The SpaceUnlike most tourist rooms in Valladolid, the studio efficiency has a kitchenette with fridge, hot plate and toaster oven. There's wireless internet, gated off-street parking and a private roof patio partially covered and partially open to the sky. There are hammock hooks inside and out. On moonless nights, star-gazing is definitely an option! Guest AccessThe bed is queen-size. There is also a sofa that drops down into a single bed. The space is fully outfitted with sheets, pillows, blankets, towels, dishes, pots and pans, etc. A washer and clothes lines are available on the property and laundries that will wash, dry and fold for 10 pesos per kilo are five blocks away. I can lend small things needed such as an iron, a hair dryer, small kitchen appliances. etc. A TV with DVD player is available. Interaction with GuestsThere's a lot to see and do in Valladolid and the surrounding area. I am happy to talk about where everything is and how to get there. I also have a list of things to see and do that I can send in advance by email. The NeighborhoodMy property is in a nice quiet area on the southeast edge of town with friendly neighbors and four small stores within easy walking for basic necessities. There are several restaurants within a 3 to 4-block walk - one of them has a swimming pool! Several places in town will deliver pizza and other orders to the door. Getting AroundMy property is on the southeast edge of town. That's a 15-minute walk to town center (5 minute taxi ride), but it's cooler and quieter than close in to the Main Square. If you want to be within stepping distance of the downtown attractions, then my spaces are not for you. If you like peace and quiet and you don't mind roosters in the morning, then ... bienvenidos! Taxis cost 20 pesos per group traveling together and a walk of 2 to 3 minutes will always find one. There is a radio taxi service by phone that will come right to my gate. (This is easiest when traveling with luggage, for example, to the bus station.) There are several places in town that offer tour guide services. A bike rental shop is located very near town center. There are pueblo taxis that travel out to the Ek Balam ruins (where you can climb the pyramids), the cenotes in Dzitnup (where you can swim underground), the church in Uayma, and other nearby tourist sites. There are even taxis that travel between Valladolid and Tulum and Playa del Carmen. Buses run regularly from the bus station in town to Chichén Itzá, to Río Largartos to see the flamingos and swim in the Gulf, and to other places farther afield. Other Things to NoteNOTE: In the fall, winter, spring - Cancun and the entire Caribbean coast is one hour later than Valladolid. During Mexican Daylight Savings, there is no time difference.

The SpaceIts a huge old colonial brick house with a modern part at the back leading to the garden, a unique traditional, bohemian experience. I am renovating the house and it has been a massive project but very enjoyable! Your room is at the back and is extremely quiet with twin beds that have a huge ceiling fan directly above them. Air conditioning is not necessary in my house, tall ceilings mean its naturally always quite cool, obviously this is a tropical place but its all part of the experience. I am always working on DIY projects in the house, using old abandoned and recycled elements together to create pieces of furniture, I m a fashion designer but this seems better fun! Its a work in progress but very comfortable with sofas looking from the lounge into my tropical garden which has an amazing diversity of wildlife and birds. The bathroom has a huge window looking out onto the garden so you can watch nature while having a shower, it makes me so relaxed it should work for you too. Guest AccessAnywhere, places to sit in the garden, relax on the sofa, make yourself food in the kitchen. Interaction with GuestsTranquil and peaceful after a day out as you sit in my garden or lie on the sofa you can have a beer (you buy that : ))) and look through my books and magazines. I am around and like to chat to everyone and often find alot in common with my past guests so its been really cool, I travel alot myself. The NeighborhoodThe neighbourhood is very traditional, old houses beside new, its close to the convent and the square, 1 minute walk from the cinema, films in English. Getting AroundYou can walk everywhere from my house but as I said I rent 2 bikes also, its a great to discover the town by bike. Other Things to NoteBikes $50mx each the day

The SpaceThis is a large modern stone house in a Mayan village of 100 people in the jungle 10 miles from the colonial city, Valladolid and many other ruins, including Chichen Itza (25 minutes by car) . Your neighbors are super hospitable, quiet and respectful. The unique home is a small organic farm, but you aren't expected to work! You have a large separate bedroom, bathroom and share my kitchen, and the whole house .The top deck or observatory is good for stars, and for birds early in a.m. You are close to both Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico beaches (1-1/2 to 2 hour drive or bus ride) and resorts, and have an in-house guide if desired in your host who has lived there 12 years. Cancun, and Merida, the capital of Yucatan and a spectacular, cultured city, are only 2 hours away by driving or bus. You have cellular phone service, wi-fi, 3G internet (sometimes weak), but there is no TV, nor cable . In the nearby Valladolid, internet access is free, or cheap and plentiful. The village is 3 miles off the main highway and joined to it by a good, asphalt paved road. With advanced notice, you have access to two or possibly more good bicycles to ride to the neighboring Cuncunul where buses, taxis and mini buses make frequent stops, or through the jungle to a beautiful church in Uayma (3 hrs. RT.) Guest AccessThe whole home, shared respectfully while they are here. Interaction with GuestsAs much as they want and I have time for. Getting AroundThere is plenty of public transport, buses, combis, vans, taxis on the main road 3 miles away, and I take guests at least to there. I usually meet guests who don't rent a car at the bus station and charge for gas ( about $4 dollars) sometimes, as I often come into Valladolid. I have five bicycles for guest use. Other Things to NoteI prefer that if a guest is not able to sleep well ( as has happened rarely for example due to the roosters crowing early on a full moon!) or is uncomfortable in any way that they notify me immediately, wake me up, etc.

The SpaceThis lodging and Dr. Colon's experience and training give you unprecedented access to the life of a living Mayan village. Once you cross the threshold you will begin to experience a way of life whose origins can be traced back to the beginning of humanity in the paleolithic era. This is a sustainable way of life that has been practiced for thousands of years and is missed by those whose experience of the Yucatan is confined to the packaged tours of the "zona hotelera". Guest AccessGuests, by prior arrangement, will have access to local cuisine prepared by the best cooks in this and a neighboring village, in their homes. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the mayan way of life from a seasoned anthropologist with an intimate knowledge of mayan culture. Interaction with GuestsI enjoy sharing my knowledge and engaging my guests according to the time they have available and the degree to which they want to delve into the fascinating culture of the maya. The NeighborhoodI enjoy the living-garden nature of this community. My neighbors homes are nested in lush stands of fruiting tropical trees, exotic hardwood timbers, vegetable and herb gardens. Getting AroundThe villagers have accessible taxi and tax-van and for-hire service to Valladolid, Chichen Itza, Piste, the Maya Riviera and other points of interest in the peninsula. Other Things to NoteThe bathroom has hot water available and the shower area is equipped with safety bars.

Unlike most tourist rooms in Valladolid, the guest house has a kitchenette with microwave, fridge and counter-top stove. The bed is a three-quarter futon, very comfortable for one or a couple. Taxis cost 20 pesos per group traveling together and a walk of between two and four blocks will always find one. There's a lot to see and do in Valladolid and the surrounding area. I am happy to talk about where everything is and how to get there. And there are several people in town who offer tour guide services. A bike rental shop is located very near town center. There are also pueblo taxis that travel out to the Ek Balam ruins (where you can climb the pyramids!), the cenotes in Dzitnup, the church in Uayma, and other nearby tourist sites. Well-behaved pets are always welcome. If you have a car, I ask a $10USD deposit for the clicker to my electric gate. The deposit is refundable upon the return of the clicker at the end of your stay.
