Whatever your interests, your hosts Diana and Jeff look forward to welcoming you and to helping you get the most from your stay at Havelock House Bed & Breakfast. Havelock North’s finest accommodation awaits you. All rates include breakfast - Diana's poached eggs & bacon are her 'signature dish' - come and try them, use of all facilities and local taxes included in advertised rates. Havelock House was built 25 years ago as a family home. At the time it was the talk of Hawke's Bay - the first $1 million dollar house to be built in Havelock North. Its colonial style takes its character from many older Bay properties - high ceilings, cornicing, cream paintwork, wide verandas and of course hints of Art Deco. When they first saw the property on the internet they decided it would be perfect for what they wanted a fabulous family home and B&B.; Over the past 4 years Diana and Jeff have transformed their home into a warm and friendly Bed & Breakfast. There are now 3 ensuite ground floor B&B; rooms – all large and spacious and a separate guest lounge, games room with full sized snooker table and a guest kitchen with fridge & microwave. With Diana and Jeff's skillful modernization and decoration the property incorporates the best of both worlds; it is spacious and modern but retains its unique character. The Garden With Hawke's Bay known as "the fruit bowl of New Zealand" of course there are fruit and citrus trees in the 4 acres of garden which you are free to explore. Palm trees surround the swimming pool and there are lots of fragrant roses in the garden There are 2 'chooks' named after Tom's godmothers Pamela and Gillian Cattle graze in the paddocks depending on the time of year and a few sheep keep the grass down. They feed their neighbours pigs with food scraps - you are welcome to join them. Tom's Tables Their son Tom who is 18 creates wine tables and custom wine barrel creations. These include wine tables, racks and bottle stands. Each product is hand crafted by Tom out of oak, recycled from old oak wine barrels. Some of his work is on display in the hall – and he welcomes commissions! Staying at Havelock House Facilities • Breakfast is a great time of the day at Havelock House. Using the freshest of ingredients from the Hawke’s Bay and lots of homemade produce. The SpaceWe live in a pretty early 1900's villa, set in an established tree lined garden, visited by Tui's and many other birds. Running gently alongside us is a small stream, feeding into the larger Te Karamu stream. We have a young dog who is very friendly and a cat who minds his own business. The Nook is detached, sitting on the edge of the garden. It faces away from our house so is quite private. Inside is fresh and new, having only been completed last year. There is a super comfortable queen sized bed, fluffy towels, freeview TV, free WIFI, ensuite with large shower (S&C, shower soap provided) and great water pressure, small table and chairs, plus bar fridge, toaster and kettle with complimentary tea, coffee and some continental breakfast items. For the colder seasons we offer a hot water bottle and heater, as well as a feather duvet to keep you toasty. While we can't accommodate extra adults we can make exception for under 1 year olds by arrangement. We can also provide a portacot if needed, just let us know when making your booking. If you happen to arrive after dark then the path is well lit by flood lights. You may also wander down the short path to the stream, but please make sure that you close the gate behind you. Interaction with GuestsOur aim is to be as helpful as possible during your stay with us. You'll often find me at home with our two preschool aged children who enjoy running around the garden, or playing on the trampoline. However your privacy and relaxation is key to us. There is a regular bus into both Hastings and Napier. Bikes can be hired from the Information Centre or Revolution Bikes both of which are located in the village. There is also a kettle and a toaster, plus some cutlery and bowls available for your personal use in The Nook. If you need an ironing board (and iron) during your stay please just ask. There is also a forest reserve directly across the road for shorter walks. 25 min drive to beautiful Surf beaches- Ocean Beach and Waimarama. Interaction with GuestsYour host(s) would like to welcome you on arrival and are happy to provide transport from the airport (Napier) or intercity bus station (Hastings) by prior arrangement. We like to share experiences and information (perhaps over a glass of wine in the evening) but we respect your privacy and will wait for an invite into your space. The NeighborhoodWe are at the southern point of the Heretaunga Plains, the heartland of award winning vineyards, fruit growing, Art Deco architecture, boutique shopping, cafes and restaurants and nature reserves and beaches, many connected by an extensive network of cycle trails. Check out the calendar for vineyard wine tastings, trips to the Gannet Colony or Art Deco tours. Details of some of these attractions are provided in the Cottage and more, with booking facility, by visiting the Information Center by the central roundabout in 'The Village' Havelock North. Almost opposite, across the roundabout, is our favourite cafe/restaurant for quality evening meals, 'Maina Cafe' , 1 Havelock Road (closed Sunday). We make regular 'quality assurance' visits and hope you enjoy this as much as we do. Getting AroundThe roads are quiet and relatively flat to 'The Village'. We are on a favourite route for fit cyclists but we are 8km or 5miles away with no public transport out this far, so a car is advisable for exploring the wider area in comfort and parking is private, free and generous. Other Things to NoteThe country may not be as quiet as expected and please be prepared for very dark nights. With no street lights please bring a torch or leave lights on when out for an evening. The stars by contrast are worth some attention (with all lights out) and a good observer should be able to spot satellites moving across the sky in the two to three hours after sunset. There are no dangerous animals, birds or insects but some can be noisy.
