I live in a lovely terraced cottage in a very pretty street 5 minutes walk from the middle of Totnes, with my 10 year old daughter and two cats. We have a 3 bedroom house with a lovely garden. I love rural crafts and weave life size willow animals and bee skeps. We both love the countryside and my daughter is mad about horses and goes riding at the local stables in Staverton. Totnes is an incredibly interesting medieval town with a very rich history and is quite bohemian. It is also next to the River Dart (5 minutes from our house) where you can take river boat rides to neighbouring villages. We are only 20 minutes drive from Dartmoor National Park and 40 minutes from many interesting and varied beaches. I

The SpaceAlthough just a few minutes walk from the centre of the bustling market town of Totnes, Garden Cottage is hidden away down a quiet street with no through traffic and the loudest sound is usually the birds in the trees. There is a private parking space and then you approach the cottage through its private and very sunny garden. Totnes is a fantastic base to explore South Devon. It has a great selection of shops, cafes and restaurants but is also close to some fantastic beaches and the wild open spaces of Dartmoor. There are also some great walks from the door. The cottage was originally the changing rooms for a tennis court that belonged to the grand house next door, but it been beautifully and tastefully converted into a luxurious cottage perfect for a couple. However one additional adult or child can be accommodated on the sofabed in the open plan sitting room and kitchen. There is a good sized open plan living room with a stylish galley kitchen, dining table and chairs, comfortable sofa, flat-screen wall-mounted TV, Wifi internet connection and a wood burning stove. Beyond that you reach the large and very bright double bedroom. The bedroom has a king-sized (6ft) double bed that can be split into 2 singles for maximum flexibility. Next door to the bedroom is a luxury bathroom with a walk-in shower. Well-equipped kitchen has utensils and crockery chosen with real care. There's also a, washing machine, dishwasher, free wifi and a flat-screen TV. The cottage has its own private parking space (a rarity in Totnes) but is also only 15 minutes walk from Totnes mainline station with direct trains to Bristol, London and beyond. There are also some fantastic walks and bike rides from the door. The walk/bike ride up the hill to the Sharpham Estate is particularly recommended and you can combine that with a visit to taste some of the excellent local wines at Sharpham Vineyard. The NeighborhoodA bustling medieval market town on a beautiful river with great walking, canoeing and swimming and just a few miles from fabulous beaches or Dartmoor. What's not to like? Getting AroundYes, mainline train to London from Totnes is less than 15 minutes walk.

The SpaceThe houses on Huxham's Cross were built for the workers on Dartington Estate in the early part of last century. Our home is only a walk away to Dartington Hall through beautiful woods. Go through the same woods to swim in the river, cycle down to Totnes (and discover a high street and market bustling with energy) or enjoy a coffee in the cool Staverton nursery cafe. We're also a walk away from the steam train which takes you to the Otter and Butterfly Sanctuary in Buckfastleigh and the Rare Breeds Farm in Totnes. Both great days out for the family. If you feel like staying at home there's a big garden to relax in, with a large trampoline, a slide and a hammock for those lazy days in the sun. You'll be bathed in birdsong as well as sunshine. The cabin at the end of the garden is private and can not be used during your stay. Guest AccessYou'll have access to full wifi connection in the house. We do not own a TV so please make sure you bring a laptop or ipad if you would like to watch things. There is one kingsize bedroom, one single or twin bedroom (depending on what is required) and one childrens bedroom ( with a small child's bed). We have lots of musical instruments to share: a piano, keyboard, guitar, drums, lots of percussion, and plenty of toys for smaller children, including an all time favourite- a lovely wooden rocking horse. There's also plenty of books to choose from if you fancy snuggling up on the couch for a quiet night in. The bathroom is a bit old school with only a bath, sink and toilet - no shower. But there is hot water at any time you want. The NeighborhoodDartington is well known for its art college which brought a bohemian feel to the area. Although the art and music college has moved on, the dartington hall estate and gardens is an area of unquestionable beauty. Talking of beauty, a 10 minute drive will take you to the edge of Dartmoor National Park which is famous for its ancient sites and mystical feel, as well as stunning landscapes. We have a book on Dartmoor walks for your use. A 40 minute drive in the other direction takes you to some of the most spectacular beaches in the country. My favourite is Blackpool sands. We have a guidebook on all the beaches of the area for your use too. Getting AroundThere is parking outside the house, around the green. We are 10 minutes for totnes train station, and on the bus route from Totnes to Buckfastleigh. Other Things to NoteWe don't own a TV but there's a desktop computer in the twin room which plays DVDs ( please bring your own DVDs).

This home is in the very heart of the beautiful Transition Town of Totnes with bridle paths and long walks stretching way into the distant hills only seconds away. The river Dart is also just a stones throw down the road from our doorstep where you can enjoy the use of our kayaks and canoe to explore some of the most famously beautiful stretches of river in Europe. Some of the greatest beaches are also just a short drive away (we'll let you in on all the best secret beaches!) and Dartmoor, the largest piece of undisturbed ancient land in England is also close by Enjoy lovely sunsets from our big windows with a cup of tea or make use our courtyard garden with barbeque and garden furniture if it's a nice evening. We've also got a large 7ft table which could seat (and has!) up to 12 people around. The main bedroom has an enormous double king size organic bed with natural organic brushed cotton linen in every room to help you fall into the most comfortable sleep of your life! The house stays warm and dry and is good for anybody suffering from asthma, although worth mentioning that we have a dog, who comes with us when we let the house!(And lives downstairs, away from bedrooms.) The second double bedroom next to the main one has a bunkbed that can be used by adults or children. Again is warm, south facing, and inviting. It may not look exactly as the picture here as my son does move his furniture occasionally, but will have 2 beds all the same! The third room is a small cosy single room overlooking the rooftops of Totnes, and the nesting seagulls, it is a peaceful room. The house has a main bathroom (bath with shower) and another toilet downstairs. The accomodation is offered as self service, but we'd be happy to get some well sourced local food in before or during your stay if you'd like, (I recommend Riverford, for both locally delivered food, and eating out at the field kitchen at Staverton.) and will leave a guide of the area, and menus from local restaurants for you to leaf through. If you have any queries do get in touch. Thanks for your enquiry! Katie Guest AccessEverything but the attic! Interaction with GuestsWe are offering the house on a 3/4 day break, or weekly basis during school holidays, but get in touch if you have plans that might involve a longer stay, and minimum 2 night stay at other times. Well behaved dogs welcome and there are fantastic dog walks right on the doorstep. The NeighborhoodI have travelled extensively all over the world and lived in many different places. Totnes is the most effective and generous community we've ever come across, our lives are rich and brimming with life! With so much on our doorstep to explore still, even living here for 10 years, there is still so much more to discover. It's just beautiful. Getting AroundYou can walk everywhere within Totnes as we're right in the middle of town. You can also walk or bicycle to Dartington or Sharpham alongside ancient wild river pathways. A regular bus service runs from just around the corner, with services to Paignton, Torbay, Dartmouth and Plymouth, and trains from Totnes station go regularly to everywhere in the country (2.5-3hrs to/from London). If you want to explore further into the west country you could get a Devon and Cornwall rail card which could save you a lot. On travel down here! And of course plenty of air b&b hosts around Cornwall too! Totnes is roughly 20 minutes from both the sea and the moor, so If you choose to bring or hire a car, it is really easy to get to some incredible places! But there are buses that can also take you through the gorgeous countryside out to popular and lovely beaches and walks, of attractions. There is so much to do and see, and also to relax with, you may even want to come back! Other Things to NoteSend us an email if you have any questions, look forward to seeing you x x x

The SpaceThis apartment is part of the last house in the village with only fields beyond and is very quiet. The loudest sound is usually the whistle from the local steam railway over a mile away. However BT Infinity fast broadband has just arrived & there's pretty good mobile reception (for Devon) so you won't be completely cut off! The apartment is completely self-contained with its own entrance and has a good-sized bright bedroom/studio with a table and chairs, a small kitchen area (with sink, fridge, kettle, toaster, tea and coffee making and a gas cooker with hob and oven), a bathroom (with bath and thermostatically controlled shower) and an entrance hall area with space to hang coats. The room is tastefully furnished with a stone Minster working fireplace, an Art deco desk, Ercol quaker chairs and original oil paintings and etchings. There is also a large 30in LCD TV with DVD player (photo not updated yet) and a Sony clock/radio/ipod player. During the winter firewood is supplied for the open fire. There is also a very sunny, private outside seating area with a table, two chairs and a small BBQ overlooking the front garden. There's plenty of wild life! We regularly see deer and rare Green Woodpeckers as well as all the more common birds. You can park your car right outside the apartment. The 5ft ziplink double bed splits into two singles if required ( photo not yet updated) We can provide a camp-bed for a 3rd person (or child) for a small additional cost. However due to the limited space we don't recommend this for stays of longer than 3 nights maximum. The kitchen is small so if you want to cook 3 course dinners every night it's probably not for you. Guest AccessFull access to the whole apartment. Interaction with GuestsI'm available on phone and email prior to your arrival. And as I live next door I'm there to help if you have any questions or need anything. The NeighborhoodWhere else can you reach the sea in around half an hour or be up on the wilds of Dartmoor in even less time. But there are also fantastic walks from the door. One of the best wild swimming spots in the UK (in the Guardian's top 10) is less than a mile from the house. The medieval market town of Totnes is also less than 10 minutes drive with its many wonderful shops, cafes and restaurants. Getting AroundTotnes Station on the main line to London is less than 10 minutes drive and there are regular buses from the end of our road to the station or in the other direction towards Buckfastleigh and Ashburton. The apartment is also less than 10 minutes drive from the A38, the dual carriageway that links to the M5. Other Things to NoteThe house was built in 1962 and was designed by modernist Arthur Grayson for the novelist and composer Bruce Montgomery. Montgomery was quite well known at the time and wrote the music for the first 6 Carry on movies. He was also a friend of Agatha Christie who apparently came to dinner at the house.

I take care to ensure you have lots of information and maps about the area so you can appreciate the unique and outstanding beauty of this area of Devon. The NeighborhoodThis is my much-loved home and a great place to stay! You're just a minute away from the centre of bustling alternative Totnes and its famous markets in a quiet little terrace set above the street. Its a special town full of history and little back street surprises - many come to visit and end up staying longer or coming back to live. There is a steam railway and rare breeds farm just 3 minutes walk away and the Dartington Hall estate with its beautiful gardens and grounds hosts a rich calendar of films, music events, summer music festivals and other artistic events. Totnes is a transition town and offers many events and public meetings that engage with current ecological concerns. A short drive away is Dartmoor with wild ponies, deer, buzzards, tors, steep wooded valleys and rushing rivers - a paradise for walkers, cyclists, canoeists and wild swimmers. In the opposite direction are the many varied coves and beaches of the South Devon coast - among them my most favourite beaches in the world. The southwest coastpath walks are the best way of seeing them all. The historical naval town of Dartmouth and the pretty Salcombe estuary are both 30-35 minutes drive from the house. Getting AroundThe house is 4 minutes walk from the mainline station to London and Penzance. This means there's easy train access to the nearest cities Plymouth and Exeter. Public transport doesn't allow the freedom to explore the full potential of this area - a car is recommended. I provide on street residential parking permits. The SpaceThe spectacular views which take in Dartmoor, Totnes Castle, the Elizabethan high street, River Dart and meadows, make the space unique. Located just 6 mins' walk to Totnes town centre & with parking (a rarity in Totnes), Dart Villas is close to the centre of town but feels like a true retreat. Beautifully decorated throughout, the apartment includes a dining table and 6 chairs, which can be located for you to enjoy the panoramic views. The lounge is very comfortable, and with the open plan kitchen, means that you can prepare meals (or even just make tea!) within a light, social space. The apartment sleeps 4 & can sleep 6 if you locate the very comfortable trundle beds in the large living room or spacious, attractive hall. I provide extra firewood, kindling and coal, within your price so that you can enjoy the open fire. Guest AccessGuests have access to all amenities including digital cooker, microwave, washing machine, freeview+ TV, wifi, DVD player, stereo, 2 showers, open fire and remote-controlled central heating. Nothing's off limits. There is also a garage and 2 communal gardens for your use. Interaction with GuestsI won't be present, but feel free to get in touch should you need anything or just want to know more about the types of things to see and do. I also provide a 'Live Like a Local' Tourist Guide that lists my favourite places & things to do, including the best places to eat & drink and family activities. There are numerous guides, maps and booklets for your use upon arrival. The NeighborhoodThere's so much to love, it's hard to narrow it down. The quaint streets, independent shops, stylish boutiques, castle, great restaurants, Saturday market, and of course the River Dart, the nearby Dartington and Sharpham Country Estates. Coffee snobs like me must try the Italian Curators' Cafe in Totnes for the best coffee in the world! On my doorstep are stunning beaches, historic houses, riverside walks and a host of visitor attractions suitable for individuals and families alike. Totnes Rare Breeds Centre and The Steam Railway (situated next to each other) are gems, along with the Sharpham Vineyard and Cafe and Riverford Field Kitchen. Kayaking and midnight paddles on the River Dart are amazing. Walks on Dartmoor are a must too. More details can be found in the 'Local Tourist Guide' I've produced and within your welcome pack. Getting AroundTotnes is the transportation hub of South Devon. It has bus services to everywhere you'd need to go, as well as a mainline train service to Birmingham, London, Bristol, Edinburgh and many other places. It even has a water taxi service! Nearest airport is Exeter, which is 45 mins' drive, or Bristol which is 90 mins' drive. Taxi-wise there are a list of recommended firms with contact details in the 'Local Tourist Guide' I've produced and in your welcome pack. Other Things to NoteMinimum stay is 5 days. Dart Villas has such spectacular views because it's located up a hill. Whilst only 6 minutes' walk from the town centre, it is steep and there is also a steep drive to the property. If you have mobility problems, I recommend you get in touch with me first. There is a garage with the apartment that fits 1 small to medium-sized car. If you've an estate, or large car, like a Picasso or Range Rover, it won't fit in the garage, although there is usually free onsite parking on the hill 10 seconds' walk away. If there are 5 or 6 of you in your party, whilst the apartment has sleeping provision for 6 (very comfortable, good quality beds: 1 double bed, 2 day beds and 2 trundle beds), there are only 2 bedrooms. The double bedroom has the double bed and could fit 1 trundle bed. The other bedroom fits 2 day beds. This means that the trundle beds would need to be placed in the living room or spacious hall or 1 placed in the double bedroom.

Then there's train services from Totnes and Newton Abbot (with strangely low prices across Devon and Cornwall). Other Things to NoteLuna our talkative black and white cat is fun to play with, but doesn't like being held.

The SpaceOne of our guests described The Old Granary as "A little gem"! We can't improve on that description. Small, quirky, cosy, comfortable, convenient, peaceful, tranquil, and set in a most beautiful part of the country. Comfortable for two, but no more than two! Guest AccessGuests have their own private little garden with bbq facility. There is a short nature trail around the farm through woodland and by the ponds, where our ducks and our two sheep can be admired Interaction with GuestsWe live in the main farmhouse, and are happy to advise our guests on where to go, where to eat, and what's happening locally. The NeighborhoodThe lack of traffic noise, being woken by birds! The bright stars at night with no light pollution. Being close enough to the coast and Dartmoor to go there for a walk without having to plan ahead. Getting AroundWe are out in the country, and it is best to get around by car.
