The SpaceThis cabin was our home, designed artistically in the shape of an octagon with lots of love in every corner. The central column in the main floor resembles a tree, created by Maya artist Ambrosio Cholotio. All tiles were hand painted in Antigua Guatemala and San Antonio Aguas Claientes. The cool breeze from the lake blends with the sunny days to give this cabin an exquisite temperature. With a big garden and private dock, it is a great place for family and friends to join the fun. Guest AccessYou can access the property by a 2 minute walk on the beach from the main dock at San Juan, through a boat to our privte dock, or by a paved road in the upper part of the property, which connects to the main town (set of stairs is considerable). The rental includes a fully equipped kitchen (stove, fridge, cooking wear, etc), hot water heater, laundry area (pila), hammocks, purified water, etc. Internet can be arranged if requested with anticipation (only for longer term rentals). If desired, cooked meals or house help can be arranged for a small fee with our former nanny Graciela, a wonderful and helpful person. Jose, our friend and house-guardian is also around to help with things you may need around the house. Interaction with GuestsCurrently we can not interact much with our guests, as we had to move to Guate City for the right schooling our kids needed. We come to San Juan on weekends and holiday, and can plan to meet with our guests if they want to. However, our long-time friends and neighbors are still around and are lovely people you'll also get to interact with. The NeighborhoodWe arrived in San Juan over 12 years ago as part of a grass-roots projet, back when it only had one paved road crossing the quiet little town. We've witnessed its beautiful development into a unique cultural destination to know more about the local Maya culture, shared by Tz'utujil people themselves! Our kids grew up learning Tz'utujil and playing with our wonderful neighbors. San Juan is full of friendly and helpful people, surrounded by luscious mountains and a clean environment...a unique experience you will certainly enjoy. We wcnourage you to visit the (URL HIDDEN) webpage to know more about this lovely town! Getting AroundIt is easy to get to and from San Juan! There are public and private tourism buses and boats every day. The easiest way to get around neighbouring towns is by tuk-tuk, or even better by walking! Other Things to NoteTHIS IS A TROPICAL SETTING, and bugs are inevitable. We have placed screens in the windows, but if you leave the windows or doors open for just a minute with the lights on, you will have hundreds of light bugs on your floor in seconds. Please also be aware that local 'alacranes' (small scorpions) inhabit the lake cose to rocks or wood piles. Some may enter the house. We clean throroughly every day, but you need to be mindful that it is a possibility you find one of these critters around the property.
We have a video in you tube showing more of the property. You can access it by typing "Cabin at San Juan La Laguna - Lake Atitlan" ( (URL HIDDEN)
