This part of Lake Petén Itzá is still wild and quiet, at night you will hear hawler monkeys and frogs, you can fish, hike in the jungle, etc. ROOM 1: Big room, about 20sqm 220sqft, plus en-suite bathroom with shower. This room has A/C. One queen size bed (Guatemalan queen size is a little smaller than US queen size, at 160cm), bedside tables and lots of space to store your things, desk, a dozen plugs to charge your laptops and phones. The best sunsets are from October to February. The lake is around 30 degrees/80F year round so you can swim at any time. It is safe for kids. GETTING THERE / AMENITIES It is better if you have your own vehicle, at the moment (June 16) the road is in good shape, it gets bad with the rains around September but safe for a few days per year you can access with a normal car. Otherwise by public bus, there are 6 buses a day from Flores to San Pedro, or you can take a microbus hourly from Flores to San José, 6 miles away, and hire a tuktuk from there. It takes about 40 minutes by car to go to Flores and one hour to Tikal, 1 hour by bus to go to Flores, we can book you a tour to Tikal but there are no public buses where we are that will take you there. You can take a bus to Flores, then to Tikal if you prefer. Our village is small and you will find basic shops that sell a few fruits, vegetables, dry goods and drinks. The nearest supermarket where you will find more choice is 20 miles/30km away. We recommend you bring your food on arrival if you like to cook. MEALS We can provide meals for you as well. INTERNET We have no landline to get fast internet, so we use a USB modem to connect to the internet, and the quality of connection varies greatly from day to day. The wifi works in a 5 meter radius of where you plug it, so if you are on your own you can take it to your room, otherwise it will be in the living room for all to use. It has a data limit of 500Mo a day per 24 hour and when it is up you can purchase more credit or we will put a new plan the next day. Getting AroundThe easiest way for you to come is with your own vehicle. Sometimes during the rainy months the road is pretty bad, and a small 4WD is better, although the road usually gets fixed quickly and normal cars can use it 99% of the year. There is a public bus 4 times a day from Flores to San Pedro, otherwise there are minivans every half hour to San José, then you can hitch to San Pedro or we also offer pickup service. From Belize, Tikal and El Remate, you would have to do a bus change in Flores, or take the North road around the lake hitching one of the many pickup trucks that carry locals. There is no set schedule for those. The last bus from Flores to San Pedro is at 6pm, arriving shortly past 7pm. It stops in front of our house if you ask them to.

Private deck and beach. We have a total of 3 rooms to rent (4 bedrooms for an extra fee), by the room or you can rent the entire property. Please check my other listings if you wish to reserve just a room. Now with Wi-Fi! - Non accessible for wheelchairs and there are steps down to the house and down to the lake. - Located right on the lake, for people who want to relax in nature - Sometimes the road gets bad but 99% of the year you're ok with a normal car - Limited access to internet (500Mo a day, more than enough to browse and (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), not to stream movies or upload big files) as we don't have a landline nearby - 1 mile from basic shops, 20 miles from supermarket, bring your food if you want to cook) PROPERTY DESCRIPTION: This is a waterfront property, with 30 meters of private beach over Lake Petén Itzá. There is a small thatched house with 2 bedrooms sharing one bathroom, a kitchen and pantry, and a separate unit with a bedroom, en-suite bathroom, summer kitchen and panoramic terrace. I generally live there, so if you rent a room I will be there too. If you rent the whole property while I am traveling, there will be a gardener and a maid coming to clean and upkeep the property. This part of Lake Petén Itzá is still wild and quiet, at night you will hear hawler monkeys and frogs, you can fish, hike in the jungle, etc. We also have a chicken coop on the property. They will be there even if we are not but the handyman will feed them, so no work is required on your side. Just know they are there. The bathroom has a walk-in closet, and the shower has hot water via an electric system, meaning the water is hot but not boiling hot. This room has huge 8 sqm French door that offers a gorgeous view over the lake. This is also the room with the most privacy of the property. ROOM 2: Same as room 1, queen bed, AC, private bath, it is a bit smaller but has its own outside living area with sofa and table and hammock. ROOM 3: This is a medium room, about 12 sqm, 125 sqft, with a big wardrobe, two single beds and a bedside table. I has a partial lake view and you see the garden as well. The room has no A/C, we can provide a fan if nights are hot. All the windows are closed by mosquito nets. It is a simple, clean room with a couple of plugs too if you need to charge things. The room shares a bathroom with room 4, although it is quite unlikely that we would rent both room to different travelers, so you would either share it with your family, or have it to yourself. The bathroom has an electric shower, meaning the water is hot but not super hot. Compared to most Guatemalan showers it is above average, but quite simple by Western standards. ROOM 4: This is a small room, about 8sqm, 80sqft, with a double bed that is 140cm wide, a desk and a couple of bedside tables. It has no view, because its two windows that are mosquito nets are over the corridor that leads to room 3, so you can see partially the lake and garden but through that double mosquito net from the room’s windows and the corridor. It has weaved carpets on the ceiling to keep it fresh and is the freshest room of all, when you don’t count the A/C in room 1. It has a couple of plugs for your things, and you can store your belonging in the desk’s drawers but it does not have a formal wardrobe. Room 3 shares a bathroom with room 4, see above for description. KITCHEN: If you rent by the room, you will have access to the little house’s kitchen, with a gas oven and hob, big fridge and chest freezer. If you rent the whole property, there is also an open air kitchen on the roof of room 1 that you can use to barbecue and eat outside. PANORAMIC TERRACE: We have a nice panoramic terrace overlooking the lake, ideal to rest, there is a hammock, a bean bag, and a table big enough to sit 12 people. BEACH AND DECK: The private beach is 30 meters wide, it has a deck with a couple of hammocks, and the water is generally crystal clear, it gets a bit muddy on the rainy days. The best sunsets are from October to February. The lake is around 30 degrees/80F year round so you can swim at any time. The SpaceGucumatz Lakeside Inn is situated on the shore of beautiful Lake Petén Itzá just five kilometers from the small town of San José and seven hundred meters before reaching the village of San Pedro. The Inn has beautiful tropical gardens, eight bedrooms for guests all with private bathrooms and terrace looking out onto the gardens and lake. All are decorated in colorful Guatemalan style. There is a large sitting room with local literature and book exchange containing a superb collection of masks, handmade furniture and handicraft brought from all over the country. Adjoining this room is a games room with a table for eight people and a variety of table games. This room houses a small museum and is also suitable for meetings and/or classes. We have an open-air bar with hammock, ping-pong and table football. Guest AccessThe beach area has ample space for relaxing, reading and swimming. The water is clean, transparent and warm all year round. Kayaks are available free for the use of our guests. Interaction with GuestsWe offer a typical Guatemalan breakfast from 7.30 to 9.30 for Q40 and dinner at 19.00 for Q100. We do not provide lunch but can recommend alternative restaurants in San José for those who remain here during the day. We are available to help you organize your excursions to Tikal (41 kms), Yaxhá (55 kms) and elsewhere as well as make reservations for your onward journey to Guatemala City, Belize, Mexico or Semuc Champey. The NeighborhoodSan Pedro is our nearest village (700 mts). Inhabitants there are both Spanish speaking and Quecchí origen. The men work cultivating the land, and a few find jobs in construction or as watchmen. Very few women have jobs and most teenagers who wish to study need to help at home during the week and go to school at the weekend. It is a poor village but people are friendly and helpful and always willing to receive foreigners. The children are especially affectionate and open and love to chat or play games with visitors. If you are adventurous, staying long enough or traveling in a group, sharing your skills with the locals, specially the women and children, can be extremely rewarding (music, story-telling, games or sports, art work or needle work if you can bring the materials, are very successful. For those who are really solidary and wish to give up some of their holiday time there are larger more serious projects. For example, for a very small outlay, you and your friends or family can paint the local clinic, school or meeting hall, or help lay a concrete floor in one of the poorer homes. We have had volunteers from all walks of life and are open to and grateful for whatever aid is available. Getting AroundBuses from Santa Elena (Flores) to San Pedro leave punctually from “LA TRANCA” (the central square of the OLD market in Santa Elena) at 10 am, 12 noon, 4 pm, 5 pm and 6 pm. They will drop you off and pick you up at the door of Gucumatz Lakeside Inn. From San Pedro to Santa Elena they depart at 5.30 am, 6.30 am, 7.30 am, 11.30 am and 2.30 pm. The price to Santa Elena is Q14 and Q5 to San José (Reduced services on Sundays and holidays). There are also microbuses from “LA TRANCA” to San José about every 20 mins. And from there guests can take a tuk-tuk to Gucumatz Lakeside Inn. We are 5 kms from San José going towards San Pedro. The name Gucumatz is clearly marked on the gate. If I am in town I may be able to pick you up from the airport. If not I can book you a taxi to or from the airport for Q200. Other Things to NoteCookery classes are available in a local home for those of you who wish to try making tamales, refried black beans or the famous chicken broth and sharing the meal with the cook´s family (price Q70 plus ingredients). Horse back riding and hiking are other activities we can organize for you. Guests will have the perfect opportunity to take Spanish classes and put their existing knowledge into practice during their stay here.

On the shores of lake Petén Itzá, sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms, two with ensuite, the other two share a bath. Ideal for families and friends. Private deck and beach, free Wi-Fi. We are 40 minutes from Tikal and Flores, on the North shore of the lake. This is a waterfront property, with 30 meters of private beach over Lake Petén Itzá. There is a small thatched house with 2 bedrooms sharing one bathroom, a kitchen and pantry, and a separate unit with a bedroom, en-suite bathroom, summer kitchen and panoramic terrace. We (Pauline from France and Victor from Guatemala) generally live there, so if you rent a room we will be there too. If you rent the whole property while we are traveling, there will be a gardener and a maid coming to clean and upkeep the property. This part of Lake Petén Itzá is still wide and quiet, at night you will hear hawling monkeys and frogs, you can fish, hike in the jungle, etc. We also have a chicken coop, a couple of turkeys, ducks and geese on the property. They will be there even if we are not but the handyman will feed them, so no work is required on your side. Just know they are there. The bathroom has a walk-in closet, and the shower has hot water via an electric system, meaning the water is hot but not boiling hot. This room has huge 8 sqm French door that offers a gorgeous view over the lake. This is also the room with the most privacy of the property. ROOM 2: 150sqft This room has A/C. One queen size bed (Guatemalan queen size is a little smaller than US queen size, at 160cm), bedside tables and lots of space to store your things, desk, a dozen plugs to charge your laptops and phone. Has its own private resting hammock and sofa area Room3 This is a medium room, about 12 sqm, 125 sqft, with a big wardrobe, two single beds and a bedside table. It has no view, because its two windows that are mosquito nets are over the corridor that leads to room 2, so you can see partially the lake and garden but through that double mosquito net from the room’s windows and the corridor. It has weaved carpets on the ceiling to keep it fresh and is the freshest room of all, when you don’t count the A/C in room 1. It has a couple of plugs for your things, and you can store your belonging in the desk’s drawers but it does not have a formal wardrobe. Room 4 shares a bathroom with room 3, see above for description. KITCHEN: gas oven and hob, big fridge and chest freezer, open air kitchen on the roof of room 1 that you can use to barbecue and eat outside. GETTING THERE / AMENITIES It is better if you have your own vehicle, otherwise by public bus, there are 4 buses a day from Flores to San Pedro, or you can take a microbus hourly from Flores to San José, 6 miles away, and hire a tuktuk from there. We can book you tours to Tikal as well. Our village is small and you will find basic shops. The nearest supermarket where you will find more choice is 20 miles/30km away. We recommend you bring your food on arrival if you like to cook. INTERNET We have a wifi USB dongle that works in a limited radius but you can take it to any room. Getting around The easiest way for you to come is with your own vehicle. Sometimes during the rainy months the road is pretty bad, and a small 4WD is better, although the road usually gets fixed quickly and normal cars can use it 99% of the year.

The SpaceWe have a total of 4 rooms to rent, by the room or you can rent the entire property. Please check my other listings if you wish to reserve the whole property. Now with Wi-Fi! - Non accessible for wheelchairs and there are steps down to the house and down to the lake. - Located right on the lake, for people who want to relax in nature - Sometimes the road gets bad but 99% of the year you're ok with a normal car - Limited access to internet (500Mo a day, more than enough to browse and (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), not to stream movies or upload big files) as we don't have a landline nearby - 1 mile from basic shops, 20 miles from supermarket, bring your food if you want to cook) THIS LISTING IS FOR ROOM 4, PRIVATE DOUBLE; PRIVATE BATH WITH AC PROPERTY DESCRIPTION: This is a waterfront property, with 30 meters of private beach over Lake Petén Itzá. ROOM 4 (this room): Medium room, about 12sqm 130sqft, plus en-suite bathroom with shower. This room has A/C. One queen size bed (Guatemalan queen size is a little smaller than US queen size, at 160cm), bedside tables and lots of space to store your things, desk, and plugs to charge your laptops and phones. The bathroom has a walk-in closet, and the shower has hot water via an electric system, meaning the water is hot but not boiling hot. This room has huge 8 sqm French door that offers a gorgeous view over the lake. It has a lot of privacy as you have your own little living room area in front, with a L shaped sofa, a low table and a hammock. GETTING THERE / AMENITIES It is better if you have your own vehicle, at the moment (April 2015) the road is in good shape, it gets bad with the rains around September but safe for a few days per year you can access with a normal car. Otherwise by public bus, there are 4 buses a day from Flores to San Pedro, or you can take a microbus hourly from Flores to San José, 6 miles away, and hire a tuktuk from there. The rate is $4 for breakfast, $10 for dinner. We can prepare vegetarian meals too.

The road to get there is dirt (5 miles), usually a bit rough during rain season (Oct-Nov mainly), having your own car is easier to visit Tikal. This is a quiet place to enjoy nature, you may hear monkeys at night, restaurants are 5+ miles away and the nightlife is in Flores. PROPERTY DESCRIPTION: This is a waterfront property, with 30 meters of private beach over Lake Petén Itzá. There is a small thatched house with 2 bedrooms sharing one bathroom, a kitchen and pantry, and a separate unit with a bedroom, en-suite bathroom, summer kitchen and panoramic terrace. There will be a gardener and a maid coming to clean and upkeep the property. The bathroom has a walk-in closet, and the shower has hot water via an electric system, meaning the water is hot but not boiling hot. This room has huge 8 sqm French door that offers a gorgeous view over the lake. This is also the room with the most privacy of the property. Room 2: Room 2 is also pretty private, it has a queen bed overlooking the lake, big French doors, its private bathroom and AC. It is smaller with 12sqm /130sqft, but has its own private area in front with a sitting area, table and hammock. ROOM 3: This is a medium room, about 12 sqm, 125 sqft, with a big wardrobe, two single beds and a bedside table. I has a partial lake view and you see the garden as well. The room has no A/C, all the windows are closed by mosquito nets. It is a simple, clean room with a couple of plugs too if you need to charge things. The room shares a bathroom with room 4. The bathroom has an electric shower, meaning the water is hot but not super hot. It has weaved carpets on the ceiling to keep it fresh and is the freshest room of all. It has a couple of plugs for your things, and you can store your belonging in the desk’s drawers but it does not have a formal wardrobe. Room 4 shares a bathroom with room 3, see above for description. KITCHEN: Fully equipped, with a gas oven and hob, big fridge and chest freezer. There is also an open air kitchen on the roof of room 1 that you can use to barbecue and eat outside. PANORAMIC TERRACE: We have a nice panoramic terrace overlooking the lake, ideal to rest, there is a hammock, a bean bag, a bar and sitting area BEACH AND DECK: The private beach is 30 meters wide, it has a deck with a couple of hammocks, and the water is generally crystal clear, it gets a bit muddy on the rainy days. The best sunsets are from October to February. The lake is around 30 degrees/80F year round so you can swim at any time. GETTING THERE / AMENITIES It is better if you have your own vehicle, at the moment (Jan 2016) the road is in good shape, it gets bad with the rains around September but safe for a few days per year you can access with a normal car. Otherwise by public bus, there are 6 buses a day from Flores to San Pedro, or you can take a microbus hourly from Flores to San José, 6 miles away, and hire a tuktuk from there. It takes about 30 minutes by car to go to Flores and Tikal, 1 hour by bus to go to Flores, we can help you book a tour to Tikal but there are no public buses where we are that will take you there. You can take a bus to Flores, then to Tikal if you prefer. That’s a long day. Our village is small and you will find basic shops that sell a few fruits, vegetables, dry goods and drinks. The nearest supermarket where you will find more choice is 20 miles/30km away. We recommend you bring your food on arrival if you like to cook. MEALS We can provide meals for you as well. We can prepare vegetarian meals too. Getting around The easiest way for you to come is with your own vehicle. Sometimes during the rainy months the road is pretty bad, and a small 4WD is better, although the road usually gets fixed quickly and normal cars can use it 99% of the year.
