Wether you just stay for a night or for two weeks you shall feel welcome and truly feel at home. If you want a change from just another tourist hotel Mahinda offers you a place to relax before you go on with your travel or to stay for while with him.
The house sits within a large shamba (garden) in a rural area. A small veranda opens into a living room with a separate dining area. To the right side of the house there is a separate tract with two separate guestrooms and a separate bathroom only for our guests.
You will have a truly kenian experience off the beaten track. Since the rate is including full board (as well as the pickup from Ihururu or Nyeri Town) we wil be happy to serve you local and traditionell food, mostly out of produce from the own garden (shamba). You are more than welcome to help harvesting your dinner.
Part of the compound is a large fruit and vegetable garden (Shamba), where among other things maize, sweet potatoes, bananas, arrowroot and potatoes are grown. Depending on the season you may pick mangoes, passionfruits, physalis, pomegranate and more for your breakfast table.
The compound is situated in the Highlands of the Central Province, in Ihururu, 12 km from Nyeri and can be reached by car or matatu (small bus). The small village Ihururu is a typical relict of the colonial settlement policy. A few houses and shops, schools and churches around a market place and a matatu to Nyeri. Guests may be picked up either in Nyeri or Ihururu marketplace.

Staying with Mahinda at his place was a tremendous experience. Pernille and I live in Nairobi and despite living in Kenya it was interesting to spend a night in the hills of Nyeri. The location of the place is very beautiful and serene. The cool mountain air was very pleasant and we warmed ourselves and the cozy indoor fireplace. Mahinda had cooked a very nice stew and "Kikuyu" potato mash that filled our stomachs. It was an easy 2.5 hours drive from Nairobi and somewhat easy to find. (website hidden) played teases us so got a boda rider to direct us to Ihururu and Mahinda met us there. We stayed at Mahinda as part of my dad was visited from Denmark (65 years old) and I wanted him to experience a different side of Kenya which was successfully completed with the stay at Mahinda. Another reason for stayed there was to break our drive to Mount Kenya in two.
