The SpaceThe Foothill Camp is ideal if you are a group of friends who have a love for the outdoors. This intimate campsite is located in a fruit orchard next to our home. 6 "Coleman" tents of various sizes with comfortable single beds, clean sheets, soap and running hot water are put up for a delightful stay. Delicious home cooked food is served with a large local spread for dinner - call it camping with a Coorgi touch.
For outdoor/fitness enthusiasts the Foothill Camp offers a unique opportunity to explore Coorg through cycling. You could be an expert cyclist already and looking to try out exciting new terrains or just a curious newbie, cycling is really for everyone. The pristine routes we take you on will introduce you to a Coorg most tourists never see.
Here's what you can expect when you book this stay (for 8 ppl at 2000 per head) :
- High quality, weather protected, private tent home on a sharing basis. We have 6 Coleman tents of various sizes with comfortable mattresses. Breakfast and a large local dinner spread is included as well.
- Access to high quality geared cycles for trips that we will head out on
- An intro session on bicycle maintenance and general riding tips / knowledge of the terrain here.
- 2 rides that I will personally lead you on. One will be a short ride, a detour for about an hour, where you can get accustomed to the terrain. The other will be a longer ride of about 3-4 hours
We will select the routes based on your interests, fitness levels and the weather conditions on the day of the ride. We have a great selection of routes that either take you to sought after places like the Tibetan Golden Temple or the Dubare camp or we could take lesser known routes through the countryside..
Each riding experience is different depending on the route we take and also time of the ride. Early morning rides are great for bird spotting and watching the sleepy villages wake up, evenings are ideal for sunset visits.
**Pedals and brews - the Coorg coffee tour**
As an optional activity, you can join us on the Pedals and Brews, a cycling tour with a journey of coffee theme. On this 20-25 kms ride we will take you to two coffee estates where you will interact with experienced planters. One of these is a budding estate with 2-3 year old crops, the other is a mature estate with 10 year old crops. The interactions at the estate will familiarize you with everything coffee, including the best way to prepare and drink it. You will also visit a processing unit (not available on sundays) during this tour . Guest AccessGuest are welcome to walk through the gardens and explore the property. There are bicycles that guests can borrow, we request you to ride safe and treat the cycles with care. Interaction with GuestsHosts live in the main house near the tents and will help with settling in and are available to answer any questions. Hosts work in Kushalnagar town, so are generally not present during the working day. House staff work between 8:30am and 9:30pm, and can also offer assistance when needed. The NeighborhoodWe live in the wilderness just 3kms away from the town which is completely secluded with no other houses around. But a couple of resorts at the end of the road.
We are just 3 km from bus stand, the famous Golden temple and Cauvery Nisargadhama just 6.5 km away (tourist attraction), and all major restaurants and shopping areas are within 3 km and easily accessible. Harangi Dam is at a distance of 5 km, and all major destinations are within 45 km radius. Getting AroundThere is convenient public transit as we are situated just 3 km from bus stand. We will also arrange taxi pick-up and drop from our place. Kushalnagar is well connected by road. To get around locally there are autorickshaws and cabs available. Other Things to NoteThis is a campsite where our theme is "travel back in time"
We provide basic comforts but service is limited as we are a homestay. You might come across the occasional bug or insect, they are usually harmless. There are mosquitoes around during rains but keep the tent closed (the tents have netted windows that you can open) and carry a repellent and you should be fine.
The campsite doesn't have electricity, we will give you lamps for your tent and all pathways are lit at night.
There are common bathrooms/toilets on each side of the camp with running hot water.
