The SpaceYou will be housed in a beautiful rustic wood and bamboo cabin where you can feel at ease in the midst of a breathtaking surrounding. There is electricity, water, a kitchen, a bathroom, a hot shower, bedding and the lake to swim in. It's the ideal place to read a book in a hammock, to swim in the lake, to bake yourself a pizza in our bread and pizza wood oven and to feel totally detached from what we believe is reality... There is no wi-fi connection. You are coming here to re-connect with nature. You probably have common sense, but in case you surf in another dimension, as some people do, we ask you to clean-up after yourself and wash your dishes. Please don't get on the beds or the hammocks with your shoes on, don't use the pizza oven-platters to cook other things on them and in general take care of the equipment we have for you to use. Thank you. Guest AccessYou can roam all through our 3 hectars of this beautiful land, swim, fish if you bring your fishing gear or take a boat stroll on this beautiful lake with one of the many boat drivers offering their services. You can also ask a fisherman to bring you a freshly caught tilapia and bake it or BBQ it... Interaction with GuestsJesús, the guardian of this ecological reserve will set you up, will get you the oven going if you give him 50 pesos so he can get the wood and chop it. He'll tell you where to light your fire and you will be one with nature! He will be there to help you in case you need assistance. His house is not far, it is quite visible from the cabin, but you will have your privacy. The NeighborhoodIf you didn't know it, the Catemaco region is one of the most beautiful and energetically powerful places on the American continent. It was the craddle of the Olmec civilization thousands of years ago and until today, it is the place where shamans and healers gather from all over the country. What we call in Mexico the ¨vibration¨, is definitely different than anywhere else. No wonder food and music are also something out of this world here. Getting AroundThere is bus transportation to Catemaco from Mexico City, from Veracruz or from other towns. From Catemaco to our intersection, where the road splits going to Sontecomapan on your left and to Nanciyaga straight ahead, you can take local ¨colectivos¨ or a taxi. It takes about 20 minutes plus a 15 minute walk from the intersection to our natural reserve. You could also take a fabulous boat ride right from the bus station, which is next to the lake. Just tell the boat captain to go to ¨La isla de las garzas¨ (the heron's island), and if you disembark on ¨tierra firme¨, you will have arrived to Toxcatl. You will disembark at a few feet from the cabin! We have detailed maps on our website, which you can find under the name toxcatl, adding a dot and the magic com. Other Things to NoteAlthough Mexico has been affected by serious mismanagement from above, you should not worry here, since the bad guys have no special interest in nature reserves, they basically quarrel among themselves...

Catemaco is located on Lake Catemaco, the 2nd largest lake in Mexico and just 20 minutes from the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. Sitting at 1000 feet in elevation, the nights are typically cool (in the 70´s) 10 months of the year. Our family owned, gated resort type property is located in a quiet neighborhood and within less than a block a nice little grocery store. Fruits and vegetables are available from a number of little stands just a few minutes walk rom your casita. There are 2 large stores, similar to Wal-Mart, about a 5 minute drive places to stock up on grocerys and other products. Lake Catemaco is only a 10 minute walk away and centro (downtown) about a 20 minute walk following the sidewalk along the lake and passing a number of small parks. Of course you can always take a taxi, about 20 pesos, to anywhere in town or catch a bus at the corner to almost anywhere in the area. Our property is staffed 24 hours a day and my husband and I are here every day to answer any questions. Some of the attractions in the area include beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, waterfalls, jungle, coffee and tobacco plantations, fishing, boating and some of the most beautiful scenery in Mexico. Tour the lake by powered launch and at Monkey Island you'll pass within yards of the Mandrill baboons and Howler and Spider monkeys. Thirty minutes away on the ocean's edge, you'll visit pristine beaches, with scuba, snorkel, kayaking and fishing. We're in the middle of the Las Tuxlas area of Veracruz. Waiting for you are extinct volcanoes, wild rivers, huge waterfalls, and hidden lakes. Being still in the 'undiscovered' area the true Mexican culture very much an everyday thing. Undiscovered, that is, except by many Europeans, Nationals and Hollywood, where 'Medicine Man' and 'Apocalypto' were filmed (check out the waterfall and jungle scenes). National Geographic crews have been in the area documenting butterflies that are unique to the area and universities from all over the world have explored the ancient Olmec culture native to the area.
