The SpaceWe have chosen to live and share our place as it is an authenic rural sabah setting. Its very quiet at night here, no city lights and noisy distractions. Our rustic setting is comfortable ,but we intentionally dont have airconditioning and satellite tv! Guest Accessour guests are free to wander around our property except for our gated house area.there are paths around, and beautiful views down to tamparuli and out to the south china sea.your downstairs sleeping area is your private space, but we do prefer to access upstairs when you stay with us to provide pizza packages, cleaning etc.upstairs remains unlocked when you are with us.
we have provided you with boardgames, books and different areas to relax in, but please tell us if you need anything specific prior to arrival and we will do our best to accommodate....perhaps you like a good game of mah jong ? we have a table and set for your use and are happy to setup. Interaction with Guestswe are happy to help with information and chats, as we live on site we are always here.
in saying that the place is big enough for everyones privacy and we would like you to enjoy your own time when you choose to.on arriving we will show you around a bit and then you may not wish to see us until the next day ?! we provide you with our phone number if the need arises. The Neighborhoodour closest neighbour is down the hill around 1 km away.we are up here alone, and only see distant house lights in kiulu valley across from us.
tamparuli is the closest town to us.a river winds through it with a pretty suspension bridge across it.you can actually see our property in the hills above if you stand in the middle.wednesday is market day in tamparuli, its a colourful scene with locals selling everything and anything....well worth an early morning visit.
the closest village to us is (URL HIDDEN) is a small hamlet spread down the side of the hills.most people are rubber tapping, although the younger generation work in kk.further up the road from us is lingga village, which has a beautiful primary school perched high on the hill with commanding views.the road then winds down another 5 kms or so to a dead end at the river, village bambangan is here which is smaller still, but very prettily wedged between the hills, streams and the river. Getting Aroundour land is remote from convenient public transport, you will need to either self drive or have a driver take you here.the closest bus stop is tamparuli, 6 kms away.from there our house is up hill, mostly straight up hill!
you can easily take a mini bus from kk city to tamparuli, then a private taxi to our place.
if transport is an issue to you we can suggest to you a method best for you, nothing is too hard in sabah! Other Things to Notewe live in secoundary jungle, there are bugs, mosquitoes and all kinds of crawlies that wont hurt you.our sleeping area is netted, and mosquito proofed tested and authenicated! .....we do suggest bringing mosquito repellant , which are usually only pesky around dawn and dusk, or periodic wet/dry/wet cycles when they breed up.if your planning a walk sturdy shoes, long light clothing and a hat is suggested too.
in a rural environment we also experience periodic random power outages.we have backup lighting for this, and hope to improve our solar system in the future.
it rains almost every day, usually in the evenings between 3-7pm.nights are cool and (URL HIDDEN) actually gets cold from around 10pm, the chilly wind follows the valley down from mount kinabalu, the fierce and majestic one that sabah is best known for.
please let us know if you would like us to provide a pizza package for your dinner.mimimal 6 persons per order.we make our own dough and cook in our own five foot wide pizza oven...we dont serve pork products.
your rate includes a light continental breakfast, toast, fruit, tea and coffee.if you would like a pancake breakfast package please let us know.
we do stock drinks and snacks, but please remember we welcome you to bring your own supplies and make full use of our kitchen which has full kitchenwares, utensils and cutlery for ten people.
downstairs we have 8 bunk beds, and a double fold out bed sofa.we prefer to have a maximum of ten guests, please let us know if your group is larger than this.
there is a semi open shower and toilet (squat) block attached to the downstairs area.while private the seperate cubicles gives you an open view of the hill above the house. The shower here is cold water from the rain water tank above.
20mtrs away from the guesthouse is another block with a toilet (western) and shower (seperate rooms) . this shower is fully enclosed and has a hot water pump system.
we have a large bbq for your use, theres a small charge for charcoal but if you bring your own thats no problem.wood is a nightmare to start, most big supermarkets sell bbq charcoal,3 bags is ideal.
please let us know if you would like to go on walks around the area.there are animals around, such a deer, slow loris, wild cats and possibly tarsiers.we have seen all these creatures not far from our house, and the tarsier has been listed as its been seen from a very reliable source!
as we are an orchard you can expect fruit.normally fruiting season is around july/august so you can expect to enjoy durian, rambutan, tarap and cempadak, to name a few, from our place.we have alot of pineapples which fruit as they please, so if you can beat the squirrels to them they are juicy and ohh so sweet! we normally enjoy from the markets banana, watermelon, papaya, mango and other local fruits that are on our table year round.
our place is half way between mount kinabalu national park and kota kinabalu city. in kiulu valley there are companys that provide half day rafting packages in the river below us.the river below us is about an hours hike straight down through a rough jungle track from our place.if your interested in rafting we can help you arrange, the pickup point will be from tamparuli.
theres some great mountain bike options closeby our place.the trails closest us are quite challenging due to the steep terrain, but well worth it for awesome views and pretty jungle.easier options are around the flat lands of tamparuli and tuaran district.if you are interested in this we can help you arrange with our prefered operators.
