The SpaceWelcome to Rosalie B&B! Only 90kms from Auckland’s CBD 30 mins by (URL HIDDEN) or two hours by Sealink fast ferry, (URL HIDDEN) Great Barrier Island truly is one of New Zealand’s (if not the world’s) best kept secrets: an untouched paradise offering unspoilt, magnificent beaches and nature you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in the world. Nature's Garden B&B is located in a beautiful valley high in the hills overlooking the bay at the Southern end of Great Barrier Island in Rosalie Bay. Surrounded by native forest alive with birdsong, we offer the perfect accommodation for both lovers of nature and the great outdoors, and those seeking ‘off-the-grid’ serenity and time out. Complete with macadamia nut orchards, lily ponds and ancient Kauri trees, Nature's Garden B&B allows you to experience untouched New Zealand nature at its very best. We are passionate about organics and sustainable living and this is evident in everything we do. You will enjoy delicious, healthy breakfasts with organic produce where possible, farm fresh eggs and milk and organic coffee. If you do prefer to pop out to a café and enjoy coffee over the paper, there is the famous Wild Rose Café or Claris Texas café both within driving distance (or walking distance for the more adventurous). Use our accommodation as a base to explore the island’s unique attractions which include natural hot springs, fantastic surf and swimming beaches, beautiful hiking trails, rock fishing and snorkelling. Please email us with any questions you may have, as residents of the Island for over 25 years we are very familiar with everything the island has to offer. Looking for a very special location for your honeymoon, or just for a weekend away with your loved one or just you? This truly excellent apartment provides the kind of sweeping panoramic views over the Hauraki Gulf only billionaires dream of in the rest of the world... and the seclusion and peace and quiet you have been craving for so long. It is a self contained apartment, attached to a comfortable eco house which is mainly run on solar power, wind power and wood. For summer it even has a swimming pool overlooking the water. House and apartment were finished in 2010 and have extra wide views from the Coromandel to the Whangarei Heads, and are situated in a very remote location only shared with your hosts. You will need a 4WD vehicle for access. Bring your own or ask about vehicle hire. When you walk into your lounge, an expansive view may make you realise that you are not just looking at a view, but that you have become part of it. Take a seat on the comfy couch and just gaze at the ever-changing views over the water. Keep an eye out for dolphins, whales (Brydes whales and Orcas), cray fisherman clearing there nets, ocean liners in the far distance or gannets hang gliding past. You may occasionally check that your book is still in your lap and that your drink is still at hand. But you could completely forget about them, too. Once you are totally relaxed, you could go and explore the island, or go for a swim in the pool that is part of the complex. The Spot X fishing spot is right down below, a 20 minute ramble for the nimble footed down a goat track takes you to the rocks. Your hosts are happy to show you how to get there. The apartment comes with a master bedroom with en suite, but on request, one or two of the quality queen bedrooms in the main house can be rented as well. These two rooms are connected by a bathroom. Minimum rental period is 2 days. The X-spot is located on top of a cliff on the western side of Great Barrier Island, New Zealand and has amazing views over the Hauraki Gulf, from the Broken Islands in the North, via Little Barrier in the West, to the lights of Auckland in the South. This location is the kind of location that only billionaires can afford in Europe or even the States. We were lucky enough to buy early, to dream for a long time, and to finally be able to build our house with holiday apartment in this location. It is set in a very secluded location on 25 acres of regenerating native bush. Often the only sounds that can be heard are the wind and the water lapping on the rocks below. A 20 minute walk down a goat track takes you to a private pebble beach and great rock fishing. Access is by 4WD car. The road to our place and our drive way are not sealed and quite steep. We have found that a lot of our guests enjoy this side of their adventure. We can assist with 4WD car rental. Please enquire.

The SpaceThe house is situated on Aotea/Great Barrier Island's Medland's Beach, which is considered one of New Zealand's most beautiful beach spots. The shoreline is approximately 100 metres from the house, and you can hear the hum and roar of the ocean. At certain times you will be the only person on the vast shore. It is quite an experience to be on the beach at night under the stars. The property is perhaps the highest piece of land on the beach front, and there are ocean views from the verandah. Staying at the house is akin to a 'retreat', though there are a few other houses along the beach. There is a camping ground near the lagoon at the north eastern end of the beach, and there is a children's play ground just along, too. The house sleeps 2 couples in queen size beds, and there is a single bed for an additional person. The island has no electricity power grid, and only about 1000 permanent residents. Accordingly, the house has a solar power system. It powers the fridge, lights, phones and laptop. When it gets dark, you can supplement this lighting set-up with the lanterns (solar) - but this isn't really necessary. Also, the place is on (rain) tank water, which is drinkable with a newly installed filtration system. Water use should be done with the knowledge that during summer there is very little rainfall and while we have a 10,000 Ltr tank this is a limited resource. Cooking is on a nice new gas stove and there is bbq, but please be aware of the local fire issues on the island (particularly in peak summer - fire bans often apply). There is a internal shower and flush toilet and external cold shower and tap set-up at the front of the house. In addition there is a outdoor sink for cleaning fish (if you strike it lucky at shark alley). If you feel like doing some hiking, research the tramp to the huts near Windy Canyon in the Island's interior. Some French people I met recently had done it over 3 days and loved it. Guest AccessThe whole house and garden are available for your use. Interaction with GuestsWe have a property manager, to greet you on arrival, and to show you around the house. The NeighborhoodIf you feel like stepping out for a drink or the 'nightlife', we recommend the Carach (Irish owned) pub at Mulberry Grove, over towards Tryphena. There is also the Claris Sports Club, which has a popular bar. It adjoins the rugby field, and a golf course in the most incredible surroundings. You can play a casual round of golf and rent clubs. The Burger Shack at Claris makes a mighty good fish burger, and is next to Aotea FM, the local radio station. Claris also has a good art and craft gallery. You can get petrol and shop for food and alcohol at Claris. Alternatively, the Stonewall Store at Mulberry Grove is excellent for your grocery needs. Getting AroundYou will fly or boat to GBI. Transport is available to the house from the port at Tryphena, and/or the airport at Claris. Local shops are at Tryphena and Claris. They are quite a hike away, You can rent a car, but book ahead if you are coming in the high season. Other Things to NoteThe Island has no electricity grid. The house is on tank water (drinkable), and the power system is solar, for the lights, fridge and small devices. There are also a set of speakers that plug into an ipod or similar device. The main stove runs off gas and there is also a webber charcoal cooker, but please be aware that this should not be used in peak summer season (when there is fire ban in place).

The SpaceThis light & modern self-contained apartment provides sweeping 270 degree panoramic views over New Zealand's Hauraki Gulf. It's very spacious and light and has it's own lounge kitchen area, a bedroom with queen size bed, a bathroom, a walk in ward robe and a little hall way. It's not a B&B. Guest AccessGuests also have access to the swimming pool, which is shared with the owners of the our home. The apartment is attached to our home, but completely separate, with it's own front door, kitchen facilities, etc. Interaction with GuestsWe greet our guests on arrival, introducing them to the delights and responsibilities that come with staying in a place run 100% on alternative power. We also give our guests a few ideas on things to do on Great Barrier Island and provide them with really good tourist maps. When our guests return from exploring the island, we often ask how their day has been, if they caught any waves or fish, and on their last day, we do like to say farewell and see ya again soon. We live on site. We do not rent out the apartment when we are not here, as we need to monitor our alternative power and water systems. The NeighborhoodOur closest neighbours live 500m away. The nearest shop is 20 minutes, 4WD or a 2 hr walk, the closest restaurant is a 15 minutes drive away. It's secluded! Getting AroundGreat Barrier Island is a special place. It is rugged, and a lot of the people who live here, are too. Some of the roads are rugged, too, which is why we recommend a 4WD vehicle. There is no reticulated power on the island. We make our own. Well, the sun does. Once the sun goes down, we have to manage with the power stored in our batteries. This is why we do not use hair dryers, electric toasters, rice cookers and other electric heating equipment. Telephone chargers and laptops are fine. There are no street lights. Bring a torch if you plan to go out at night. To get to Great Barrier Island, hop on a flight, FlyMySky, Great Barrier Airlines and Sunair offer services from Auckland to the Barrier. The other alternative is to do a ferry crossing from Auckland with Sealink, or to combine the 2 in a fly-boat. Once on the island, we recommend you rent a 4WD vehicle from Aotea car rentals, or any of the other car rental companies on the island. There also is a taxi service available. It's a long (but nice) walk to Tryphena (2 hrs). Other Things to NoteThe apartment is self-contained, has its own entrance, but is part of a comfortable eco-house, from where we will assist in looking after the solar & wind power and firewood systems of the house. The unheated swimming pool with a view is available for a splash in summer. There is no reticulated power or water. We try to use as little power as posssible and ask you to do the same. Water is heated by the sun or by a wet-back heater. We will set the fire for you for the first night and you are welcome to help yourself to wood from the firewood shed after that. The very remote location only shared with your hosts is perfect for a honeymoon! Astronomers & other stargazers looking for a place without light pollution but with a large deck from where the night sky can be viewed in its full glory are also very welcome. Keep an eye out for diving dolphins, whales working schools of fish, graciously gliding gannets & cray fisherman checking their pots. You may occasionally have to check that your book is still in your lap & that your drink is still at hand, but you may completely forget about them, too. Once you're totally relaxed, you could go & explore the island, or have a splash in the shared unheated swimming pool (with views!!) in summer.

Most activities here have an outdoor focus- bush and beach walks, boating, tramping, fishing, diving, surfing, paddle boarding etc. WaiOra Beach Retreat is just 10mins drive South of Claris and close to the central hub of the island which hosts the local Airport, post centre, shops, cafe, bakery and other food outlets, hire centres, Medical Centre and Administration facilities. The majestic drive over the Okiwi Hill to the Northern end of the island takes approx 40mins. ....and there is so much more to explore! Getting AroundThere is no public transport so car hire is highly recommended for exploring the island, however there are local taxi and shuttle bus services, and day tours can be arranged. We share our roads with many bikers and walkers - hitch-hiking is also a very popular option. Many of the walking tracks require a good level of fitness. Other Things to NoteOur shops carry a good basic range of fresh and packaged foods and many organic products, but can be expensive so its good to come prepared. There are no banks on island but all shops take Eftpos- and bringing some cash is an advantage. Many areas do not have adequate cellphone coverage or wi-fi. There is no mains electricity on the island so leave your hair driers and electric jugs at home ! Water is a also a precious commodity here as most of us run on rain water tanks which we manage very carefully in Summer. Waste and rubbish disposal are a major issue for us so composting and recycling where possible is much (URL HIDDEN) run on rain water tanks which we manage very carefully in Summer. The SpaceVery private and secluded mini-estate in one of the most beautiful spots in New Zealand, Great Barrier Island. Only a 30 minute flight from Auckland International Airport. The property is well located to make your stay on Barrier enjoyable. Five minutes to Medlands the most popular beach in summer. The property features a small bungalow that is completely off the grid and overlooks its own private lake. Fresh rainwater, solar power and gas for heating. Internet with Wi-Fi and telephone is available but no mobile phone coverage (coverage is 5 mins away if needed). The internet is good and reliable for general use but streaming video will be slow. Be careful not to waste power and unplug anything you don't need. If the power runs out there is a backup generator but that shouldn't be necessary. The property is surrounded by beautiful native bush and is very sheltered thanks to the natural bowl shape. If you love nature and privacy then this is a great choice. Hint: If your lucky you might spot some rare and endangered birds on the property. The owner has hospitality experience so you will be well looked after and someone is always available to come and help if needed. Enjoy your stay. Guest AccessYou have access to the entire property. The property has its own private beach and is huge (10acres) with two streams, mini waterfall, and historic Maori Pa. Interaction with GuestsI really wanted to tick both of these! I sometime socialise with guests and certainly have done! However, sometimes just no always available! Other Things to NoteThis lodge is on Great Barrier Island. The whole island is run on solar power (backed up with generator/battery power). Water is rain-fed and filtered. However, you won't notice any difference! I would add though that in the hot summer months, it is important to conserve water. I would respectfully request guests do not spend too long in the shower - 5 minutes maximum is a good guide! There are no appliances that eat up high energy, eg. toasters (we use gas), hairdryers, electric heaters (log fire in lounge).
