The SpaceHere at Casa Hok'Ol we are offering a cozy and affordable home away from home. Each of our apartments offers a equipped kitchenette, once a week cleaning service, linens, wi-fi and the human necessities: warmth, light and beauty. We have decorated them with love and charmed them with personal trinkets and art from our own travels. We appreciate the beauty of nature and have cultivated a bit of it in every corner of our house. It is with great joy we welcome you to share in this space! Guest AccessDon't be fooled by the unmarked entrance to our little hotel. You will be taken aback by the abundance of lush green that overflows in our garden. We have two different seating areas perfect for enjoying some time outside with the plants, the birds, the kittens and our affectionate dog, Hippa. Our third floor "mirador" is a great place to watch the sunset…or rise. Interaction with GuestsAfter nearly eight years in Southern Mexico (Oaxaca+Chiapas) we have relocated to San Miguel de Allende in Guanajuato to begin new projects and live closer to our family. The place that was once our home became home away from home for many travelers along the way and although we don’t have the pleasure of hosting in person any longer--the space and what it offers remains unchanged. Although our house and business are for sale we continue to manage from afar. I take my role very seriously and spend time each day attending to Casa Hok”ol. I am constantly in contact with our guests via internet and our husband and wife team, Lupe & Nery, have very gracefully taken over the role of the management of the house, welcoming our guests and taking care of their needs on-site. I have written up a booklet with my take on San Cris and our favorite nooks and crannies of the city. Because of these changes we ask that our renters be aware that our house is best suited to independent travelers. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is the oldest in the city, it is quiet, almost abandoned of car traffic, littered with flower petals and houses the artisanal and indigenous markets, along with the two oldest churches in town. We are located on a narrow, winding, cobblestone street that takes you back centuries. We are four short blocks from the pedestrian walking street and three from the Indigenous market. Getting AroundAnywhere in SanCristobal is close. We are in fact just a small mountain village. Anywhere you'd like to go? Step out the door and take a taxi for less than $3USD. SanCris is surrounded by nature parks and indigenous mountain villages and completely accessible by public transport. We are an hour and a half from TGZ airport and five hours from Palenque. Other Things to NoteWe take pride in being socially responsible with our earnings and try to make our rates accessible while offering our travelers the most we can. We do not skimp in our services and we pay a fair wage to the families we work with. We are committed to putting our income back into the lives of normal people here in Chiapas and buy everything we can from local, fair trade artisans.

The SpaceThe cabin is recently remodeled, I'm offering a special fee temporary after the remodeling (see fees section). It is located outside downtown San Cristóbal, but not far. It takes about 15 minutes to get there by car or by cab and about 30-40 minutes to do it by walking. Cabs charge about 2 US dollars per trip and can be called by phone. The neighborhood is really beautiful, quiet and safe. It is the perfect place for those who wants to rest well without being stuck in the middle of the touristy area. The cabin has two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other one with two single beds. It has one bathroom, a living room and dinning area, kitchen with all facilities and a cosy private garden where is possible to make barbecues and eat outside. (Please ask for the charcoal BBQ if need it). There is a parking spot and WIFI. Guest AccessGuest has acces to all the cabin and its private garden. I like to make my guest feel like home Interaction with GuestsI'm always happy to interact with my guest when I'm in town, also my parents, who live in the same neighborhood, love to organize barbecues and mexican dinners with guest when they have the time. I'm always available to be reach by phone or email. Communication with my guest is a priority, so even if sometimes I'm overseas, I'm always in touch with my guests. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is beautiful, it sits in a lovely quiet part of town up in the hills. Its quiet and surrounded by nature. Most of our neighbors and artist or researchers. Getting AroundThe cabin has easy access by car, cab, bike or just by walking. I recommend using cabs if you don't have a car. They are cheap, fast and safe, they charge around 2 US dollars per trip and can be called by phone. (I provide a phone line to call them, please not long distance). Other Things to NoteIf you need any recommendation for restaurants or interesting places to visit, don't hesitate to contact me. I also provide laundry service in case you need it.

The SpaceThe cabin is located at the base of Cerro Huitepec (Mountain of Colibries), one of the most peaceful and enigmatic natural places of the South of Mexico. It has easy access to downtown San Cristobal, which makes its location unique. Dues to these factors, guests can enjoy the beauty and charming of the historical town without being stuck in the middle of the hustle of tourist downtown. The cabin offers a great opportunity to visit emblematic places in San Cristobal de las Casas, and a cozy, beautiful and comfortable place to rest and enjoy nature. It has two bedrooms and one bathroom, it's fully furnished and it has all the amenities required to make your staying memorable. There is a full size bed in each bedroom and a full size futon in the living room. The kitchen has all the tools you need to cook and eat at home. I always provide drinking water, good coffee from the Chiapanecan farmers, bread and local fruits. There is also a pool table, a chess and other table games that you can use during your staying. I also provide electric and/or gas heaters if necessary. There is also a charcoal barbecue grill upon request in case you need it. This place has beautiful yards with nice views of the mountains. There is a parking spot for one car, free wifi and laundry service with an extra fee in case you need it. (There are not hidden fees, the only extra feed would be the laundry if you require it. Please contact me directly in case you need it). The cabin has easy access by walking, bike, public transportation or car. Cabs charge about $ 35 / 40 peso(URL HIDDEN)2.5 USD ) to downtown San Cristobal and they can pick you up at the cabin upon phone request. Estimated ride time is 15 minutes. You can also walk down the dirt road to the main avenue (10 mins aprox) and easily get a cab there. The walking way to the main avenue is surrounded by trees and it's pretty enjoyable. Guest AccessGuests have full access to all the cabin, its yards and all the amenities mentioned. I'm always happy to helping them when they need it. Feel free to contact me anytime if you have questions or if there is something I can do for you. Interaction with GuestsMy email, phone number and (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) are always available to stay in good communication. I love to meet my guests and grab a coffee or a glass of wine with them if our schedules match. Anyway I'm always in touch with them. Home is made of brick with southern exposure skylights in kitchen and eco-friendly east side brick brown painted wall outside to preserve heat. San Cristobal de las Casas is located in the Chiapas highlands at over 7,000 feel (over 2,000 meters) so climate is cool all year long and in winter can even have light frosts at night to early morning. It's the central market for highland indigenous Maya communities so on any given day the population of 200 thousand increases to over 300 thousand. *1 living room with cathedral ceilings, fireplace, couch that can narrowly sleep one adult, large chair. She's a bilingual Mexican-American published journalist, Fulbright scholar in Pre-Columbian Art History and licensed tour guide in Mexico; and she will be available remotely to advise you about going to Maya villages and ancient archaeological Maya ruins such as Tonina, in Ocosingo and further into the Lacandon rainforest: Palenque, Bonampak and Yaxchilan. *Property is securely gated in a safe, patrolled, green neighborhood and valley where foreigners jog daily, with excellent views of the Guadalupe Church, mountains, the Fogotico River Valley, the El Encuentro Ecological Park. 15 minute walk or 3-minute drive to the town-square or "zocalo", taxi fare to downtown is about U.S. $3. *Interior driveway access parking secure if you bring a car. *Pet-friendly. Should you not want the cats in the dining room either, it's possible to find an alternative. *1 shared washing machine managed by the housekeeper. Housekeeper service included: 3 mornings/week. She will wash and change provided linens and towels for free once a week; she will wash your personal clothes at request for a small fee to cover the electric, soap and wear and tear of the machine. Cost is comparable to laundry mat in town. Please note: Housekeeper will come daily to feed the 2 cats that are only allowed in the dining room. Ginger, my Golden Retriever, will also be fed outside and is not allowed in the house. At times, housekeeper will work out of the independent entrance basement room that is used to receive you and the cottage and cabin guests plus for storage. House Rental: Children under 12 are free (don't add them to your reservation) Electric included but for stays over 1 week it does NOT include cost for gas for stove and hot-water heater for shower, which is about US$8/week and also NOT for wood for fireplace which costs about $25US per cubic meter chopped, according to usage. 1x Cleaning fee for before and after departure $25. Come visit for the most unique experience! Guest AccessThere is a pedestrian door to the street and a sliding garage door gate if you bring a car. There is a gate between the driveway and the rest of the property that should stay closed so my dog Ginger does not go into the driveway. The dining room window remains open for cats to come and go and be fed by the housekeeper. There is a door from the dining room that locks from the rest of the house. The back outside dining room door remains unlocked for housekeeper to have access to this room where the dog and cat food are stored. Her name is Marta and she is very trustworthy having worked for owner for over two decades. You will love her. She is a native of the local village of Huixtan and speaks fluent Spanish and Tzotzil Maya but still does not read or write. Should you object to the cats in the dining room, upon request, other arrangements can be made for them to be fed elsewhere. Interaction with GuestsWe will be in close contact remotely always. The NeighborhoodThis is the best, greenest to town neighborhood in San Cristobal. We have a system of resident security patrol. The neighbors are all very friendly and always looking after each other. We blow whistles to notify others if something goes wrong and the response is 100%! The property after 35 years has never been broken into by thieves! Feel very secure! Getting AroundA taxi to town is under US$3 but is a very easy walk and if you are coming back with groceries and need a taxi all local ones know the area well and charge the same. Best to walk to town and take taxi back if tired. Or rent a bicycle in town! Other Things to NoteSan Cristobal is the central market town for some million indigenous maya from all over the highlands. The small city has many attractions and is easily reachable to many indigenous towns as well. It is easy to travel to the Maya ruins of Tonina, Palenque, Bonampak and Yaxchilan. Also further onward, to Campeche, Yucatan, Cancun; even Guatemala, some 3 hours from SCLC to the border. Since SCLC is in the highlands, the climate is ideal; never getting too hot or too cold for westerners; there is a rainy season in summer and dry-cold season in winter.

The area’s inhabitants have lived here for several generations having settled with the newcomers. The park that is located just 30 meters from the house, is very picturesque reflecting much of San Cristobal. It has a basketball court, as well as gardens and a small church. As implied by its name, the neighbourhood party traditional to the builders and is celebrated on May 3. There are also small local shops near by and the ecological park “Encuentro” is one step away and the Fogótico river, there you can take picnics and practice outdoors sports. We recommend visiting this natural area in the company of other people. Getting AroundThe area, located in what the INAH consider the historic centre, is perfectly covered by public transport, buses and taxis. The house is easily accessible by foot from the city centre, it is about 20 minutes to downtown. Also, for those who enjoy cycling, the house is perfectly accessible by bike. The car is obviously an option but you can definitely do without it. Other Things to NoteThe fact that on the same site there are other two houses is an advantage for several reasons; contact with local people is one of them. However, the right distance between the buildings also allows respective privacy. If one so desires, there is the possibility of socializing with the residents of adjacent buildings. The SpaceHere at Casa Hok'Ol we are offering a cozy and affordable home away from home. Each of our apartments has hardwood floors, an equipped kitchen, once a week cleaning service, linens, wi-fi and the human necessities: warmth, light and beauty. We have decorated them with love and charmed them with personal trinkets and art from our own travels. We appreciate the beauty of nature and have cultivated a bit of it in every corner of our house. It is with great joy we welcome you to share in this space! Guest AccessDon't be fooled by the unmarked entrance to our little hotel, we are a tiny epicenter of wanderlust hidden here amongst the chimney smoke and fog of San Cristobal. You will be taken aback by the abundance of lush green that overflows in our garden. We have two different seating areas perfect for enjoying some time outside with the plants and the birds.

The SpaceComfy, quiet room, solar hot water, temazcal. Guest AccessYou can use the kitchen and the washing machine. If you would like to use the temazcal (traditional sauna), we will arrange for a fee of 400 pesos covering the wood and the time to prepare it for you. Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to give tips about San Cristóbal and Chiapas. Both of us are anthropologists, environmentalists and Kjell works as a tourist guide sometimes. We also work with indigenous communities in the rainforest of Chiapas and sometimes have guests from the communities here at the house. Our kids grow up with German and Spanish as first languages. Galileo (7) knows Portuguese and English as well and if you like kids, you can have a chat with him, too... The NeighborhoodVery quiet, almost rural neighbourhood called "El Lago" near the city center. The municipal sports center is just around the corner. Attention: Due to the visit of the Pope the access door to our shortcut route to the center of town has been closed. It is still possible to step through a gap in the wall, but it is a bit adventurous. Else you have to take a taxi (30 pesos) or walk an extra 15 minutes to get to the center. We are working on fixing this problem. I will remove this notice as soon as we have. Getting Around15 minutes walk to the city center, 10 minutes walk to the bus station (Cristóbal Colón). Taxis cost 30 pesos and take you anywhere in town (35 late at night). Other Things to NoteThere is a double bed, so the room is for 2 persons, normally. If you are three, we can add a mattress on the floor.
