The SpaceThe room offers a comfortable setting, however the entrance is in the porch of our farm to house entranceway via the porch. The space is compact and comfortable. It is a queen size bed for comfort, but this decreases the space around the bed. There is activity in area outside the room so you may hear us. We cannot hear you however. We use this area when we get the cows in at 5am but its likely you will not hear us at this time. Guest AccessWe are a working farm, so access to the cow shed while the cows are being milked is accompained. We allow you to walk or cycle our farm track to the river (no driving), and other areas of the farm are accompanied. You can use the hammock at the front of the house. With a working farm, there comes some dust and there may appear at times to be harmless spiders around the windows which we try to keep clear. This is part of the wildlife of farm life. Interaction with GuestsWe are usually around during the day and the children are often on bikes and using all the spaces around the house. It is part of our offering to stay that we are an active family and you will witness a typical kiwi farming family in action. Our children are 11yrs, 10 yrs and 8yrs old. They are on the trampoline and hammock at times, but during the week are at school from 8.30am-3pm. The NeighborhoodThis area of the Bay is one of the most spectacular roads in the country, with wetlands over the bridges and a coastal road to the internationally reknown Farewell Spit. We boundary on the Aorere River, voted cleanest in NZ 2015. We have three local dairy farms, and a Cockle Factory in Pakawau with the local owner being our neighbour. The Whakamaramas are the hills behind our farm with vast numbers of Rata trees and manuka. We have our own bees and honey. Getting AroundThere are buses from Collingwood to Takaka and the Heaphy Track during the summer months. Often people will hitchhike in the Bay, so it is an acceptable form of getting around. Other Things to NoteIt can be noisy at times with motorbikes and children playing. The dairy shed has a hum when in use. The lambs will often baa, and we have two cats that are around and friendly. We have our BBQ in the porch area. If you do not like meat being cooked here then we can move it during your stay. We have our own bees, so if you are allergic then be aware of wearing shoes in the garden over the clover flowers.

Fabulous beachfront cottage located in one of the most beautiful areas in New Zealand - Golden Bay. Tastefully decorated and set in a quiet, private location surrounded by forest reserve and looking out over the ever changing blues and turquoises of the sea. Punanga (Maori for "sanctuary") is an ideal retreat from the hectic pace of 21st century living - relax on either of the two large decks and be mesmerized by the constantly changing views. Watch the antics of our almost tame tuis and bellbirds that come close to the decks to feed or just listen to the rhythmic sound of waves lapping the shore. If you can drag yourself away, Milnthorpe Beach is only a few minutes walk along the waterfront - a long, sandy beach which is great for swimming. The more energetic can walk all the way to Collingwood (45 minutes) where they can refuel on coffee and/or Rosy Glow chocolates) before returning home. Punanga's central location in Golden Bay gives you easy access to all that the region has to offer. Half an hour drive in one direction will bring you to the golden sands of Tata Beach; in the other direction you will find the wonder of Farewell Spit and Whariwharangi Beach. Tramp into Abel Tasman National Park or arrange a kayak trip. Drive to Totaranui and then walk to Awaroa, crossing the inlet at low tide, to have lunch at the lodge and then take a water taxi back to Totaranui. Drive to the beautiful Kaihoka Lakes in the Westhaven Inlet and if you have the time go all the way to Patarau and the wild west coast. Golden Bay is home to a large variety of artists and crafts people - wile away some time in the studios of painters, potters, jewellers, sculptors. Check out the local cinema in Takaka, head to The Naked Possum for one of the tastiest wild game pies and savour it in front of a roaring fire (Friday nights) or go to the Mussel Inn for home brews, toe tapping music and the region's most famous composting toilets!
