The SpaceThis space is in the centre of Hamamatsu's creative district. It has one double bed 140x210cm in an open loft and a sofa bed in a separate area. Designed by local architects and built by a temple carpenter its sheer beauty is enough to want to stay in the room. In true Japanese sense it defies all that's come before it.
The room sits on an intersection with the city at your feet, restaurants and shops under your nose and cultural highlights only a stroll away.
There is no running water or toilet in the room, just outside in the hallway is the toilet and there is a toilet in each floor for you to use. The sink and vanity is also just outside the room are rarely used by the other business hour tenant.
*PLEASE NOTE the shower is in a serparate building a short 3minutes walk, it may sound off putting at first but the facilities are large and clean and you don't need to take any amenities with you, towels, shampoo & conditioner shaver, toothbrush toothpaste are all catered for. As well as that, it's housed in a Manga library where you can have a free drink as a special guest, only we have exclusive non member use of this facility. This modern complex is a truly unique part of Japanese culture that we believe is a perfect fit for your experience and something that few foreigners are exposed to, but our guests tend to be blown away by.
Hamamatsu flies well under the radar of any tourist book on Japan and that's what makes it so special, here you will only experience genuine Japanese style in a building that itself gives inspiration to your senses. Guest AccessAccess is a simple one minute taxi or 5 minute stroll from the station - on the main Shinkansen line between Tokyo and Osaka.
The room is on the 4th floor and only accessible by stairs, so I'm sorry to say it's not wheelchair friendly. Interaction with GuestsThe space is yours to enjoy as you like, it's meant to be a space you can just hang out and relax in. I would like to introduce you to the community around you though. The room is part of a building with shops and studios that have a very neighbourly feel. If you have any questions we would be happy to assist. The place is the only place to sleep in a commercial building, you have tiny bars, antique shops and bookstores under you while you are at the intersection to the city. Get out and explore. The NeighborhoodThe room you will be staying in is affectionately know as "Kagiya Room" it's the only room available to stay in the building at the moment and is an extension of the creative and neighbourly tenants within the building. On the first floor there is a mens and ladies retail shop, NewShop our made in Japan product/gift shop where you will only find local and Japan sourced goods, the second floor has a cafe and bar, Violet a vintage collection of French kitchen ware as well as the renowned Book&Prints bookstore. The third floor has Antico, a european sourced vintage Zakka and Bar 23 a private dining bar to sip the wee hours away in with a local. Hamamatsu castle and its grounds are within walking distance, as are ninja star throwing centre and a gallery with modest exhibitions. The area is the home of Suzuki, Yamaha and Yamaha music museum plus its flagship store. For those after a more modern affair there are Karaoke places surrounding you, electronic shops and arcades. For the foodies, Shizuoka is a food bowl for Japan and especially Tokyo with some of the best vegetable, fruit, fish and Sake producers, Tokyoites and visitors from Asia come here for the seafood and local produce. Getting AroundThere are buses that go everywhere at the front door of the building an a bike is provided so you can get around town easily. The main Shinkansen line is a five minute walk away. Other Things to NoteThe room is built with your comfort in mind. It's meant as a place to just 'be' in. There is a wide selection of English and Japanese design material to read, a bluetooth speaker so you can relax to your own music from your bluetooth enabled device. We supply cereal on request and hope you can just enjoy the space as much as we do. Sometimes there are workshops, events and talkshows held in the gallery down the hall and they can add to your experience, if your stay coincides with one.
