The SpaceWelcome to Helsinki – and welcome to YOUR home in Helsinki! :) I’m happy to offer my hospitality and I will do my best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I have used Couchsurfing and the Hospitality Club for something like 10 years, having had literally hundreds of 100% positive experiences both as a host and as a guest myself. I love meeting new people from all around the world and I look forward to welcoming you through Airbnb!
Cozy and beautiful little one-room apartment, 30 square meters big. Perfect for one person, or a couple. There's also a small guest bed in case you want to sleep separately, or if you are three people in total. Extra mats for more people available upon request. Towels and sheets are of course included.
The kitchen is fully functioning and invites you to cook! :) I have a fridge, a freezer, an oven, a dishwasher, a toaster, and a water boiler, as well as all the necessary dishes, pans, and pots.
In the bathroom, there's a shower and a washing machine that you are welcome to use. (Yes, I know, while traveling, it's nice to have the possibility to wash your clothes!) The laundry drier is stored behind the mirror in the hallway.
If you need to work, you can use the desktop, plug in your laptop to use the big screen, and of course make use of the well-functioning WiFi. Guest AccessThere's a sauna in the basement free for use. If the weather is nice, you can also use the courtyard outside. Interaction with GuestsI'm staying just a mere 100 meters away, so I can help you with any questions you might have. Moreover, as I have worked as a tour guide, I'm happy to give you any sightseeing tips for Helsinki! The apartment includes also maps of Helsinki, and you can borrow the Lonely Planet and other guidebooks that are there. The NeighborhoodI live in the neighborhood of Old Munkkiniemi, about 20 minutes away from the city center by tram – and a 10-minute walk from the beautiful island of Seurasaari! It's a nice and tranquil residential area with easy access to a supermarket and to nice walking paths in the forest.
Other things to do in Munkkiniemi: There's a beach, the Alvar Aalto House, the Urho Kekkonen Museum, a couple of tennis centers, a couple of parks, cafes, shops, and also a beautiful forest, not only on the island of Seurasaari but also in the Meilahti park.
The location of the apartment is perfect as a "base camp" for exploring Helsinki, as a "home away from home" or as an office if you need to work. Getting AroundThe place is easily reachable by public transport from the city center. Take either tram 4 towards Munkkiniemi and get off at "Munkkiniemen Puistotie" (abbreviated in the tram as "Munkkin. Puistot.), or take a bus (14/18/39) and get off at "Munkkiniemen aukio". A notable "landmark" next to the bus and tram stops is a greenish Neste gas station (and a few hundred meters earlier a huge McDonald's).
If you like walking, it's nice to walk along the coast for about an hour (5km) to the city. You will pass beautiful nature, the famous Cafe Regatta, and the Sibelius Monument.
If you come by car, there are free parking spots available along the street. Other Things to NoteThe mattress of the main bed is a special "health mattress" – some people might find it a bit hard if you are used to really soft mattresses. But it's certainly good for your back!
August 2016: Please note that the Smoke Detector and the Carbon Monoxide Detector is currently broken. I'm trying to get it repaired (or get a new one) as soon as possible... Also, there's a hole in the roof right next to the entrance as the condominium association hasn't fixed it yet, but it doesn't disturb the comfort of the apartment.
