Welcome to a genuine traditional geisha house near the Golden Pavilion This house is located in a geisha district called Kamishichiken. This house was formerly used for teaching the Shamisen to geisha. There are two tatami rooms on the second floor. Up to six people can stay there. The first floor includes a living room as well as a kitchenette and a bathroom. In the living room, one can enjoy the changing seasons through an attached garden. The house also features nightlife within easy walking distance; there are a number of traditional Japanese restaurants and bars in the area. It is also within walking distance from the Golden Pavilion, and only thirty minutes from the Arashiyama area. Also close by, Kitano-Tenmangu Shrine features a famous open air market once a month. Kyoto is home to hundreds of historical sites, including seventeen UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In particular, Kyoto is the perfect destination for anyone with an interest in Buddhism or Shinto. Kyoto is also a very safe city. I hope you will enjoy all that Kyoto has to offer. I look forward to hearing from you.

**Special rate for Jan & Feb** Welcome to Kyoto! My cozy private apartment is located in the center of Kyoto and very convenient. It is only 4 minutes walk to two train stations, Omiya (Hankyu Kyoto line) and Shijo Omiya station. It is only 2 stops from Omiya station to Kawaramachi where you can easily walk to Gion & Higashiyama area to see old Kyoto in the eastern district. The train also takes you straight to Osaka (Umeda station). Near my apartment, there are also frequent buses available and they are going to the most of popular places in Kyoto. Both Nijo Castle (World Heritage listed) and Nishiki food market (the best spot to find a Kyoto delicacy) are within walking distance and about 20 minutes on foot. Arashiyama, historical western district of Kyoto, is easy accessny must visit places in Kyoto but Arashiyama is my favorite place. I personally recommend spending a good full day there. For example, World Heritage listed Tenryuji temple has a really lovely Japanese garden and an amazing dragon painting. The famous bamboo forest and Okochi Sanso Villa with tea tasting experience cannot also be missed. There are a plenty of little cafe, shops and restaurants and you may find your own hidden places. If you prefer to travel by bike, there is a rental cycle nearby with good value. So the location is perfect! With my love of Kyoto knowing many hidden places, it is too hard to tell you everything now. Please drop me a line with your interest. My apartment is small, about 15 square meters but it is a standard Japanese studio room size and has almost everything you need, such as small kitchenette with cookware, plates, bowls and cups, kettle, microwave-oven, small fridge and hair dryer. Two folding beds with futon, linen and towels are also provided. Please note that the bathroom is small for Western standard but shampoo, conditioner and body soap are provided. Wifi is available. Coin laundry (washer and dryer) is in the apartment building. Our neighborhood is quiet and safe. There is a variety of restaurants nearby. I'd love to recommend nice and reasonable Izakaya, Ramen (soup noodle), Yakitori (grilled skewed chicken), Bento (boxed lunch/dinner), other style of Japanese restaurants, Chinese, Korean BBQ restaurants and much more. If you wish, I'm happy to book a table for you :-) There are 7/11s, Fresco grocery shop, liquor shop, fast food shops, book store and post office in walking distance. Hope you have comfortable stay at my apartment!

The outlet of a major national chain is a beautiful Japanese-style hotel with a brilliant touch. Its excellence in mixing contemporary and traditional taste in design is highly appreciated and brought two related awards (Kyoto Scenic Beauty Award, Building Contractors Society Award Japan) to the hotel. The hotel is suitable for travellers who would like to enjoy traditional Japanese ambience inside and outside their accommodation, yet with modern facilities within reach. (0310YY) Location The hotel, a winner of the Kyoto Scenic Beauty Award, is located in the city centre of Kyoto, just behind Nishi-Honganji temple. It is 5 minutes by car or 10 minutes by bus from Kyoto station. All major tourist attractions of Kyoto are easily accessible by foot or by public transportation. The nearest metro station, Gojo, is less than 10 minutes' walking distance. It is 15 minutes walk to Shijo-Omiya station which trains bound for Arashiyama depart from. A stroll around the hotel can take you back to a bygone era, as there are some traditional style buildings in the area. The shuttle bus service is available between JR Kyoto Station (Hachijo-guchi exit) and the hotel from April 01,10. Distance 2 kms to city centre 80 kms to the airport (kansai international airport) 35 kms to the airport (osaka international airport) 7 minute walk to the nearest metro station (gojo) 1 km to the nearest station (jr kyoto) 3 minute walk to the nearest bus stop 8 km to the nearest fair site (kyoto intl conference hall) Rooms The hotel boasts some of the most spacious rooms in the city. The color scheme of creamy white and brown wood tones creates comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Although all facilities are modern, following a recent renovation, colors and pattern of fabric, grid of windows, sliding sunshade door and lighting evoke an ancient Japanese interior. All amenities expected for a 4-star hotel are provided. The bathrooms are clean and kept in good condition. Restaurant There are three restaurants available in the hotel. The main dining room is open throughout a day and provides a buffet breakfast, along with French and Japanese meals for lunch and dinner. There is a small bar counter and lounge in the restaurant. The restaurant occupies large space in the shape of L or two big rooms bordering at a right angle surrounding the courtyard where dinners are able to find artificial waterfall and bamboo trees. The buffet breakfast includes Japanese local dishes and local specialties as well as typical Western style breakfast such as bread, scrambled egg. The Japanese restaurant is a branch of an established restaurant chain that has almost 80 years of history and is known for local traditional cuisine of Kyoto. In the space surrounded by shoji (Japanese traditional sliding doors) partitions and flames, a finely presented authentic meal of Kyoto cuisine is delight for any guest. The Chinese restaurant provides dishes that come from four different major regions of Chinese cuisine and ones that are fusions with Japanese or Western cuisine. Exterior The hotel is a brown modern-looking building. It looks small from the outside, but it is actually quite spacious. Due to laws for scenic reserve in the old town, buildings cannot be over a certain height, so the hotel built two floors underground to make for more rooms above the ground level. Lobby The lobby is on the underground floor, after going down from the main entrance. A beautiful view of a Japanese garden and waterfall makes for a very peaceful setting. The lounge and restaurants are on the same floor. There are personal computers for internet access operated with coins on the lobby floor.

The SpaceKyoto home stay independent. Travelers to Kyoto can easily spend a week visiting the city’s historical attractions such as the Kyoto Imperial Palace, (京都御所)Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion 金閣寺) which is world heritage of UNESCO and Sanjusangendo. (三十三間堂)All sections of the city contain more than one locale well worth a thorough visit, Notably, some of Japan’s oldest traditions, such as the tea ceremony, flower arranging, and geisha schooling originated in the city. These ancient customs, while still practiced throughout Japan, can only be observed in their original setting in Kyoto. Maybe it takes about 5 days to visit important sightseeing spots. Maiko are usually aged 15 to 20 years old and become geisha after learning how to dance (a kind of Japanese traditional dance), play the shamisen, and learning Kyō-kotoba (dialect of Kyoto), regardless of their origins. In a Ryokan, get more out of the basic necessities in life; food, shelter and clothing. An experience different from the common hotel. The SpaceThe Arashiyama Hanare was registered as a ''Important Cultural Properties of Kyoto'' on 2013 . The Arashiyama Hanare is a traditional Japanese 'Machiya' is located in scenic Arashiyama, on the west side of Kyoto. The train station (JR Saga Arashiyama Station) is from there it's 10-15 minutes to Kyoto Station. Arashiyama is a popular tourist destination in Kyoto, with it's beautiful scenery, the Hozu and Katsura Rivers with it's romantic 'Moon-Crossing Bridge' (8 minute walk),the bamboo grove and the Monkey Park. The UNESCO World Heritage listed Tenryuji Temple is an 8 minute walk away. Other temples are such as Daikakuji temple(It was the villeage for the emperor), Seiryoji temple, Adashino Nenbutsuji temple, Jojakkoji temple, Nisonin temple and Rokuoin temple etc, which are possible to visit from the Arashiyama Hanare by walk. Other sights are very easily reached by the Randen line train, such as Ninnaji Temple, Ryoanji Temple, Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion) and Saihoji (Moss Temple.) Other nearby tourist attractions include the Saga 'Romantic Train' old-fashioned diesel train which winds through the hills, as well as boat rental and white-water rafting, not to mention hiking, all located nearby. Out side of Kyoto, it is very easy to access other popular tourist spots such as Nara, Uji, Osaka, Himeji, Hiroshima etc by JR train since the JR train station (JR Saga Arashiyama Station) is five minutes walk away. A natural 'onsen' hot spring (entrance fee just ¥1000) is just a 15 minute walk away. The Arashiyama Hanare was built on before 1935, and was completely restored in Novemb(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). The restoration was a labor of love, requiring the participation of artisans specializing in traditional carpentry techniques, and using natural materials in all areas both inside and out. Great efforts were made to recreate an atmosphere which will allow guests to experience the traditional way of living. An added modern touch for comfort is the luxurious bathing area and bathroom...where you can soak in the oversized tub while gazing at the Zen garden, after a full day of sightseeing. The Arashiyama Hanare is just behind the main house, but has an independent entrance and accommodation are completely separated. The total space is 55 square meters. Near the entrance is the original old Japanese style kitchen which has basic facilities for cooking. The floor of the kitchen is made of 'tataki,' a traditional mixture of 'shikkui' and soil. There are two tatami rooms, one 3 mats, and the other 6 mats. Two to three guests can be accommodated on futons, which can be placed on the floor of either room. The Arashiyama Hanare shares a 'Zen garden' called Nakaniwa, with the main house. The owners live in the main house. Owners speak English, and are happy to provide assistance during the stay. One of the owners is an 'Ikebana' master, and flower arrangements will welcome guests upon arrival. There's easy access to all of the sightseeing spots in central Kyoto. The train station (JR Saga Arashiyama Station) is five minutes walk away, and from there it's 10-15 minutes to Kyoto Station. Another train station 'Randen Saga' is three minutes walk away. The neighborhood are the several shops, cafes, local restaurants, the convenience and grocery stores. The Arashiyama Hanare offers an opportunity to experience Kyoto life in a very special part of the city, living in a typical Kyoto silent neighborhood. In the days when the ancient capital was located in Nara, Arashiyama was known as a pleasure resort for the Emperor and his court people. Since then, it has always attracted people with it's scenic beauty and seasonal colors, particularly the cherry blossoms of the Spring, and the changing leaves of the Autumn. You can spend your personal time in this space where the Arashiyama Hanare is intimate. Other Things to NotePlease ask to me if we don't have availability for our minimum days in a row, I will accept under minimum in this case.

The SpaceCentral Kyoto Traditional townhouse that has been kept in great shape and in it's original character. The house is a 2 story Nagaya, which is a Kyoto style townhouse. The guest room is one of the largest in the house, with windows that open to a view of the garden and pond. There is a shower and bath as well as a western style toilet, both of which are outside and shared with me , who lives in the house. The location here is arguably the best in Kyoto. The house is conveniently located just around the corner from Demachiyanagi Station, where you can catch a train down to Sanjo shopping district, Gion Shijo district, Gojo Kyomizu temple, Shichijo Sanjusangendo temple, Tofukuji (where you can change trains and go to Kyoto station or Nara), Fushimi Inari Shrine and all the way down to Osaka. Or take the Eiden railway going north up to Kurama in the mountains where there is a very nice onsen (hot spring) and a nice hike up into the mountain where there is a temple and shrine. Also around the corner from the house there are buses that can take you pretty much anywhere in Kyoto. And the house is only a few hundred yards from the Kamo River, a 24 hour convenience store, and about 5-10 minute walk to the Imperial Palace, World Heritage Shimo Gamo Shrine and the Demachi shopping arcade. Also right next to Demachiyanagi station is a good bicycle rental shop, a taxi stand, a Post Office, Restaurants, cafes, and a Drug store. If you're interested in staying in a beautiful, historic Kyoto house and meeting some interesting people living in Kyoto then this is the place for you. Interaction with my guests is the joy of being a host so I hope to have some interesting conversations! And you can use the opportunity to practice your English. there are some great restaurants and cafés less than a 5 min walk- Japanese soul food, ramen, Italian , French, Spanish, falafel, Indian Also there's a great bakery around the corner. There's a covered outdoor shopping street with grocery stores and various types of restaurants and shops, including a famous local traditional Japanese sweets shop just across the river. If you are up for experiencing Japanese public bath culture then there is a very good sento(public bath) just down the street. And if you are interested to try some different public baths around town please ask for some recommendations. A 5 min walk to the railway will give you some options to explore the northern part of Kyoto. You can take the train to the village of Kibune and walk the river to the village center where you'll find little cafés and restaurants and a path to climb up the mysterious and sacred Kurama mountain. Along that path you'll run into shrines and temples on your way over the mountain to the village of Kurama. And when you arrive there(takes about an hour) highly recommend a soak in the outdoor hot spring(onsen). It's a part of kyoto you'll remember! Also, you can go to mount Hiezan. You have the option of hiking to the top or taking the cable car. On top is a famous temple and beautiful view of kyoto. Japanese calligraphy and cooking classes are available. To Bathe (We of course have a bathtub and shower as well.) Funaoka Onsen: The most famous public bath house in Kyoto and registered as a type of cultural heritage site. Our home has a large kitchen that is fully equipped with a variety of cooking implements, plates, utensils, mugs, glasses, etc. We have a lovely Japanese style bathing area, which includes both a furo (bath tub) and shower. The house has a good-sized common space on the first floor for eating and lounging, with many books for your perusal on a variety of subjects (we are both avid readers). Your room is usually our meditation/yoga space. It has a wood floor, and two large glass sliding doors facing the south. On sunny days this room receives generous amounts of sunlight. This room is 7.22 meters square (6 tatami mats) in size. It is big enough for two to comfortably sleep in. With two futons laid down, there is still a bit of space for a small coffee table we provide, as well as a couple of cushions to sit on a modest storage container for clothes and plenty of hangars as well. There is a backyard space, which is where the clothes washer is located. In Japan when drying clothes most people hang clothes outside. There is a small concrete patio with a good-sized simple pole construction to hang your clothes on. Lots of hangars and clips for your use. Guest AccessYou will have access to wi-fi, plenty of books and the washer and drying area. The kitchen has a gas range with two good-sized burners, a microwave, a toaster oven, a large refrigerator, an oven and a blender. There is also an extensive variety of cookbooks in English (and a few in Japanese and Italian). For your bathing convenience, we provide bath towels (which may also be taken to Funaoka Onsen), shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer and body soap. We can book bikes for you as well. Interaction with GuestsBoth of us are out of the house often. We own a yoga studio in Okazaki called studio BiNDU ((URL HIDDEN) located next to Heian Shrine and two main museums as well as several excellent restaurants. Mark and/or Eri spend time here almost every day, but we are always available for your questions and to help point you in the direction of a great place to eat, visit or shop. We will supply a map of the immediate area, marked with the location of several supermarkets, the above listed eateries, as well as the Funaoka Onsen and Daitokuji temple. We will give you a short list of our favorite restaurant recommendations in the downtown area as well. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is pretty quiet. Our home is nestled a little bit back away from the main street (Kuromaguchi) that runs east to west from the subway station all the way to the west side of the city. Within a 8-10 minute walk are several bus lines, as well as many eateries, a few convenience stores, and even a drug store and several traditional Japanese shops. Getting AroundFrom our home, it is an easy 8-10 minute walk to two major bus routes, one on Senbon street and the other on Kitaoji. From Senbon, you can catch a direct bus to Heian Jinguu, a large shrine in the Okazaki area, close to the Kyoto National museum (and our yoga studio!). The shrine is one of my favorites because it has a beautiful spacious four-part garden (¥600 to enter) with some lovely walking paths and two ponds. From Senbon there is also a direct bus to the downtown shopping area and the famous Nishiki market. From Kitaoji, there is a direct bus to Nijo Castle. From our home, you could also take a 20 minute walk to Kitano Tenmangu shrine, which is especially lovely during ume (plum blossom) season at the end of February. Kyoto is also a bicycle city. We can direct you to a place that rents bicycles for ¥500 per day. By bicycle, from our home it is an 8 minute ride to the Kuramaguchi subway station, which gives you access to the entire downtown area of Kyoto within 5-10 minutes. Also, by bike you can reach the Kamogawa river in 10 minutes, and bike along the river to downtown, or stop and have a snack or lunch at one of the many benches along the way.

The SpaceWelcome to Sasaya House! -'Sasa' is ceremonial bamboo, used in such celebrations as the Tanabata star festival. You'll see the bamboo theme in the house when you arrive. Also, the house has warm, soft on the feet, pine floors downstairs. A rarity for a home in the city. Upstairs, it's traditional tatami mats (also soft on the feet!). Loads of closet space and I've taken the time to put in little finishing touches that I'm proud of -from the elegant lighting, to hidden bamboo sketches on some of the downstairs walls. I really enjoy decorating & gardening... so, hope you enjoy... Guest AccessIt is a private, fully functional house so whatever is in it (see photos), is at your disposal! Interaction with GuestsI'm willing to help out whenever I can. We'll (my wife or I) gladly get people to the house and settle them in. We live a short distance from the house so can be contacted for emergencies or general inquiries. The NeighborhoodShugakuin (pronounced -Sugar Queen!) is in Kyoto city proper. Roughly a 20 minute bus, train or bike ride to downtown shopping. This is a community that many long-term expats gravitate to as they get to know the true beauty of this city. It's also the area that Japanese royalty used to spend down time in. You'll see why if you stay here a short while. You're nestled in the foothills of the Higashiyama mountains, home to most of Kyoto's world heritage sites. One of which, Shugakuin Imperial Villa, is actually a 5 minute walk from your front door... If you are adventurous, you could even walk through the mountain trails to reach many of the others. Bon Voyage Getting AroundAs already stated on the web page and photos, all the necessary amenities are a short walk or bike ride away (bikes provided). Bus and train service that connect to all the major sights is also within a 10 minute walk. 5 minutes walk from the house, Bus # 5 takes you through downtown (approx. 20 minutes) all the way to Kyoto station. Other Things to NoteWe are a family with kids, so we have lots of ideas to keep your kids entertained as well. In fact, there's a great kids park 'Kodomo Rakuen' about 15-20 minutes walk away. It's part of the International conference center, where they signed the Kyoto protocol...

There is a red paper lantern (it is written as SOBA『そば』) immediately. Please follow the narrow way beside the shop (SOBA Restaurant 権太呂 ). The way has a corner of a street twice. The house of the 2nd corner of a street is here. It is about 3 minutes so far from that bus stop. Other Things to NoteCheck-in : 4pm to 8pm. (Please appoint time for your check-in before then. Because I can't stay all times here.) I can keep your baggage from an afternoon. (It's not possible in the morning. Because there is no place to keep your luggage safely in the morning. And this house is narrow, luggage store location is only guest room of you.) After the guest has checked out and I will organize the room. There is the conditioner in each room. (The daytime use is impossible.) However, it's low voltage one and not a perfect one. Therefore, there is the kerosene heater in each room in winter, too. It will make an oil smell at the time of start, but the smell gradually disappears after the operation. (The kerosene heater, please turn off when you sleep. The air-conditioner operating is ok for your sleeping time too.) I recommend that you spend with warm clothes in a house on winter season. (For example, a sweater and fleece clothes...) On the summer season, it's for the sake of sleeping time. Please use of operating between 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. There are 3 sets of rented bicycles. It's old and 300 yen for one bike and one day. A washing dryer is 300 yen at once. I inquire the information of the official name (age, sex) and address of the guest beforehand. In addition, please show a passport at the time of check-in. (It's helpful if you can inform a passport number beforehand.) It simplifies many procedures of the day of the check-in. And these informations are necessary by local laws and ordinances for the security of other guests and neighborhood inhabitants. I thank you in advance of your help. Finally, the house rule here may be tight. There is it on the basis of a thing not to trouble other guests and the inhabitants of the neighborhood. Also, because the house of the old tree is easy to produce mold (smell) and a pest, everyday maintenance eggplant is indispensable. In addition, it's made the handling of any heater and some electric appliance severe for prevention for fire. Because all house of the neighborhoods is a house of the old tree, too, and they are easy to burn very much. Please understand these situation. When you can stay comfortably, you will feel kindness of other guests.

The SpaceThis house is traditional Japanese house which is really close from the station. The house is 2 stores.there are 3bed rooms(included one of Japanese style room) and one living room with kitchen. It just renovated 2014. So it's totally clean even if it's traditional style of Japanese. I'm sure you can enjoy Japanese taste in comfortable. This house is originally 80 years old Machi-ya(Japanese traditional wooden townhouses). Many families had lived since 1930 since this house was made. If you are looking for a traditional Kyoto style accommodation, this is your place. You can enjoy an authentic Japanese atmosphere in this house. 7 elements which I certainly recommend to you!! 1. Cozy Japanese traditional style house which was loved by my grand mother. Wooden townhouse of Kyoto that does not change from past. I redecorated the house which my grandmother lived in. It has the history of 80 years. Here, you can experience the true Japanese culture. 2. Convenience and comfort It takes only 2-minutes by walk from the nearest station(JR Hanazono Station). It's about 10 minutes from Kyoto station to Hanazonio station by JR train. I don't recommend to stay in downtown.because Kyoto downtown is east of Kyoto where is far from any stations.if you book a hotels or guest house in downtown, you may have to walk for a long time with a big luggage. It must make you tired. 3. Temple and Shrine Myoshin-ji Temple(妙心寺)which is the biggest in Japan Zen temple is near by the house. It takes only 1 minute by walk.
