The SpaceArita is the birthplace of porcelain in Japan. It has been producing porcelain for about four hundred years. It's in Kyushu in south-western Japan about one hour from Nagasaki. There are about two hundred kilns and artists working in the town.
The Happy Lucky Site is a Residency Studio inside a Porcelain Factory, the Kou Raku Kiln which is almost a hundred and fifty years old. So it is the best place for those interested not only in make a tour around Arita but also to experiment doing some work using the porcelain clay as well all the facilities of one real Japanese factory while in Town. The Double Room is located at our dormitory building, it is suitable for until 4 guests.
About the accommodation:
You will stay in a residence next to the studio.
A kitchen, a bathroom, a toilet, a washing machine, a fridge and a dining space will be shared.
The internet connection is available in your room and lounge
There maybe apprentice potters residing in other rooms.
(URL HIDDEN) Guest AccessThe Guest Room building is just 2 minutes walking from the Porcelain Factory Kou Raku Gama which means Happy Lucky in Japanese language. It is a two floor building with a main door, the rooms, kitchen, bathroom, toilets and lounge are in the first floor, the Kou Raku Gama Director lives in the second floor. Guests will have their key to go out and in any time he wants to. Interaction with GuestsGuests can visit the factory to follow all the process of Arita Ware production. As we have space for rent during all the year for Artists in Resiency in our studio it also cam be available for short stay guests is just inform us before what is your interest in, and we will be glad in help.
We can provide workshop about porcelain hand built, throwing, slip casting, under glaze and over glaze decoration. If guests are interesting in other expression of Japanese Couture let us know so we also can try arranging a workshop in your interest area The NeighborhoodAround the Residency:
The residency is surrounded by beautiful mountains and forests. Clear streams run through the back streets between traditional houses and ceramic factories. We are about a twenty minute walk from Arita Railway Station. There are many factories, studios and stores nearby
We have three supermarkets about tem minutes walk.
Getting AroundIn Arita we have only one Bus Line, it is a Community Bus and is very convenient for Guests in our Art Residency as we have one bus stop about 2 blocks from our place.
We have partnership with Arita`s Taxi co. and also aways have taxi stoped in front of Arita Station.
Rent Bicycle is available in Arita Station
