If you are looking for closeness with Reykjavík center we recommend you keep looking as it will take you 15min. to drive into Reykjavík center, and 35 - 40min. on the bus.
But if you are on the other hand looking for a place of beauty and comfort of home and amazing surroundings, not to far from Hafnarfjordur city center (3min. by car, 10min by bus and 15min. walking)
... and the capital city center, you have come to the right place.
Our home "PondGrove" is a wonderful quiet place to relax and yet to be so close to everything it takes you "no" time (10min. by car, 25-30min bus) to get to shopping malls and some 5 - 10 more minutes to center of Reykjavik.
From our back yard a pathway leads to an old road taking you to the ocean, it is not certain if this road is an old WWII escape road or not, we like to think it is. The lava fields behind the house is preserved and will not be changed by construction. They offer the opportunity for a nice picnic on a good sunny day.
Our house is located in the lava "Búrfellshraun" or "Búrfells lava" originated from the volcano "Búrfell" some 20 min drive.
Our town, Hafnarfjordur, is often referred to as the "Town in the lava", and the "Elf Town" ... with it's amazing rock formations literally in our back yard. We might even have some elf's living in some of the rocks.
We get our water from the river "Kaldá" from a well that originates near mount Búrfell. It is said by many to give our town, Hafnarfjörður, the best water you can find in Iceland, we like to believe they're correct ... and yes we drink fresh water from the tab, NO fluoride, NO chlorine. Only few hours earlier it was deep in the ground.
We live in a quiet neighborhood with a lot of free parking in the street and room for two cars in our driveway. Some 3 - 4 minutes walk gets you to a bike/walk trail that can take you all the way to the town Mosfellsbær, way on the other side of Reykjavík or some 40 - 50Km trail by the coast line a major part of the way. This trail is well worth walking or bicycling in parts, or the whole trail, as it not only takes you the coastline but through the lava-fields of Hafnarfjörður and Garðabær and through out the capital area.
