The SpaceAs such this is one of Clifden’s listed buildings and many of the original features remain, including the large stone fireplace, the exposed stone walls, old pine floors, doors and the original pine staircase. The ground floor’s open plan allows one to take in the scope of the public rooms upon first crossing over the threshold. The atmosphere is very comfortable and casual. In the sitting room, large stone arched palladium windows allow plenty of light and the fireplace adds visual and actual warmth. This is a perfect room for entertaining or just sitting quietly with a book. There is a TV and DVD player. The galley kitchen is to the right of the entryway and although not huge, it is a cook’s kitchen with everything close at hand and equipped with all you should need. Other Things to NoteOur house was built c1880, and retains a lot of the features of a house of this age. Original internal doors, fire place in the siting room, and dresser in the kitchen . As it is over 135 years old, it does not have the smooth lines and finish of a new and modern house. The house has been designated a Listed Building "The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage " Description End of terrace two-bay two-storey house, built c.1880, having three-bay side elevation and flat-roofed porch. Flat roof and gutters concealed behind parapet with moulded rendered architrave and cornice decoration, rendered chimneystacks, and cast-iron down pipes. Painted rendered walls with rendered plinth and having rendered sill-band to first floor, and raised render quoins. Square-headed window openings having painted stone sills, raised rendered surrounds and some two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows and some replacement uPVC windows. Porches have moulded cornices and square-headed windows with render kneed and shouldered surrounds, and timber battened door with limestone step. Rubble stone enclosing wall to rear, having cut-stone quoins and concrete coping, with square-headed entrance to yard. Appraisal This house forms part of a terrace of former coastguard houses standing close to the seafront. The render details, particular in the quoins and window surrounds, makes them a landmark in the harbour area of the town and the retention of timber sliding sash windows enhances this house.
