The SpaceI returned home to Jamaica after twenty years travelling the world, to renovate this unique, 200 year old, historic, plantation villa, known as 'New England'.
Of all the places I have lived, this is the home I constantly return to...
This listing is for a private wing two bedroom apartment on the first floor, with 2 en suites, kitchen, dining room and open plan living, room with access to a private entrance and veranda - sleeps four in two double beds, plus sofa bed available, which sleeps an additional two people.
If you would like more space, the whole property is also available for rental under the listing 'Traditional Secluded Seaview Hilltop Plantation'. Please click on my photograph and then select this to see additional photos of the space, which can sleep 8. If you have a smaller budget, please click on my photo and then select the listing 'Stylish, Private Self Contained Poolside Apartment' to see the self contained one bedroom apartment downstairs.
Nestled at the top of a lush hill, with a pool looking out across the Caribbean sea, this colonial property, on Jamaica's North coast is the very definition of paradise...
Located just above St Ann's Bay, its hilltop breezes can be exchanged for the bustle of Ocho Rios, the natural beauty of Dunns River Falls, the adrenaline rush of Mystic Mountain, or the awe of Dolphin Cove; all less than 15 minutes drive away.
The house is Georgian, so is very characterful, with original wood and tile floors; and beautiful wooden fretwork in the doorways. It benefits from private grounds and private swimming pool for your exclusive use, with cabana and pool shower room. There is parking for multiple cars, and a secure, gated entry system. There is a Groundsman who lives on the property.
The property is almost 200 years old, and as such has no central air-conditioning and details which are beautifully worn and unique. The house is designed so that the living and bedrooms benefit from natural hill and sea breezes, due to the property's elevated position. All the rooms are large and open, with windows (with all important mosquito nets (!), and security shutters) designed to capture the breeze, and all have ceiling fans. Nature's own air conditioning!
I'm an Ambassador to the 'Meet the People Program' and have personal connections wherever you may wish to go, to experience the real Jamaica: from personal Estate Tours at High Hope Estate, to river rafting in the hills above Montego Bay, or James Bond's Blue Lagoon in Port Antonio. I would also be happy to arrange for a driver to pick you up at the airport (Montego Bay), and for a cook and/or housekeeper and/or driver, at any stage during your stay.
There is no minimum length of booking, and a rental of a few months, or even a year, would give me a welcome opportunity to do some adventuring of my own; so there is always flexibility for extended stays. Feel free to drop me an email with your plans and I will do my best to work with you.
Treat yourself to our famous hospitality, waking up to the gentle buzz of humming birds and the cooling breeze rustling in the trees: come 'home' to Jamaica... Guest AccessPlease treat the home as you would your own: areas that are private will be obvious - i.e. sections of the wardrobe; but otherwise please relax, enjoy and help yourself to whatever you need! Interaction with GuestsIf I am on the island at the time of your visit, I can be available as you wish; and will welcome you at the property. If I am not around, the housekeeper, or my daughter will be able to be there to welcome you. I am always available by email to share tips and ideas to make your visit special. The NeighborhoodThe winding country road into the hills, passing small self built houses, children playing, with the sounds of music or dominoes, will lead you to 'New England' your home away from home...
What do I love most about my neighbourhood? Simple: the views! And the people. In interchangeable order!
St Ann’s Bay is well situated for access to the beach, spa, restaurants, shops, markets, and local attractions such as Dunns River Falls, Dolphin Cove and Ocho Rios. Getting AroundI'd be happy to help organise a pick up/drop off from the airport for you; and also to put you in touch with a local taxi driver. In St Ann's Bay there is a taxi rank in the central square, so a taxi is never more than 10 minutes away; and the Jamaican way is that you can have a taxi with you for the whole day, to take you around or meet you at the beach. I can also help arrange a small bus if you have a larger party. It is also walkable from New England into St Anns Bay; but as it's at the top of a hill; you may prefer to get a taxi back!
