Football field is by the swimming pool (350m), playground for the kids and there is a golf course in Vík. Places of interest and distances: Víkurfjara. Only 350m to the beautiful black beach. In 1991, the US journal Islands Magazine counted this beach as one of the ten most beautiful beaches on Earth. We love it :) The famous Reynisdrangar are pictorial basalt sea stacks situated under the mountain Reynisfjall. Legend says that the stacks originated when two trolls dragged a three-master ship to land unsuccessfully and when daylight broke they turned into rock. It is fun and rather easy to walk up the mountain Reynisfjall that is just beside the village. There is a road up to the top but it is only for 4WD cars. On the top you can see relics from the Second World War and the view is fantastic where you can see Dyrhóley, Reynisdrangar, Mýrdalsjökull glazier and Eyjafjallajökull glazier. It is also easy to walk over the mountain to Reynisfjara beach. Reynisfjara beach . This is another beach just on the other side of the mountain Reynisfjall (11 km from Vík). There is a new restaurant called Svarta fjaran (The black beach). It is well worth visiting Reynisfjara beach but be careful not to go too near the sea. It is dangerous. Dyrhólaey peninsula vest of Vík 19 km. Short way but a great place. Dont go near the rim! Seljavallalaug - old swimmingpool 42 km. This is one of our favorite place in the neighborhood. Free of charge with basic changing house. Very old. No showers. You have to walk for about 15-20 minutes from the car park. A must go! Þakgil -the canyon with a roof- 21 km. Skógarfoss waterfall 33 km. On the way from Reykjavik to Vik. A very beutiful waterfall. You will see it from the main road. Skaftafell National park 140 km. Beautiful National park with forest, waterfalls, and the glacier for decoration. Here you can wonder about for a long time. Very nice. Jökulsárlón glacial lake 193 km. A bit of a drive but worth it. You can go on a boat and sail among the huge icebergs on the lake. The colors of the icebergs can be amazing. Reykjavík 186 km Other Things to NotePlease leave the house in same conditions as when you arrived. Cleaning is included in the price but please put dishes and so on in the dishwasher and start it before you go. Also clean all pots and pans and take out the rubbish.

The NeighborhoodPlease go to visitvik . is for information about the area Getting AroundVík is a very small town and therefor no public transportation within it. But everything can be reached by foot. Other Things to NotePlease note that in Vik we do not have geothermal water and therefore all hot water is heated in a big tank with electricity. Therefore you have to be mindful that if many people are taking showers then the hot water can finish. The tank is enough for short showers for everyone around the same time. But if you are taking long showers, using the hot water for washing dishes or have cranked up the heating a lot (which also uses hot water) then the tank can get empty. But it is also quite quick to refill itself. To check in you go to the reception at the Puffin Hotel Vík, located at Víkurbraut 26.

Skögarfoss: (5 minutes drive); a magnificent waterfall, one of Iceland´s biggest, with a width of 25 meters and a drop of 60 meters. Stairs lead to the top of the fall, where, often, you´ll see single or double rainbows. Nearby, you can eat at the Skögar Bistro (they serve excellent coffees and fish!). 2. Seljalandsfoss: (10-15 minute drive); famous for its smooth, almost unbending cascades, Seljalandsfoss is one of Suðurland´s gems. You can awe at its falling from the front, or (unique to Iceland) you can hike behind it. 3. Kvernufoss: one of the more hidden (and less touristy) waterfalls in Iceland, Kvernufoss is close to Skögarfoss, but off the beaten path. A good hiking guide to the falls can be found here: (URL HIDDEN) [MOUNTAINS} 1. Eyjafjallajökull: in 2010, this volcano made news when it erupted, causing chaos for northern Europe´s airplanes. You can definitely see it from my house (I have a golden view of it, especially in the evening, as the sun sets behind it). If you really like adventure, you could summit it in one day. Typically, the hike takes 8 - 10 hours. My house is the perfect end to a day of hiking Eyjafjallajökull. You could bring your own equipment, or rent equipment from nearby hiking services. You could also book a guided tour, which run from 30,000 to 40,000 kronur. [MUSEUMS] 1. Eyjafjallajökull: At this museum, you can watch a film about the volcano´s eruption and its effects on the farmers. There is a gift shop, as well. Hours: 1 May - 31 May: 10:00 - 16:00 1 June - 31 August: 9:00 - 18:00 1 September - 30 September: 10:00 - 16:00 1 October - 30 April: 11:00 - 16:00 2. Skogar Folk Museum (Skogasafn) : Learn how Icelanders lived in turf houses and worked at this museum of Icelandic inhabitants´ history. Hours: May AND September: 10:00 - 17:00 June, July, August: 9:00 - 18:00 October to April: 11:00 - 16:00 3. Byggðasafn: Thousands of native items, many contributed by locals, tools and furnishings that tell of Iceland´s past. Hours: June 1 - Sept 1: 11:00 - 18:00 [ISLANDS] 1. Vestmannaeyjar: Beautiful islands that housed the famous 1973 volcano eruption. The harbor, Landeyjahöfn, is less than 30 minutes from my house. The ferry to Vestmannaeyjar (Westman Islands) takes about 30 minutes. [SWIMMING POOLS] 1. Seljavallalaug: One of Iceland´s oldest swimming pools (circa 1923); the pool is about a 5 minute drive from my house. And these are just the things around my house. Iceland has plenty to see! Getting AroundIcelanders joke that we only have one road. And, honestly, we do: highway 1. I live right off highway 1. It´s quite easy to get around here. And if you know your destinations, I´ll certainly help you get there. Other Things to NoteBreakfast is included in the price. That´s right. Free breakfast. I do have two dogs and one cat, BUT they are always outside, never inside.

Due to the amount of spray the waterfall consistently produces, a single or double rainbow is normally visible on sunny days. Generally the hike lasts four days. Kvernufoss: hidden gem in Skógar area Dyrhólaey About 40 minutes drive. Dyrhólaey it´s a small peninsula or promontory but is a former island. It´s possible to drive up to it on a regular car and then hike to the top of the hill, the elevation is only 123 meters, a trip worth doing. The birdlife is very rich, especially early spring and fall when the migrant birds flock to the wetlands the region is named for. Reynisfjara, the beach between Reynifjall and Dyrhólaey is a very popular destination. The cliffs Reynisdrangar are to the east and Dyrhólaey to the west. The surf is magnificent but dangerous, never turn your back on the incoming surf as it is not regular and waves can reach far ashore. Never leave children unattended there. After an outing in Reynisfjara a visit to the Black beach restaurant by the beach, is lovely, to enjoy refreshments and the view. They also have free wifi access if you need.
