The SpaceThe Ash House located at The Staging Post is rustic and full of character, a bit like your hosts Linda and Mike. We aim to make you as comfortable as possible and recognise we're not the Hilton Hotel so bring a sense of humour and call us with any question. Guest AccessYou'll be able to access short walking tracks in the Staging Post area as well as our swimming pool and stage area if you're looking for some peace and quiet. We are a rural retreat located just 45 minutes from Kaikoura and 55 minutes from Hanmer Springs, and the Waipara wine district is about 45 minutes south. Interaction with GuestsWe'll pop in every day (trying not to disturb you, so when you go out on a day trip, or around 10 - 11am daily) to check the bathroom and kitchen area supplies and ensure all is safe and well (hot plates off, tv off if you're out etc). Having lived and worked in the area for over 30 years we're able to let you know about other local attractions that make ideal half day and day trips, or the best place to hide and read a book, or even lend you a spare yoga mat. The NeighborhoodNext door to sheep & cattle paddocks and some noisy nocturnal possums and some human neighbours (you can't see), The Old Coach House is located at The Staging Post, a rustic rural retreat in North Canterbury. There is a garage and store about 7km south, or Cheviot township is 20km south. Kaikoura is 50km north or a (non swimming) beach visit to view the Kaikoura mountains plunging into the ocean is about 20 minutes away. Getting AroundYou will need a car to get to the Staging Post located just off SH1 about 20km north of Cheviot and 50km south of Kaikoura. Other Things to NoteAll running water on the property is filtered and UV treated. The 2 person price is based on a DOUBLE/QUEEN bed. If you need two SEPARATE beds the is an extra $10 charge.

Interaction with GuestsWe live in Christchurch, so we are not available in person, but very contactable by text! The NeighborhoodKeep an eye out for dolphins! We see them swimming by most times we're up there at least once. Seals are also regular visitors (you'll definitely see one if you take a long walk up the rail track to the bay to the north, they're nearly always sunning themselves on the rocks). We've even seen a couple of penguins, although maybe don't hold your breath on that one, we were VERY excited and it hasn't happened since! :) Other Things to NoteThere are three bedrooms - The master bedroom has a queen bed Bedroom 1 has a single top bunk, and a futon double bed at the bottom, and another futon that can sleep another two (this could be shifted out to the lounge if you're up for moving it!) Bedroom two has a regular bunk and a pull-out single. It's worth noting that the house is about 80m2, so it's fairly compact: while there are technically sleeping surfaces for 10 bodies, it is a fairly tight fit and the toilet is in particularly high demand - I speak from experience! You are more than welcome to use the cacoon and hammock seat - there's two hooks installed under the veranda. (the cacoon is weight limited to 100kg, and it doesn't cope as a swing however!) There are games, books and DVDs for you to use too - obviously just leave them behind when you go

Interaction with GuestsWe happily interact with our guests :) The NeighborhoodCheviot is a small friendly town that occupies the rolling farmland between two of the South Island's magnificent braided rivers and the Pacific Ocean. While small in stature, Cheviot has attractions and services well beyond its size. Big blue skies and fresh country air are the base notes for this slice of paradise. The pace is relaxed, crowds are few. Cheviot village is the economic and social hub of this largely rural community of around 1,500 people, where "old fashioned" community values sit comfortably alongside the town's growing art scene and attractive cafes. Cheviot enjoys a full range of shops and services while just down the road is Gore Bay, one of the South Island's top surf spots and a popular destination for families to swim, explore the rock pools at low tide, fish and dive. The Hurunui and Waiau rivers offer premium salmon and trout fishing and the delicious whitebait. Check out the Domain at the south edge of town on the coast side, wonderful in the spring with abundant Daffodils. (URL HIDDEN) Getting AroundYou will need your own vehicle to get around the district. We have two pushbikes and helmets that you are most welcome to use. Other Things to NotePlease note that we have an inside cat, and a dog who lives outside. Just take this in consideration if you have allergies.
