This gorgeous mountain cottage for 4/5 guests, is situated in a tiny hamlet at the bottom of ‘Puy Mary’ (pronounced pwee marree) which at 1787m (3900ft) is part of the largest volcano in Europe. Typical of the region, the cottage is built of stone with a lauze tile roof. It has been beautifully restored retaining many original features whilst offering comfort and modern conveniences. For those who love clean mountain air, outdoor pursuits or just peace and quiet, Puy Mary is the perfect place. Having been shaped over time by water and ice, the panorama from this fabulous natural phenomenon will take your breath away. These rich expansive grasslands, enlivened by herds of red Salers cows, preserve the country's ancient traditions and the region is also a sanctuary for birds of prey and exotic mountain flora. This cottage is unique in our portfolio as it enables you to totally switch off from today's intrusive technology driven world. No TV, no internet, just peace! The entrance is through the garden up a flight of stone steps to a small balcony which leads into the large open plan living area, with exposed stone walls and beams. At one side is the kitchen/dining area with oak farmhouse table and chairs and on the other, the living area with large “Cantou” (inglenook) fireplace, comfortable sofas and armchairs. The kitchen is fully equipped On the next floor are are 3 bedrooms consisting of one double, one twin and a third with 2 x 2 bunk beds. There is also a bathroom with a small size bath and shower attachment. As there is only one small bathroom, we only recommend a maximum occupancy of 5 people.     The house of rocks is not located in the heart of the Cantal massif, perched 982m above sea level, above the waterfall Malbec, under the Elancèzes and the chaos of Casteltinet. Wedged against the rock, the house is sheltered from the wind. The terrace is south facing, the view is wide and pan the Cère Valley, from upstream to downstream. The site is secluded and quiet. The house has a 3 * to Carlades Tourist Office. ACCESS Access to the house by a PR referenced (Small hiking path) that connects the village to the hamlets of Thiézac Trielle-Le Clou-Armandie. There are walks to suit all levels, from 1 hour easy terrain walks to more challenging GR tracks. Mountain bikers and road cyclists are also well catered for with an impressive network of tracks and quiet lanes.
