delicious local produce, fine villages and a few moorland towns. The national cycle path no 27 (Drakes Trail) is across the road from our woodland. Getting AroundCar, cycle, walk, bus, taxi. Everything on your doorstep Other Things to NoteOur bluebell woodland is outstanding in May, a real must see and the rhododendron from April to June are a riot of colour against the green of the woods. We have various wide walkways through the woods which is a typical ancient woodland. We have a cricket net which you can take advantage of if you wish.
