The SpaceThe cottage is fully furnished to a high standard, has a spacious open plan living area and two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed, wardrobe, drawers, a bedside cabinet, alarm clock. The second bedroom has a double bunk bed (double bottom, single top), a single bed & bedside cabinet.
A double futon can be set up in the lounge area behind the sofa for additional guests.
The cottage is self catering. It is very well insulated (well above the building code) so is lovely and warm - perfect for the ski season! There is plenty of firewood and on the cold days we can light the fire for you prior to your arrival.
The modern kitchen is complete with electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave, washing machine, tub, clothes dryer, gas hot water, log burner, toaster, sandwich toaster, kettle - all you need for a relaxing break!
There is a flat screen tv, dvd player and cd player/radio.
The bathroom has a shower, toilet and vanity. Bed linen and towels are provided.
The check out time may be extended if there are no bookings that day.
The cottage is ideally suitable for up to 6 guests but may be increased to a maximum of 8 guests for short bookings only.
The cottage is 30m from the main dwelling. Relax and unwind, feed the chickens, watch the cattle, explore the forest, enjoy our little piece of paradise that is New Zealand! Guest AccessWhen arriving & departing the property please close the gate at the end of the driveway as we have cattle. The gate opens on the right hand side(next to the house number).
When booking for one or two people using the main bedroom the second bedroom may be locked. Guests are welcome to walk around the 10 acre section.
There is a children's play area that children are welcome to use. There is a fort, two swings, slide, tyre swing & a trampoline. Interaction with GuestsWe're happy to advise you with local dining in Oxford & make bookings when required. The NeighborhoodThe cottage is just a short drive (5km) to the Oxford township. Enjoy a walk up Mount Oxford, local horse trek, kayak on the Ashley River or have a jetboat ride on the Waimakariri River. Why not have a lesson on NZ's only Dressage Simulator only 5 minutes away! There are boutique shops, cafes & restaurants.
Pick up some great local products at the Oxford Farmers Market (9am-12) & Oxford Village Market every Sunday morning. Oxford has an Art Gallery with new exhibitions each month showcasing New Zealand's Artists.
Have an evening meal at the award winning Cafe 51. Check out the Sheffield Pie Shop's "Main Street Bakery & Café" in Oxford for fantastic pies & baked goods. Other cafes / dining options include Black Beech Wine Bar (Gourmet Pizzas & desserts), Pink Sugar (breakfast & lunch), Village Foods Bakery & Takeaway (fish 7 chips, baked goods, pies, sushi, Chinese meals etc), Oxford Workingmen's Club (bistro & takeaway), Challenge "Food To Go" (fish & chips, chicken, pizzas, curries), Rustic Country (ex The West Hotel/pub) serving pub meals.
Just a short drive to Cust (approx 15 minutes) you'll find Route 72 Cafe & Emporium. Check out their Friday night specials. Breakfast, lunch & evening meals on set nights.
Shop at Oxford's various boutique shops including Marmalade clothing & Curiosities, Emma's at Oxford (books & gifts), The Cottage Pantry (baking/cooking supplies etc) & the Art Gallery.

There is a newly built Fresh Choice supermarket in Oxford which is open until 9pm. Inside the supermarket is a NZ Post & Kiwi Bank counter that can exchange foreign currency.
Try fresh raw milk from "Cavan Farm Fresh Milk" at the Farm's self service dispenser (7am-9pm). Ashley Gorge Road. There's nothing like it!
There are some lovely walks in the area - please refer to the Department of Conservation Website for details. Experience the beauty, native flora and birds in the Oxford foothills and Puketeraki Range. Try out the Oxford Rural Walk, Mears Track, Eyre Walk, Oak Walk, Mountain View Walk, Oxford Millenium Lookout Walk, Look Out walk. View map here:

There are three petrol stations in Oxford (Challenge, GAS & Allied) all of which have mechanics for motor vehicle servicing/testing etc.
There is also a hardware store - High Street Hardware. Getting AroundHaving your own transport is a must.
"Red Bus" operates a week day bus service from Oxford township to Christchurch with various stops on the way. See their website for more information. The departure times are in the early morning & return times are in the late afternoon/early evening (aimed at commuters). Other Things to NoteWe have two steers (cattle) & free range chickens on the section.
There is Wi-Fi but please no movie downloads as we aren't on an unlimited data plan. Normal usage (emails etc) is fine.
There isn't a safety barrier along the length of top bunk (see photos).
