The SpaceContemporary and retro items collide with the traditional features and the house is fully equipped with all modern conveniences, (a stones throw from the local supermarket too!) Guest Access** 2017 UPDATES ** FOR PROSPECTIVE GUESTS PLEASE NOTE THAT IN SPRING 2017 O'HERLIHYS TOWNHOUSE WILL OPERATE AS A CAFE DOWNSTAIRS, WE STILL INTEND TO LET THE UPSTAIRS SECTION OF THE HOUSE, BEDROOMS/PARLOUR AND TEA/COFFEE FACILITIES. THANKS! Guests have 3 bedrooms centrally located in the heart of Kinsale. The house also has a comfortable parlour in which guests can relax and watch television or listen to music. Interaction with GuestsI look forward to meeting and introducing guests to the sights, sounds and tastes of Kinsale, then promptly leaving them to their own devices until we say our goodbyes! The NeighborhoodKinsale is a historic and fiercely picturesque town with a reputation for good food and outdoor pursuits, from golf to sailing to permaculture. The Glen, where O'Herlihys is situated was once a waterway, indeed an old lighthouse was once behind where the house now stands on the 'back Glen'. Getting AroundYou are on the 'flat of the town' (as locals like to say). This means despite the beautiful hilliness and undulating narrow streets of Kinsale you are not out of breath getting back to your bed! Other Things to NoteThe townhouse can sleep 9 at a maximum though ideally no more than 7 adults, smaller beings take less space so children and families are encouraged. At the times of the year when 3 night minimum bookings are fewer O'Herlihys will operate as a guesthouse doing bed and breakfast. Rates for this may vary. Do contact to find out!

The SpaceThis beautiful holiday home offers luxurious and spacious self-catering accommodation in the centre of Kinsale for up to thirteen people. This accommodation for so many guests does not mean that there is less room or comfort for more people to share; rather, the house includes all the best aspects of a comfortable holiday : There are three shower rooms, one with a bath if that’s your preference; there is ample space to relax too, with two large living rooms, both comfortably furnished and equipped; and perhaps the greatest benefit to any large group taking full advantage of the house is the additional kitchen. This ground floor kitchen has a little courtyard that is a real sun-trap on summer afternoons and which also leads, by steps, up to the main garden behind. There are other advantages of having a large house available during your let. Maybe you are two or even three families sharing, who get on well but need some separate space. The ground floor feels very much like an apartment within the house, while not feeling separated from it. It is self-contained, and with the small courtyard off the kitchen, even the garden is at the same level. The house is conveniently located only five minute's walk from the town centre. A small beach at Castlepark is ten minute's drive away. There is another, much larger, beach at Garrettstown (12.5 km away). Kinsale is famous for its gourmet restaurants, traditional music in its pubs and its many historic sites. Important heritage sites include Charles Fort and the Old Court House and Museum. The coastline boasts stunning rock formations, making this a hotspot for rock enthusiasts and photographers too. Compass Hill House is the ideal base for a large group or families from where to explore this part of county Cork. There are lots of activities for all to be entertained - from golf at the world famous Old Head Golf Club to surfing, sailing, fishing and other outdoor activities. If you have time, you can put your feet up; relax and watch the to-ing and fro-ing of the harbour. Compass Hill House is owned by an Artist and a Geologist. Their respective interests and careers are reflected throughout the house; from the sea shells found on exotic shores around the world, to the eclectic collection of art works. We hope that you will find this house a wonderful adventure in itself. Guest AccessIf a door or a cupboard cannot be opened easily, it is not intended that you do so; These spaces are private or are storage for the housekeeper. Please respect them. Interaction with GuestsYou will be sent key instructions and a house manual via email a week before your arrival. We like to know that our guests have received them, so please reply to that email. Other than that, you are at liberty to enjoy self catering in such a spacious house. We are available on the phone for urgent situations. Other Things to NoteThis is an OLD house; 230+ years old in fact. If you visit in the cooler months of the year, be prepared to dress according to the season. There are night storage heaters; portable, on-demand radiators; and two stoves to make the house warm.

The SpaceAI would like to share my large, modern, happy and comfortable home with visitors to Kinsale, one of the most beautiful spots on earth and first stop on Ireland's magnificent Wild Atlantic Way. You can choose the Bill Doyle room or the John Minihan room (see separate listing) - both are spacious, en-suite double rooms. The shower is equipped with soap, shampoo, and hair dryer. The rooms are named in honour of two well known Irish photographers, the late Bill Doyle and John Minihan, with whom I have worked and whose pictures decorate the walls. Breakfast is not included but Kinsale has many wonderful cafes serving full Irish and continental breakfasts. I do supply tea and coffee making facilities in the room. I live here with Merlo, my handsome little dog. Kinsale is a beautiful harbour town packed full of exciting bars, pubs, restaurants, cafes, galleries and shops. Food is delicious. People are even better! You won't find a friendlier welcome anywhere in Ireland.
