The SpaceAlthough a typical 19th century middleclass house, it is quite spacious and bright (180 m2 on 4 floors). Renovated 3 years ago, it keeps a lot of its original ornaments : woodwork, pine and tiles floors, plaster mouldings, they mix up with contemporary furniture to put you in a warm and cosy atmosphere. The living room and kitchen are full of colours and open onto a blossoming little garden. We live here for 8 years as a family of 5, aged from 8 to 44.
The house comprises 3 bedrooms on the 2nd and 3d floors (with double bed – two of them brand new hotel quality beds -; one with 1 extra single bed), two bathrooms (one with shower, and one with shower and bathtub), and 3 toilets. The living room is on the ground floor and comprises a family dining area, sofas, a hi-fi, an art books and comics collection, and a grand piano. The small garden is oriented southward and iq full of flowers. You can use it to have a drink, to enjoy your meal or to take a nap in a deskchair. You will pick small fruits, as well as fresh leaves or twigs for herbal tea.
Our house equipment reflects our eco-minded lifestyle : you are encouraged to water the organic vegetable patch on the roof (everything that is ripe is yours, of course!). We threw away our TV and our microwave oven : to replace the first one, free wifi is available all around the house; for the rest, our kitchen is great for natural food lovers, it comprises a low temperature oven, a special juice extractor and blender, a germinating seeds kit, a yogurt machine, a sparkling water maker, etc. Coffee and tee are fairtrade-labeled. All kitchen and housekeeping products are ecological. Well, our toaster, refrigerator and dishwasher are quite conventional... Guest AccessThe house will be entirely yours. We live abroad part of the year so we enjoy people staying in our place when we are away. We will see you on your arrival and if you wish, we can get you any explanations and touristic documents useful for your stay. The house is ready to be lived in (towels, bedsheets, some groceries and dairy products, hairdrier, soap and shampoo, etc.) Just put down you luggage and enjoy!
Among others, you can of course use our laundry machine, drier and iron, located in the basement. The children will enjoy the Wii, the baby foot, music instruments and many more. A wide array of cards and board games are at your disposal around the house. Interaction with GuestsWe'd enjoy to welcome you on your arrival. A person we trust will be at your disposition for any question or problem and we can be called or (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)d at any time. The NeighborhoodOne of this place's most attractive characteristics is its great location.
A few minutes away from Brussels Midi Train Station (with several daily departures to Paris, London, Amsterdam, Köln, etc.), you will find yourself in a specially calm neighbourhood.
You are just a few minutes walk away from two of our city's nightlife hotspots : Place du Châtelain and Parvis de Saint-Gilles, with their lively bars and great terraces.
Our one-way street is off the beaten tracks, but just around the corner are two welcoming cafés : La Belladone and Terra Incognita.
At a stone's throw you'll discover anything one can wish for an exciting and convenient stay : a bakery, supermarkets (open 7 days a week), a daily market, picturesque cafés like Moeder Lambic and Verschueren, gastronomic restaurants as well as all kinds of diners and of take-aways, an amazing concentration of books and comics stores (new and used), parks and playgrounds for children, typical or specialised quality foodstores (fresh fish, organic, portuguese, lebanese, thai, hungarian, polish, moroccan, etc.), and of course numerous Belle Epoque landmarks like the architect Victor Horta's house (open to the public), art galleries, antique dealers. Incidentally, the beautiful cachet of the whole 19th century neighbourhood is really noteworthy.
Its position being very central in town, the subway line, to be reached 4 blocks away, will take you directly downtown (trendy boutiques, festivals and concerts, movies, museums, Grand Place, etc.), and from there with great facility anywhere else in Brussels, including to the european district.
Brussels is a great city with an incredible quality of life : museums, festivals, concert halls, cultural events of great quality in all disciplines, informal happenings, etc. And daily life is less expansive than in most other european capital cities.
Getting AroundThe house is located 4 blocks away from a subway station with 3 lines. It will take you in no time to Brussels Midi train Station and to the historic center.
From Midi Station, you'll find a shuttle train to the airport, and a train ride of at most 45 minutes will take you to all the major sightseeing cities around like Gent, Bruges, Antwerp, Mons and many more.
This is a place for streetwalkers and bikeriders. You can use the bike of the house. The use of a car on a regular basis is difficult : parking in this part of town is easy only during school holidays, and charged all daytime all year long. But you can easily access bikesharing and carsharing facilities just around the block. We'll be glad to explain you how they work. All the usual car rental companies are to be found at the Midi Station. Other Things to NoteNote that during the summer, we will give priority to long stay requests.
