The SpaceWe designed this house with a Belgian architect friend who worked for the local UNESCO World Heritage Office. Together, we developed a space that blends into the neighbourhood, makes the best use of light and views, and uses brushed concrete, local wood, and bamboo for a modern space with Luang Prabang style.
The house is built in "reverse" configuration, so the downstairs has two bedrooms with hardwood floors, a shared full bathroom (with separate toilet), parking for bicycles or motorbikes (there are places to rent both just around the corner), and a washing machine. The master bedroom has a small courtyard with plants where you can dry laundry, and a safe for your travel documents and money. Both bedrooms have queen-sized beds, air-conditioning, fans, closets, reading lamps, and mirrors. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom.
The upstairs is a vaulted-ceiling, open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area with a balcony at the front and a large terrace at the back with a beautiful view of Phousi Hill. The kitchen is outfitted with a gas stove, refrigerator, toaster oven, kettle, French Press, and utensils, plates, and cooking pots. The dining table seats 6, and there's a sofa, daybed, and TV and DVD player (with a stock of things to watch!). Guest AccessGuests have access to and privacy in the entire house. Interaction with GuestsWe're pretty busy people at the moment, as we run our own businesses and have a 1 year old and 3 year old! So, we're generally not around on a day-to-day basis, but are happy to answer questions by phone or e-mail, or meet in person for urgent issues. We will send our neighbourhood tuk-tuk driver to pick you up from the airport or bus station (no extra charge), and he will supply you with the keys to the house. Being long-time Luang Prabang residents we have put together a folder with lots of insider information!
Please contact us to check availability and if you have any questions about the house! The NeighborhoodOur house very central but yet residential. We are on a local, friendly street (only one guesthouse in our neighbourhood) where residents hang out with each other in front of their homes. It's a two minute walk from Dara Market, five minute walk to the Night Market, Morning Market, and main tourist street, and a 10 minute drive from the airport. We're just around the corner from Visoun Temple (with the famous "watermelon stupa"), as well as popular restaurants/hangouts like Lao Lao Garden, Hive Bar, and Utopia. We have several local mini markets where you can buy drinks, snacks, and basic supplies within 3 minutes walk, and there are many restaurants within walking distance. It's an 8 minute walk to the Nam Khan River, and 10 minutes to the banks of the Mekong. Getting AroundAll the tourist sites in town are walkable. If you're not so much of a walker, bicycle is a great way to explore Luang Prabang, and the house has a room to securely lock bikes or motorbikes at night.
Our tuk-tuk driver, Mr Phou, who will pick you up and bring you to the house when you arrive, lives two doors down, and can take you somewhere further away if needed. It's also easy to flag tuk-tuks on the main road if you want to go to the waterfalls or outside of town. Other Things to NoteWe'll arrange an airport transfers for you as part of your booking, and you'll be welcomed with fresh coconuts in the fridge (coconut water is perfect for this climate). There's drinking water, coffee, tea, and some cooking basics in the kitchen. The house also has an number of books about Luang Prabang and Laos for you to learn more about this beautiful town and intriguing country!
For families travelling with small children, let us know, and we'll put in a pack-n-play cot, high chair, kid plates/utensils, baby bathtub, and some toys and books.
