The SpaceDesigner styled, peaceful and cozy 2-room apartment near the Sibelius park and the award-winning seaside café Regatta. Lovely bedroom for a couple, and large living room where two more people can sleep comfortably.
The apartment is perfectly suited for relaxation - the massaging shower, the soft adjustable lighting, the books you can browse for inspiration.
The seashore is just two blocks down (300m), with a lovely walk to the award-winning Café Regatta.
The Sibelius park, where busloads of tourists (particularly from Japan) flock to gaze at the Sibelius monument, is just at the end of my street, and the hop-on-hop-off tour bus stops by the park.
Nearby sights include
Cultural center Korjaamo with concerts & events (located in the old tram factory)
The beautiful Töölö bay (Töölönlahti)
The National museum (Kansallismuseo)
The National Opera (Kansallisooppera)
The church within the rock (Temppeliaukion Kirkko)
Winter garden (greenhouse built in the 1800's, with palms and cacti and special shows like orchids, free entry)
Seurasaari island and outdoor museum
Wooden mansions and the "Blue cafe" on top of the hill above Töölö bay (at Linnunlaulu)
The Olympic Stadium and tower, where sports events and concerts take place
Some of the best bars and restaurants within walking distance:
Restaurant Mountain - excellent Nepalese cuisine
Bar Sushi & Wine - this restaurant acquired the top sushi chefs in town
Café Regatta - an open fire by the seaside, tasty Finnish sweet and salty snacks, and quirky decorations
This apartment is located in a peaceful street near the sea, but still close to the buzz of downtown. You can walk downtown along the beautiful bay of Töölönlahti (a 2 mile walk) or hop on a bus or tram for the Helsinki design district, the railway station and all the museums and sights in town.
The bedroom has a high-quality double bed - many guests have commented on how good it is to sleep on. If more than two people are staying, we can set up another real bed in the living room (otherwise it is hidden behind a curtain against the wall). Also this one is a good quality bed with inner spring mattresses. It can be used as a double bed (160cm wide), or as two separate beds. With a folding screen, it is possible to add privacy for people sleeping in the living room.
The apartment is ideal for two adults with or without children - but also several groups of 3 or 4 adults (even 5 once :-D ) have enjoyed staying here. The place is also great for two couples who are close friends, for example. Just note that Finnish apartments usually have just one bathroom (unlike in the US where each bedroom has their own) so you will need to share.
I increased the number of guests that can book to stay at the apartment from 2 to 4, because many groups of friends were asking if more than two could stay here (and they did stay here and said that they enjoyed it). Guest AccessYou will enjoy a speedy and reliable WiFi internet connection called the Magical Canopy.
A hair dryer, iron, and other amenities are available.
All within 300m of the apartment, you can find restaurants, the seashore, several grocery stores, a bakery, the post office, and a large park great for a morning run or afternoon walk, including a children's playground. Interaction with GuestsIf you have questions during your stay, just message me via AirBnB and I'll be there for you. The NeighborhoodThis is a safe and peaceful neighbourhood in the Töölö district of Helsinki, with the Sibelius park and seashore nearby.
The shoreline is wonderful for romantic evening walks or sunny Sunday strolls. In the darkening nights of autumn, people gather here for the yearly fireworks competition. The nearby Sibelius park is great for picnics in the summer. You could also walk or ride your bicycle along the winding road to the Seurasaari island (or take the bus 24 around the corner if you don't feel like walking). The island itself houses an open air museum of ancient Finnish farm houses, and has cute squirrels that eat out of your hand.
I particularly love the nearby cultural center Korjaamo, built in an old tram factory - it houses a cafe, bar, pop-up design shops and galleries, and creative work spaces. Many creative people bring their laptops and work on their projects in the café. Getting AroundHelsinki is the perfect city for bicycling - it is almost flat, no hills, no sweat. :-) Cycling along the shore is a great way to explore the surroundings.
In the summer season I may have bicycles to rent on the spot (you may ask in advance), or you can use one of the several bicycle rental shops in Helsinki.
Loads of buses and trams go near the apartment, and connections within Helsinki and to Espoo are generally very good. The apartment is almost downtown Helsinki, about 10 minutes by bus or tram to Kamppi (center).
If you enjoy walking, you can also go to town on foot. It is an easy walk of 3km (under 2 miles) from the apartment to the Kamppi shopping Center which is smack in the center. You can choose scenic routes most of the way through the nearby parks and along the seashore or Töölö bay. Along the way you can enjoy the sights like the the Church in the rock, the Opera, the Stadium, the National museum, and more (taking different routes on different days will take you past different sights). Other Things to NoteThe neighborhood is generally very peaceful and safe. Some of the neighbors have children, so there will be some normal family sounds. But we Finns are not loud folks - probably this area is very quiet compared to many cities around the world. :-)
The apartment has a bedroom, one bathroom, and another large room which is a combined kitchen and living room. A folding screen is available to add privacy when some guests are sleeping in the living room.
The double bed in the bedroom has 5-zone Jensen mattresses, for very comfortable sleep. The window side is more firm, and the other side is medium, so you get to choose your preference. A guest who said that they have a Hästens bed at home (a very high-end brand of luxury bed) commented that this bed compared very well to it! And a guest who needed a good bed because of back problems commented that he was also very satisfied with the bed. The bed is 160 cm wide (the box mattresses are 180cm altogether).
There is another comfortable, 160cm wide bed in the living room. It can be taken apart to make two 80cm wide beds if desired.
The apartment is on the first floor, so no worries about carrying luggage up the stairs (there are just a couple of steps to go).
In the summertime I usually have a couple of bicycles available for rent. Helsinki is perfect on bicycle, and renting them right from the apartment couldn't be easier! If you would like them, it is recommended to ask ahead.
