The SpaceComfortable 1 bedroom apartment overlooking the garden. The bedroom features a nice big 6ft bed. The kitchen is well-equipped and the sitting room is bright and sunny. The newly refurbished bathroom includes a full-size bath and separate shower. There is parking for 1 car (sorry no camper vans). Guests are welcome to use the garden, where you may encounter our large, playful dog and small grumpy cat. However if dogs bother you we can happily close off part of the garden. We will be here to welcome guests on arrival, and then you will be welcome to come and go as you wish. After you settle in we will leave guests to their own devices, but one of us will be on hand 95% of the time. We'll be happy to make you a cup of tea and share local knowledge and info. Interaction with GuestsWe will welcome guests and show you in, then leave you to your own devices unless there is anything you need. Its a small village so we may see you in the (very nice) pub. In warmer weather we might enjoy a drink with you in the garden. The NeighborhoodLovely village, picturesque village green, great pub. Thetford Forest is nearby for walks (more great pubs) and cycling. Outdoor concerts at High Lodge in the summer. Fantastic shopping, food & history in Norwich. Along with its owners the main house has starred in two prime time television documentaries - one at ITV in their "Posh Dinner" series; the other for the BBC as their "Restaurant in Your Home". It has been Michelin recommended since 2005. The UK's leading guide to the country's finest restaurants The Good Food Guide gave Brovey Lair their annual Best Fish in Britain award and in its 2014 edition the guide describes the restaurant as Thrilling Gastro-Theatre - "the place thrills readers with its originality.....the event becomes an absorbing tutorial with guests getting up from their seats to watch Tina at work". Wines from exclusive sometimes small wineries are selected to match the east meets west cuisine and because they deal direct the prices are affordable starting at under £20. The bespoke 4 course fish and seafood menu is discussed with guests prior to their arrival and costs £52.50 per person plus a 10% gratuity. Booking is essential and should be done at the time of your room reservation. Call by telephone and ask for the chef who will discuss with you your food preferences. Menu options are on Brovey Lair's website along with their contact details. Just enter the restaurant's name into your preferred search engine. Resembling an American ranch house the property in which the restaurant is located is iconic, having featured as one of "25 Beautiful Homes" in the popular magazine of that name. Brovey Lair, close to the historic city of Norwich and within easy reach of Norfolk's heritage coast, has contemporary junior garden suites. Suites overlook rolling lawns and water features, are independent of the main building and afford total tranquillity and serenity. Relax and enjoy the silence, particularly at night. You’ll awake to the dawn chorus led by our large population of black collared doves and a few cockerels exchanging good mornings. Beds are super-kings with orthopaedic box sprung mattresses and cosy duvets; lighting is mood-controlled with floor to ceiling mirrored walls; there are CD/Radio,TV sets, teas, filtered coffee and chilled soft drinks, all complimentary. Pre-booked aromatherapy and Indian head massages in-room are available the afternoon you arrive and in summer guests can swim in the heated pool with towels (and swimsuits) supplied free. You have your own south-facing terrace with sun loungers where drinks and breakfast are served in fine weather. Breakfast? Healthy Californian blends excitingly with spicy Mexican, an original spin you’ll not experience anywhere else in the UK. Late breakfasts on weekends are encouraged and often run on until midday. You could be in paradise where relaxation and fabulous food combine to create an atmosphere of clandestine sensuality – a discovery you may wish to keep to yourselves! Tucked away in lush Norfolk fen-lands Brovey Lair is one of Norfolk's best kept secrets. The surrounding Brecks countryside is delightful with High Lodge in Thetford forest a short drive away. There you can walk for miles or if you’re feeling really adventurous, take the high wire trip above the forest called Go Ape. Closer to home, look out for the wild muntjack deer that occasionally prance around on our hills within full view of your room. The north Norfolk Heritage coast is under an hour’s drive and well worth the effort. Visit the little coastal village of Cley and walk for miles at the edge of the ocean. See them sailing at Blakeney and in summer take a boat out to the seal beds. From the ancient market town of Holt, known for its antique and food stores, drive 4 miles to Sheringham Woods, a National Trust park high above the sea. Noel Coward wrote in Private Lives “Very flat – Norfolk”. Not here it’s not! Then for nostalgia ride the Poppy Line steam train from the seaside resort of Sheringham to Holt and back. The Norfolk broads are wonderful for a voyage of 3 to 4 hours on a crisp autumn or spring day. Rent a small boat at picturesque Wroxham; explore Norfolk’s romantic waterways mooring at one of the riverside pubs for a light lunch. But be warned. Make lunch really light as a four course feast of fish, exquisite seafood and delicious desserts awaits you at dinner time. We have adequate off street parking well away from any main roads and are less than a mile from Watton - an ancient market town granted its charter by King John in mid 13th century. Nearby is Wayland Wood covered in spring by an ocean of bluebells and, legend has it, the original setting of the fairy story "Babes in the Wood". Surrounded by acres of forest, Brandon has a fascinating history that dates back hundreds of years, a time when Brandon was known as Brandon Ferry and the High Street was Ferry Street. Within a very short walk, you can be in the Forest and an easy way to start and finish your walk is from the Brandon Country Park if you are not familiar with the area. It is now managed for wildlife and people. In spring, hundreds of toads breed in the lake. Dragonflies and damselflies dart and skim across the water in the summer sunlight. From the lake, you also get clear views of the house. There are marked trails, a walled garden and tea rooms open all year round. High lodge in Thetford Forest boasts mountain biking trails (easy and more difficult), huge adventure play areas, open air concerts in the summer time ((website: hidden)) as well as bike hire and sales, and a cafe. There is a small gravelled garden area that can be used for relaxing in the sunshine.

The SpaceToday, just five minutes walk from the Hall, privately tucked away in the centre of the village sits The Grange - a most delightful, welcoming and impressive Georgian Farm House which provides all the trappings of a five star establishment. Guests can expect, lovingly prepared breakfast using only local produce: farm fresh eggs, locally smoked bacon and hand made sausages. Also evening meals and dinner parties can be arranged upon request. After a day of trying out any of the above, it is always a joy to get home to the Grange for a fireside drink, long soak in a hot bath before coming down for a real homemade farm house supper 'experience' All this at an incomparably low price. The NeighborhoodTravellers the world over visiting the UK will have heard of Euston, London's main railway station serving the British Isles all points north. Conversely, a very tiny number will have heard of Euston, the charming little village located on the borders of Norfolk and Suffolk from which, many years ago, the rail terminus took its name. The story goes that one of the Dukes of Grafton - some time during the mid 1800's - sold the bit of land he owned in London to the Railway Company on the proviso that, if ever they turned it into a mainline station, then they must call it Euston, so-called after Euston Hall, the outstanding and beautiful stately residence, home to the Duke's of Grafton over several hundred years.

There are many attractions within a few miles such as the beautiful National Trust property of Oxborough Hall, the wonderful water gardens at Gooderstone, the fascinating Grimes Graves - not graves but Neolithic flint mines and a bit further afield, the Fine City of Norwich and of course the famous Norfolk Broads. Our location in the centre of Norfolk also means that it is almost equidistant from the entire unspoilt Norfolk coastline. If you want the bracing coastal air and incredible seascapes, you can climb aboard a wooden ferryboat from picturesque Blakeney harbour (wonderful fish & chips there!), or ride the Wash Monster, an amphibious vessel, from Hunstanton to see the seals on the sandbanks in the Wash. For a gentle pace, try out the tranquil Norfolk Broads where you've got 125 miles of lock-free naviable waterways with peaceful anchorages. Chug along at a slow steady pace taking in the scenery and stop off at welcoming pubs or pretty Norfolk villages along the way. The SpaceNote that we host only one party at a time. So, whether there's one of you or six of you, all the guest facilities will be for your use only while you are staying with us. There are three spacious guest bedrooms, two doubles with king size beds and one with twin single beds that interconnects with one of the doubles. (Don't be confused by the Airbnb listing, which says '1 room'. The website only allows you to select "one room" when the accommodation is in your own house). The house is part 17th Century, part 18th Century and part 19th Century, but with all mod cons including superfast broadband and a contemporary bathroom with a great shower (this is not ensuite but it is for the private use of guests only). There is also a second shower room which is handy for larger groups. We also supply tea and coffee etc (plus kettle and water cooler) upstairs in the shared sitting space between the two double bedrooms. Guest AccessThere is a large comfortable sitting room with a log-burning stove and a smart TV with lots of apps (plus a cupboard full of games) for the use of guests only. You are also welcome to use our well-equipped kitchen if you want to prepare an evening meal. Outside, there is a croquet pitch on a field behind the garden (although it's more like obstacle croquet, because the rabbits make holes in the grass!) and you are welcome to borrow mallets and balls. We also have a big outdoor swimming pool (we provide towels) which is open during the summer months, plus an outdoor table tennis table. And of course you can simply choose to sit and relax in the lovely garden (which has opened under the National Gardens Scheme). Interaction with GuestsWe are very happy to advise on things to see nearby and have loads of guide books and maps that people are welcome to borrow. We enjoy a chat about anything and everything, but we also respect that you want time and space for yourselves. The NeighborhoodThe beautiful market town of Bury St Edmunds is only 15 minutes away by car, as is Thetford Forest in the other direction. And Cambridge is just an hour away. There are plenty of places to eat within a few miles and a village shop just up the road plus several more a couple of miles away. The whole area is superb cycling country and there are some lovely Suffolk Wildlife Trust reserves, such as Redgrave and Lopham Fen, a short drive away. Getting AroundThere are a couple of buses a day, in and out of Bury St Edmunds. The nearest train station is in Bury St Edmunds, but the faster Norwich to Liverpool Street line is better reached at Stowmarket. You probably need a car (or perhaps bikes) to get the most out of this location. Other Things to NoteThere is plenty of off-road parking space. The village has few amenities, but it's certainly a place where you can get away from it all! I offer a full English cooked breakfast (there's always a vegetarian option) at no extra cost, but preferably after 7.30 am (just let me know your preferred time). And of course you are welcome to help yourself to breakfast if you want something very early or are in a rush. There is a variety of breakfast goodies (cereal, fruit juice, fruit, yoghurt, toast, etc) to choose from.
