The SpaceVictorian Mining has characterised this part of the country. The Old Basket Factory was converted in 1996 and is now a delightful bed and breakfast. Low ceilings give the ensuite bed room a certain charm. River views are inevitable. Guest AccessA dining room and outside seating in Summer Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to recommend the area and chat at breakfast The NeighborhoodThe Basket Factory was used to make baskets for the mules in the 1850's. The baskets were then loaded with lime off the boats and fruit & veg grown locally was loaded onto the boats & taken by river & sea to London. This area is un-manicured and has a wild Hound of the Baskerville (Arthur Connan Doyle - Sherlock Holmes) feel about it, especially Darmoor. Getting AroundBest is to have a car. A train comes to Bere Ferres, located about 3 miles away. There is a local bus from Bere Alston (2 1/2 miles) Other Things to NoteWe have been doing Bed & Breakfast for 14 years now. Price is per room for 1 person with breakfast or £74 for 2 people

The SpaceThe peaceful and beautiful Tamar Valley is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Silver Barn doesn't have internet though there is TV, radio and CD player as well as a selection of books and games for you to enjoy. Interaction with GuestsI live nearby and will come to greet you after your arrival. I am always happy to help in any way that I can. The NeighborhoodHewton is a small hamlet deep in the Devon countryside. There are lots of lovely local walks - through the woods and by the river. The nearest shops are in Bere Alston (1.5 miles) where there is a Co-op, high-quality butchers, post office selling fabulous Pepper Street breads, Spar, pub, hairdressers and a huge second hand book shop! There is also a pub serving food at Bere Ferrers. Both villages have churches. Getting AroundThe Bere Peninsula is served by a rail line (stations at Bere Ferrers and Bere Alston, both approx two miles from the property), you can travel across the spectacular Calstock viaduct into Cornwall or, in the other direction you can get to Plymouth in 20 minutes. It is however also useful to have a car because of the rural setting of the barn. The beautiful beaches of north and south Devon and Cornwall are within reach, as are visitor attractions such as the Eden Project.

It's lovely here, so peaceful in your own private cottage perched above the Tamar; the views over the river are glorious and steep steps lead to the shore and a little jetty – borrow a canoe and paddle up stream. Rowers, geese and herons glide by on misty mornings; the woodland garden is full of spring bulbs, vegetables you can pick, free-range hens, chatting guinea fowl and Arabella and Willow the donkeys. Settle on the cushioned window seat in the pretty sitting room with toasty wood-burner, books, art and family photos; copper urns and pewter jugs on a deep slate sill brim with flowers. The cosy kitchen has a lived-in, charming feel with old pine, pretty china, coffee grinder, Belfast sink and cosy Rayburn. Sip coffee on the sheltered terrace that catches the morning sun. The light-filled bedroom has a comfortable bed, thick curtains and that view to wake to; the double ended rolltop bath is a treat. Delightful Trish can give you routes for good walks, lend you a map and suggest places to visit, boat trips to take. Nearby Tavistock has independent shops, galleries and a lively Saturday market. Live by the tide and emerge refreshed.
