The SpaceLight, high and airy, the house is set in a large garden nestled in subtropical forest and elevated for full sun, on the edge of a beautiful estuary and mangrove forest. It is very peaceful and private. There are great views from every window. The house is fully accessible by public transport right at the gate. There are also many gorgeous walks both from the house and further afield, both coastal and in the forest and a children's playground right next door. Guest AccessThere is off street parking available for three cars. All guests have access to all of the living space in the house. The bathroom is shared. The kitchen is original but roomy. Interaction with GuestsI like to meet you at the house and show you around and then I disappear. I expect you to treat my house with care and leave it how you found it. Please take your rubbish with you or leave it in an orange bag at the top of the drive before you leave. The NeighborhoodTitirangi is a great neighbourhood. Titirangi means Fringe of Heaven in Maori so its is very beautiful and high up. There are lots of cafes, a supermarket with a good organic range, a great library and a new art gallery and theatre venue. For dining in the village Deco in the bottom floor of Lopdell House isnew, very funky and comes highly recommended. Takahe is nice too though I'm not sure about the food. There is also a new dining cinema precinct in New Lynn called Brickworks that has some great restaurants and is also quite affordable.. For morning coffee I like Stripe in South Titirangi Road, just opposite the library, or Vevo in the Village also. For takeaways in the village I recommend either Hells Pizza (they do great gluten free bases) or Village Kebabs (great felafel roles and Meditteranean, and Handi for Indian takeout. Titirangi is also close to Piha and Karekare and the famous west coast beaches. There are many beautifull bush walks in the area and also great coastal walks. It has a famous sunday market on the last sunday of every month, and also a farmers market. From Wikipedia: Titirangi is a suburb in the Waitakere Ward of the city of Auckland in northern New Zealand. It is an affluent,[1] residential suburb located 13 kilometres to the southwest of the Auckland city centre, at the southern end of the Waitakere Ranges.[2] In Māori language "Titirangi" means "long streaks of cloud in the sky", but this is often given as "fringe of heaven".[3][4] The population was 3,330 in the 2006 Census, an increase of 93 from 2001.[1] It is characterised by houses built within the native bush of the Waitakere Ranges. Many are of unusual design or are raised on poles to avoid the damp.[5] The Waitakere Ranges lie on the west coast in the path of the prevailing winds from the Tasman and consequently attract a high rainfall. The native bush is home to many native birds, such as the Fantail, Tui, Kererū or "Wood Pigeon", Morepork and White-eye. The landscape of Titirangi ranges from Titirangi Beach on the Manukau Harbour to 400 metre high parts of the Waitakere Ranges. For a long time the area had a reputation for bohemianism.[6] A number of well known New Zealand musicians, artists, writers and potters currently live or have lived in the area, including singer/songwriter Tim Finn (who wrote the song "I Hope I Never" there), actress Alma Evans-Freake, author Maurice Shadbolt, painters Colin McCahon (whose house is preserved as a museum) and Bibi Asgher, photographers Brian Brake and Peter Evans, poet John Caselberg and potter Len Castle. An active local theatre, art gallery and radio station are based in historic Lopdell House. Lopdell House is West Auckland's Regional Art Gallery, located in Titirangi Village,is a great place to explore New Zealand art. The SpaceThe house is light, and airy and nestled in the forest but is elevated for full sun, with large decks. It is peaceful and private and has a glimpse of the water from the house. There are great views from most of the windows. Also there is a bush track down to the beautiful estuary of Little Muddy Creek. In this area there are numerous beautiful walks both from the house and further afield, both coastal and in the forest and a children's playground is a short bush walk away. There is a bus right at the gate that goes into New Lynn and leaves every hour at 8.30, 9.30, 10.30pm etc. Guest AccessAll guests have access to all of the living space in the house (except my office). The bathroom is new. The kitchen is original but roomy. Interaction with GuestsI like to interact with my guests and I love a great conversation and hearing your stories. However I also really like silence and quiet.... and as there are many beautiful birds in the garden, the forest and the estuary, then its lovely to hear them chiming away and this place is about sanctuary, relaxing and rejevenation. Then again on occasion we also like to turn the music up and dance around the living room or the garden when it feels right. Generally I like to do yoga and work on my book in the morning and interact more fully with my guests in the late afternoon and evening and even if possible share a meal or two. Also happy to cook separately also and give my guests the space they need. There is a cupboard in the kitchen and space in the fridge for guests food. Cooked meals are available on request for a charge but must be advised at time of booking so I can be prepared. The NeighborhoodTitirangi is the loveliest neighbourhood that you can imagine. Titirangi means Fringe of Heaven so it is very beautiful. It has a Bohemian feel. There are lots of cafes, a supermarket with a good organic range, a great library and a new art gallery and theatre venue. Titirangi is also close to Piha and Karekare and the famous west coast beaches. There are many beautifull bush walks in the area and also great coastal walks. It has a famous sunday market once a month, and also a farmers market. For dining in the village Deco is hot and new and comes highly recommended. Many short walks or tramps in the Waitakeres start from Titirangi, and maps and advice can be found at the nearby Arataki Visitor Centre Getting AroundThe 170 bus goes to the village and New Lynn hourly and from there you can transfer to a bus or train to take you to the city, Mt Eden, Kingsland, Newmarket etc. Considering how remote the house is this is a fanastic bonus. Other Things to NotePlease indicate in your booking whether or not you require separate rooms. There are two bedrooms available and they each have a double bed. Each room costs $50 per night for the first person and another $25 for the second. If you are booking for two people wanting separate rooms the charge will be $100 per night. The Air BnB price of $75 relates to a couple booking 1 room. Also if you are backpackers and want to do a special deal in exchange for some help in the garden, or firewood etc....then request the dates and then send me an enquiry and I'm happy to negotiate. There is also a recycling bin outside the laundry door for empty bottles and cans. If you do have a lot of rubbish at the end of a long stay in New Zealand I can give you a rubbish bag for $2.50.
