The house is situated in about 1 acre of landscaped gardens and it is ideal for persons who wish to have peace and quiet and who like to be in contact with nature. There is a great variety of birds and butterflies here and it is very relaxing.
We are located In West-Central Mexico, near the Laguna de Santa Maria del Oro, an unspoilt crater lake about 2 km in diameter at an altitude of 730 meters. The lake is surrounded by steep forested mountains that rise about 300m above the lake. Winter weather is normally sunny and dry, with temperatures more moderate than at the coast. This area abounds in birds and butterflies. There is easy walking around the lake and more challenging hiking in the surrounding mountains. You may swim in the clear waters of the lake and rent kayaks at Koala Bungalows. There is fishing for bass and perch. We are approximately 50km SE of Tepic, 210km NE of Puerto Vallarta and 190km NW of Guadalajara and 20km via a good paved road from the turnoff to Santa Maria del Oro at km 195 on the main highway Mex15 between Tepic and Guadalajara.
You may make day trips to a variety of nearby places of interest such as the Ceboruco volcano, the picturesque colonial town of Jala, the archaeological zone of Los Toriles at Iztlan del Rio, the Agua Milpa dam, which is renown for the best bass fishing in Mexico; and Tepic, the capital of Nayarit.
I have two bicycles that you may use to visit nearby waterfalls and scenic viewpoint. We are not far from the historic town of San Blas and the famous jungle cruise, the lovely beaches of Chacala and Guayabitos. If you are arriving by bus, take a collective taxi to Santa Maria del Oro, and I can meet you there. If you wish I offer to meet you at the airport (Guadalajara or Puerto Vallarta) Just pay the toll road fees and gas for my car.
This is an unspoilt area just 5 minutes by road to the lovely Santa Maria del Oro lake, or about 20 minutes walk. I have a couple of bikes that you may use to visit the lake or the nearby waterfalls. The area is popular with birders and over 200 species have been named. You might like to hike around the lake since the views are incredible and you may see some of the wildlife like deer, armadillos, squirrels, opossums, iguanas, chachalacas, magpie jays and lots more. The lake is ideal for swimming, boating, kayaking and fishing. I recommend this place to relax and use as a base for visiting many places of interest.
I am a keen gardener and keep the landscaped gardens looking their best at all times, there are many flowering trees and bushes, lots of grassy areas, shade houses with hammocks, so if you like to relax and be in close contact with nature then you will love it here!
My wife and I travel extensively and when we are home we enjoy meeting people from all over the world, We look forward to your visit!
