In-between your activities enjoy the view, the peace and quiet of Whangaroa Harbour: relax in the hammocks, have a seat in the sun or the shade, lie in the long grass & dream. Guest AccessThere is a wide footpath down to the harbour-side: Step off the land into knee-deep water (at high tide); float off and swim in sub-tropical water; use the kayaks provided to explore the mangrove forests left & right of the cabin; or paddle out to the very scenic West Arm/Pekapeka bay of the harbour. At low tide walk around the peninsula, gathering rock oysters as you go; or fish from the rocks. Lovely walks, volcanic landscape; sheltered harbour, water-based activities; road up harbour ends at my front gate (harbour is thereafter roadless; large areas of harbour belong to Bay of Islands Maritime & Historic Park). Meals: either use traditional wood BBQ outside cabin, or Weber Baby gas BBQ, or gas oven/stove inside. Or: café meals at either the Marlin Hotel or Sport Fishing Club. Or: drive 9kms to licensed Indian restnt at Kaeo; or 45mins to Thai restnt or famous FishnChips Shop at Mangonui. The NeighborhoodThis is the most special place in New Zealand; I have read in a guide book that it is the most beautiful natural harbour in the Southern Hemisphere; it is totally unspoilt and mostly uninhabited, a playground for sailors and fishermen and families. 30 minutes drive to Kauri Cliffs; 45 mins to Carrington Resort. Meals: either use the in-house Miele kitchen, or: the BBQ outside, or: the cafes in the local Pub or Club, or: drive 10mins to the licensed Indian restnt in Kaeo, or: drive 45mins to the Thai restnt & the famous FishnChips shop in Mangonui. Try the Truckers breakfast in Kaeo!- at Donna's Madhatter's Cafe. Getting AroundSituated halfway between the touristy Bay of Islands/Paihia and the long, lonely Ninety Mile Beach (both 45mins drive) it is the perfect hub for trips in all directions. Just 30mins drive to Kerikeri, the business/shopping centre of the Bay of Islands. Weekend Break: Perfect!- fly to Kerikeri/Bay of Islands Airport & there Hire a car, then drive 30mins to Prima a Situ; this means just 1.5hrs Akld to Prima a Situ total travel time! Only once a day does a public bus connect with Kaeo, 10kms from Whangaroa; your own vehicle is pretty much necessary; plenty of safe private parking space, for cars & boats. Other Things to NoteOne couple at a time in the ensuite Queen bedroom; but if there are 3 or 4 of you (family/friends) and you don't mind sharing the ensuite, then you can also use the second, adjoining Queen bedroom as well; all guest rooms and WC etc lockable and with separate private entries. Outside there is a barbecue; tools provided for picking oysters off the rocks at low tide below the cabin; two kayaks. Kayak through the mangroves or across the bay, or out to the very scenic West Arm of Whangaroa Harbour. Great walks in the vicinity - along Lane Cove or climb up St Paul's Rock. Drive the "million dollar view" Wainui Road and explore the numerous beaches along this route - Tauranga Bay, Mahinepua or Te Ngaere Bay - up to the stunning beauty of Matauri Bay. Alternatively drive north to the surfers' beach at Taupo Bay or pay a respectful visit to the giant kauri trees in Puketi Forest. There are some 10 lovely beaches within 45 mins drive either way from Whangaroa; and just 45 mins either way to the tourist-occupied town of Paihia or northwards to the awesome lonesome Ninety Mile Beach and Cape Reinga. 30minutes drive to famous Kauri Cliffs Golf Course. Getting AroundNo public transport to speak of; but fly 45mins from Auckland, hire at Kerikeri Airport a rental car; and 30 mins later you are here in Whangaroa Paradise! The perfect mid-week or weekend Break! Ample Parking in and around the house. The larger cabin is a newly-built designer eco-cottage with all modern conveniences. Next to it is the original (ca 1999) smaller, self-contained single roomed cabin with its small ensuite bathroom. My place is incredibly peaceful and relaxing. It's good for couples and solo adventurers.

                    The SpaceIts a modern house with open space: on the main floor are the kitchen, the lounge, the dining room, the bathroom and the laundry. Upstairs are the 2 bedrooms with a double bed and bunk single bed each. The huge deck is an extension to the dining area and 2 sails protect you form the sun while at night you can still enjoy the outdoor life by having a fire in the outside fireplace. The small BBQ is to be used outside only. We are on water tank and sceptic tank which means we are careful with the water consumption. For this reason we chose not to have a dishwasher and ask that you take short showers. Also note that our toilets like only toilet paper. Guest AccessGuest have access to the middle dwelling described above. Off street parking. In the garage you can use the double kayak, the 2 single kayaks and the bikes. The top chalet is PRIVATE. Interaction with GuestsIf we are in the top house, don't hesitate to come up and ask us for information. The NeighborhoodEveryone knows each other in the street so dont hesitate to introduce yourself to the neighbours if you see them. We all enjoy the tranquility and avoid loud music. Getting AroundThere are many places to go and visit in the area. A guide book and different maps are in the house. Please leave them there for other guests. Other Things to NoteThere is a small store at the Tauranga bay campground and at Whangaroa harbour (10 km). There is a small supermarket at Kaeo (17km) but we encourage guests to stock up in Kerikeri on their way north. In case of rain we are well stocked in DVDs and board games and jigsaw puzzles. There is no TV reception.

                        This waterfront property accessed only via a private gated road has it all. Whether you want to put on your snorkeling gear, rock fish at the bottom of the property, get amongst the plentiful crayfish and snapper or rest and relax with the tranquil back drop. If your into boating then you can launch from Tauranga Bay beach if you have 4wd or drive 10 min to launch from Whangaroa Harbour. Richard, of Northland Sea Kayaking, based in the bay, has 24 years experience of this coastline and would be happy to share it with you. The New Zealand Department of Conservation maintains an excellent range of tracks in the Tauranga Bay area, providing walks and longer hikes to some awe-inspiring scenery and ?hidden? treasures of nature. A 30 minute climb up to the towering St. Paul?s Rock and have 360º of utter beauty ? including the entire Whangaroa Harbour. The Mahinepua Peninsula Track is a 2km track which provides access to the many sheltered bays around the region. Another walk of note is the Motukawanui Island Track ? a 1.5 hour traverse of the largest island in the Cavalli group ? which has amazing views of Mahinepua Peninsula, Matauri Bay and the Cavalli Islands. There are a number of golf courses within a short drive from Tauranga Bay including the Whangaroa Golf Course and the prestigious Kauri Cliffs - only 20 minutes away. The KeriKeri Golf Club is also just a 40 minute drive from Tauranga Bay. Approximately 50m away from the cabin is a large macrocarpa seating bench with sea and yacht views, where not even birds notice one; and a wood-fired barbecue is also provided for outdoor dining.
