The SpaceThe house is surrounded by jungle and sits atop a pond (currently - January 2,16 - under maintenance). The most frequent expression from guests as they enter is ‘Wow’. It has the wow factor. The house is spacious, with three bedrooms (two of which are available to guests) and is linked to the outdoors by the deck over the pond and the outside gallery upstairs, running the length of the house and fringed with orchids. Guest AccessYou will have access to the entire house (except occupied bedrooms!), garden, and swimming pool. The room rates are per person and are totally inclusive: there are no extra charges. Interaction with GuestsGuests will be collected by the host from the airport or other place in Vientiane. If requested, the host will take guests on a guided tour of Vientiane. They will take aperitifs on the deck before dinner (world-famous G&T!) and dine with the hosts (Lao or international cuisine). Other notable Lao and expatriate guests may be present at dinner. Guests may take breakfast with the host and hostess, or privately, according to their preference. The NeighborhoodWe are 10km out of the city centre, in a rural village with a beautiful Wat (temple) and friendly neighbours. The village is developing as a residential area, but density is very low and natural vegetation still predominates, especially in our garden! This is still a very peaceful area, with the main sounds the noise of the birds, cicadas, waterfall, etc - as everywhere, there are cocks crowing and dogs occasionally barking. Getting AroundWe provide one trip into town and back per day, if desired, at a time to suit you. It may be with our vehicle (Toyota double-cab pick-up) or with a locally-owned tuk-tuk. Depending on time of day, expect the trip to take 30 minutes in each direction. Other Things to NoteOur intention is to provide a complete experience - living, local transport, relaxing, drinking, eating - in one all inclusive price. There are no extras, unless you want to come and go several times to the town.

Getting AroundThe house is just 500 m from Patouxay, where you can easily get a Tuk Tuk. But Vientiane is a small town, so you can even walk down to the Riverside in around 25 minutes. Other Things to NoteImportant: we had to realise the using aircon is quite expensive (I myself never do), so we would charge an additional 3 USD per day for each aircon, which you would like to use. This corresponds with the actual price for the electricity. You might ask Noy, if you need laundry. There are some restaurants and Cafe's in the area (Italian, German, Thai, Chinese-Vegetarian etc.).

Therefore this restaurant is opened only on the week-ends or on booking during the week, which enables us to take good care of our hosts and get to know them– some became true friends- as well as giving us the time to fully enjoy our (early) retirement.

The SpaceThe house is big. There are loads of bedrooms, loads of bathrooms and loads of space. The garden is fairly large too. I have a housekeeper and a gardener and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. I really want you to enjoy your time in Vientiane (and Laos, and, your whole trip!) and want to make you feel like you are visiting a family friend. I love cooking and can hopefully make you a breakfast you'll really enjoy, in a space you'll love, and be able to point you in the direction of interesting things to do in and around here. Oh and of course I have a big kitchen for teaching cooking classes which I hope you'll join. Guest AccessYou are a guest in my home, so you are welcome to relax in the sitting room, cook when there isn't a cooking class going on (and we aren't catering - but if we are, there are generally some good bits and pieces to taste), use the fridge, make yourself a drink, enjoy the garden, etc. The gate is kept locked at almost all times and so it's a safe environment for kids. I'm also a teacher so have loads of books and games for kids and adults. Interaction with GuestsI will be around and will point you in the right direction for anything you want. I really want you to enjoy your visit to my place. If I can't be around when you first arrive, my housekeeper will settle you in, and give you a key, but I'll do my best to be there for you. And you can call too with any problems. I will always stay at the house if I have guests staying. The NeighborhoodMy house is about a five minute walk from the Mekong river. I live in a quiet street just off a main road on the way into town. It's near the embassies for Myanmar, Korea, Australia, Singapore and various others. It's a great location and the garden supports many birds and butterflies. Always lovely to have your morning coffee surrounded by birdsong. Getting AroundI have one bicycle that you are welcome to borrow on a first come first served basis, but bicycles and motorbikes are easy to rent in town. I have an arrangement with a lovely woman who rents out new automatic Hondas that she will bring them to my house and deal with all the paperwork there which makes life easy. If you prefer, I'm 100 metres from the main road which has plenty of tuk tuks. We can also call a taxi if you want. Buses aren't so reliable yet. Other Things to NoteVientiane is a really foodie town (I guess in part due to the French influence) so I expect you'll want to eat out, but I also have take out menus if you don't want to go out and don't want to cook. I can point you in the direction of restaurants of various types, and for various budgets. I have three very friendly dogs and they'll want to get to know you when they first arrive. After this, they'll chill out. I offer cooking classes. Some of these are for local people who are learning to cook, some are kids cooking classes and some are If you are looking for a party town, Vientiane won't be for you, and my place won't be ideal either. If you are after a base to chill, to check out the city, to recover from travelling, to have some good food and check out the life in this most laid back of capital cities, I think you'll have a great time.

The SpaceI love this part of the world and I want you to love it too. I do have extra mattresses and other rooms, if you have kids too - just let me know. I want you to feel at home in my place and to relax, read, cook, explore, play with my dogs, or take cooking courses. I run the courses with an excellent Lao cook so you'll have the authentic food, and be able to understand everything, come away with substitute ideas for the foods that aren't available at home and we can adapt the dishes to your taste. The cooking courses are run at an extra cost, but feel free to ask about anything you'd particularly like. They run on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings and cost $35 per person. We can also organise soap making classes a baci (traditional welcome, leaving, marriage, engagement, travel, etc.) ceremony for you, with a few days notice. If you have any special requirements, do let me know. I really want you to feel relaxed and happy during your stay. Guest AccessYou'll be our guest and you'll have access to the house. We want you to have a wonderful time here. Interaction with GuestsWe will be around for you as much as we can. There should be someone in the house almost all the time. We want to help you to get the most out of your visit so we'll help with ideas, thoughts, directions, transport and in any other way we can. I love helping people find the Vientiane (and Laos) that is not shown in the guidebooks. The NeighborhoodThe house is just a couple of hundred metres from the Mekong, which is great for an evening walk or a beer as the sun sets. It is also near most of the embassies. The road is almost always quiet, except for faint noise from the temple during festival times, but really near the main road that runs from the bridge connecting Laos and Thailand. It's convenient for town and easy to find. Buses run to town and out to the Friendship Bridge and Buddha park from the top of the road (about 100 metres) every 15 minutes and there are plenty of tuk tuks there too. There are lots of simple Lao restaurants in the area and within one or two kilometres are a large market, and French, Thai, MK, True Coffee, Mexican, Indian and pizza restaurants. There are also extensive options for take out. Vientiane is heaven for foodies with superb, but reasonably priced restaurants offering food from around the world. In the morning, the monks from the temple at the top of the road will be out collecting alms from local people who will set up the food and prayer mats outside their houses to welcome them and receive blessings. Maybe go for an early morning walk to watch the sun rise over the lake, see the alms giving and then check out the market as folks arrive to buy their food for the day. You could even join the monks for worship and breakfast at the temple. There are Lao herbal steam rooms around, but I like the one at Sokpaluang, just next to the temple and about 2 kilometres from the house. Set in a forested area, the herbs are picked each day and the steam room is a simple Lao structure with a room for steaming, an area for drinking their herbal tea, and an area for Lao massage. Most Saturday afternoons, the monks also hold meditation sessions at the next door temple. I have a lovely woman who will come to the house for a manicure and pedicure for just $6 and we can also arrange for you to have a massage at home from high quality, masseures. While you are here, have a hair wash - it is an amazing experience - 30 or 40 minutes of scalp, neck and shoulder massage, leaving you with shiny hair. Or learn how to make soap at my place - a charity provides soap to help in basic hygiene in rural Lao (and even in hospitals) so your contribution will further their work and leave you with a bar of hand made soap. And of course, we run the cooking courses - Lao food, western food and kids cooking classes here. I want you to have a wonderful time here. Getting AroundTuk tuks are easy to find just a short walk from the house, or we can call a tuk tuk or taxi to the house. We can also help you to rent bikes, if you prefer to get around that way. I have a bicycle you can borrow as well. The market, paddy fields, lake and Mekong are all just a few hundred metres from the house. Town is five kilometres away. Other Things to NoteThere are three very friendly, clean, loving dogs who live in the house. I can speak intermediate French and Lao.

The SpaceIt's a Lao style property, but with all the Western touches you could ask for in a modern home - fully fitted kitchen, great expresso machine (happy to make you a latte/flat white), air-conditioning throughout, wifi, and lovely garden with BBQ and outdoor dining area. Guest AccessPrivate bedroom with ensuite, with full access to shared kitchen/living areas while you're our guest. We do have two small children and an old labrador dog. The dog is well trained, and lives outdoors all the time. Wish I could say the same of the kids! Full access to backyard/garden, and we have two push bikes you can use to get around. Interaction with GuestsI am semi-retired, so have time avaiable to show you around if you'd like. If you like your 'me time', then you can be very private in your large, fully fitted out bedroom. I can also arrange collection from the airport or Friendship Bridge (both 20 minutes away from the house). Happy to arrange tours or recommend places to visit & things to do. However, people don't come to Vientiane to be active - this is a very peaceful and relaxed destination! My Lao wife would be happy to show you around the local markets and create some Lao dishes at our home with your purchases. The NeighborhoodIt's a local area with a few expat style houses dotted around around ten minutes from the main tourist area. It does have local cafes and shops within walking distance, and the local street food is awesome! Getting AroundPushbikes, motorbikes, tuk tuk, taxis etc. No real local transport options apart from those, but I'll help out when I can Other Things to NoteOur home is about ten minutes from the tourist area of Vientiane, and about 5 minutes from the Mekong. Both accessible by either pushbike, tuk tuk, or local taxis. Motorbikes can also be rented close by for a reasonable price. Lots of local restaurants & street food in the area.

The SpaceWake up with a breathtaking view overlooking the Nam Ngum River in a traditional wooden house on stilts. Enjoy your own bamboo hut by the river over a drink, reading a book or simply taking a nap on a hammock surrounded by lush greenery and the occasional cows and goats passing by. Meet the villagers, watch the fishermen or test the local children's english skills on their way to/from school! This is a True Lao experience away from typical traveler spots. Guest AccessKitchen, shared bathroom with hot shower, village beach (suitable for children with supervision, no current and an enjoyable 28C all year long), bamboo hut by the river (sala), mountain bikes (3) and 2 motorbikes if you feel like going for a ride. Interaction with GuestsAfter 10 years in Laos, I have chosen the village life and want to offer you a true Lao experience: ask about our 2 night package: we accompany you to a local Lao bbq in the rice fields, lunch on a small boat on the river and the village market before a home-cooked meal. Meet our village friends in their homes so you can experience Lao living first hand. Lao, English & French are spoken so no problems getting lost in translation! If you wish to visit the nearby Zoo or a local Hmong village in the Phou Khao Khauai mountains we can take you there - we also offer personalized off-road trips in northern Laos if you are keen to meet and learn about Lao minorities (Khamou, Hmong, Phrai, Akha) - please ask for details. The NeighborhoodThe house is nestled in an authentic Lao village with 3 monasteries, you will mostly see goats, cows and children or monks passing by, the estate is very private with an exceptional view on the river & sunset, a refreshing breeze and lots of shade provided by beautiful parasol trees. Getting AroundWe are located on scenic road #10 (Hadkiang village), 8km north of the Tangon bridge, 1 hour north of Vientiane. It's a popular stop for people traveling on their own between Vientiane and Vang Vieng or Luang Prabang. It's easy to find (the pin on the map is accurate) & there is a public air-conditioned bus (#23) from Vientiane's morning market (Thalat Sao) to the Tha Ngon bridge every 20 minutes where we can pick you up free of charge. There is a direct bus from the airport every hour and taxis can drive you directly, fare is about $30, 40 minutes. Other Things to NoteSleeping is on comfortable mattresses with mosquito nets overlooking the river. We serve continental or Lao breakfast and share a western style bathroom with hot shower. There are several stalls and a couple local restaurants for food, you are welcome to home cook as well, there's a well supplied market nearby. All our guests had a fantastic time visiting us, especially families with their children or small groups stopping by on their way to or from #VangVieng and #LuangPrabang We are proud to be part of the #LaosRiverLoop which lists authentic Lao locations and activities between Vientiane and Luang Prabang. We hope to share our paradise with you when you are in the area! Enjoy improbable Laos!
