Devonport is a great place to stay and most facilities are only a 3-5 minute walk away from the apartment. There are some great restaurants, cafes and a couple of good pubs providing a range of food from fish and chips and Kiwi fare to Thai, Vietnamese, Italian, Greek, Indian and Chinese cuisine most places also do a takeaway service and some also feature live music nights. There is a great cinema which also does live theatre and music concerts, a great variety of art galleries, local shops including a supermarket and library for bookworms. Most of these facilities run along either side of the seaward end of Victoria Road all within a short walking distance from the apartment. There also great beaches to laze around in and plenty of safe swimming areas, fishing off the wharf, great walking tracks to the top of our two volcanoes from where spectacular 360 degree views can be had of Auckland and the Islands.
Devonport was one of the original settlement suburbs and many of the character and historical homes have been preserved and renovated to keep the heritage aspect of Devonport alive. Many good walks and lots of historical sites and old military forts are all within easy reach. You will find guidebooks at our home on your arrival and there is an Information site at the ferry terminal. Our local Golf course is only a ten minute flat walk from our apartment and there is an international chess centre just 200 metres up the road from our home. Devonport is also the home of the Royal New Zealand Navy and the Naval base and Dockyard were the reason Devonport was first settled so there is a great maritime tradition in the area, the RNZN museum at Torpedo Bay is a great place to learn of Devonport's maritime history. All of the main attractions and shops restaurants etc are all within a 5-15 min walk from our apartment.
