An exclusive accommodation, just 400 meters from Palm Beach and Waiheke Island's only “clothing optional” beach (Little Palm Beach). Your home away from home sits high atop the rolling hills of Palm Beach with exquisite views from each room. The private deck, spa-pool and lawn are there for your enjoyment. You are also invited to walk around the grounds to the owner's area for use of the swimming pool, where each evening at 6:30p.m. canapes and cocktails are served. As you arrive and slide open the doors you will immediately feel welcomed by the scent of fresh flowers placed in your living room & bath. You will also find a hand-crafted basket stocked with local olive oil, breads, a seasonal spread and of course, a bottle of Waiheke wine. Your kitchen will have all the necessary provisions to get you started on your day: cereal, coffee, tea, milk and jam. As well as all the crockery for making meals, if you are so inclined. Although with the plethora of restaurants the only thing I would be making is … reservations! Once you’ve enjoyed all that the surrounding area has to offer, you can retreat back to the Lodge for a BBQ on the new 200 sq metre deck, take an evening stroll through the property’s olive grove and orchard, and finish the day with a Spa bath looking straight out over Onetangi Valley to the sea. With a large fully fitted kitchen, temperature control wine cabinate and table seating to fit a dinner party of 20 outside (or 12 inside), the Lodge is perfect for dinner parties and social events alike. For those nights when you don’t feel like cooking Casita Miro and Obsidian Vineyard restaurants are only a short walk away. For those without a car, transport to Pegasus Lodge from the ferry is only a bus ride away, with a bus stop directly beside the properties front gate. The beach, local vineyards, and restaurants are only a short walk away, while frequent buses connect Onetangi with the rest of the island. The SpaceWelcome! About Waiheke: + It's good to be on the bus route (island buses run once an hour) + If you are looking for easy access (ie. a short walk) to amenities such as a corner store/vege supermarket for supplies, cafes/restaurant/s, bar/s, beach/es, bowling club/s stick to areas/accommodation near these amenities. This sunny, sweet island home in Surfdale ticks all the boxes. It's a clean, good-looking cabin/bach (/batch/ is what Kiwis call this kind of accommodation) that's simple, fresh and comfy - perfect for relaxation. It's open-plan with one queen-sized bed and one fold-down double bed (yellow couch in picture) and 1 single floor mattress to accommodate 4 people MAX. (Four is MAXIMUM number people staying at any one time due to septic tank management capacity). (ii) All linen is provided (and included in cost). * There's a dishwasher, washing machine and a sun-filled deck with outdoor furniture (table, chairs, lounger). * There are classic games (Scrabble, cards, Trivial pursuit, boules), books and magazines for your enjoyment, as well as various pamphlets and literature on Waiheke for you to take. On the island, water is stored in tanks (run-off from the roof), and wastewater (bathroom/toilet) is treated on the property in septic tanks. So islanders are very eco-conscious with resources, and it will be helpful and respectful if you are, too. From this bach, you don't have to go far (or spend money to get there) to find some 'action'. Across the road there's a beach (which has the best sunsets on the island - all seasons); five minutes walk down the road and you've got an Irish pub, a dairy (what Kiwis call a small corner store), an Italian pizzeria, a bakery and takeaway, a patisserie and a vege shop/ supermarket. Maybe visit the local bowling (lawn bowls) club. This 'sport' is a Kiwi past-time and is a great way to try something new and get in with the locals - and enjoy cheap eats, too (they do a mean Sunday roast). Walk just a little further from the bach and you can visit a couple of vineyards (Kennedy Point on Donald Bruce Road, Goldie on the main road) with beautiful grounds, award-winning wines for tasting, and restaurants on site for eating. This place is great because you don't need to have wheels - it is only a 1 minute, flat walk to the bus stops (both directions). Waiheke has more than 20 vineyards which you will need transport to get to. If you're not up for hitching (that's the 'vibe' of the island), or you don't hire/bring a bike or car (there's plenty of off-road parking and turnaround space at the bach), you catch the local bus just outside this island home. You can bus to other beaches, the township, the ferry, to designated nature walks (around the coast or across the interior), to vineyards, to the Saturday markets... There's a handwritten guide in the bach to give you a good sense of the accommodation and the island so you can can maximise your Waiheke Island enjoyment! Guest AccessThe house with its contents is for your use, including provided linens, all kitchenware such as the toaster, toastie sandwich maker (!), kettle, cafetiere and often everyday food items (oil, vinegar, seasoning, herbs, coffee, tea, sugar, milk - if I've been there, I usually leave whatever's left). The shed and my private storage room (with cleaning materials) you won't need so they are locked under most circumstances. The deck and backyard are private and perfect for al fresco eating and lounging. Enjoy! Interaction with GuestsEither another local or I will more than likely meet you on the mainland or island to give you the key and any further instructions/advice. The NeighborhoodThe location of this bach is the best because it is close to everything you need - and there are no hills, nor long walks to anywhere you need to get to! Local places include: Surfdale reserve - (a 3-5 minute walk from holiday home) grassy area right on the beach, has a kid's playground, free barbecue facility, well-kept toilets, basketball hoop. Hook's Lane reserve and beach (1 min walk from bach, pics in listing) across the road. This - and the beach at Surfdale Reserve, are neighbouring beaches - and they are a local's beach, not a 'tourist' beach - so both have a mellow vibe. Malone's Irish pub (3-4 minute walk) has sports TV live, pool table, bands, DJs. Another locals hang-out. Very user friendly. Stefanos: pizzeria - dine-in or takeaway. Yum. TWO bakeries - for espresso coffees, cheap sandwiches, pies, hot chips, pastries, fresh bread... perfect for when you don't feel like cooking... French Hot - A French-run patisserie for your morning pastries, coffee, baguette, freshly made galettes, crepes etc. Surfdale dairy - only a 3-4 minute walk away from grocery/extras if/when you need them. Things you may need: extra suntan lotion, newspapers including the local paper, chocolate (!), ice creams on a hot day, insect repellent, mosquito coils, (on your way to Surfdale reserve) barbecue supplies... Vege supermarket - for all your produce needs. Getting Around* Plenty of on-site parking. * Bus stops (in both directions) just 1 minute walk from house. Other Things to NoteNOTE: * All potential guests to please provide a photo and complete a profile before enquiring about a booking. * Priority is given to guests booking 3 nights (min) in summer. HOWEVER, if the calendar permits, 2 NIGHTS and even 1 NIGHT may be considered. Just get in touch and ask. NOTE: this is the best value accommodation - you may find booking 3 nights here may work cheaper than 2 nights elsewhere! * Check-in and check-out times are as stated. If you need other times, just ask and we'll try and figure something out. * This is my house/home so it's lived in and it's clean and tidy but it's certainly not a hotel!
