The SpaceSoak up breath taking views of this tranquil lake from your deck chair. This modern, self contained accommodation is ideally suited for a couple on their honey moon or for those couples who want a romantic getaway to unwind.
The main two-room accommodation is a comfortable double bedroom with a roomy, clean, fresh ensuite. There is another large room for living/ eating/ watching TV, with a pull out couch and kitchenette. This room has excellent views over the garden, lake and mountains. (Bird watching from the windows is a popular pass time)
The second bedroom - Lake View Room- is an additional sleep-out space for families or friends travelling together. It has two single beds and is separate from the main accommodation, just across the outdoor deck. The Lake View Room has the best view in the house, but no ensuite. If you would like to book this room, ensure you book for 3 (or 4) people. Alternatively, you can use the pull out couch in the lounge for a second bed - no extra charge- if you are 2 people needing a separate bed. Please let us know when booking, so that we can turn the couch into a bed, ready for your arrival. (Parents: Sorry, we don't take babies or very young children. We have tried and it is just not a good fit from both perspectives).
Relax right on the lake edge. Stay as a BnB or a retreat and take advantage of Carol's Skills and book a relaxing massage or nourishing facial.
Pick from your own vege garden beside the deck at your front door - fresh summer produce and culinary herbs. Ask Carol for a tour of her organic garden and working medicinal herb garden. In summer watch as Carol distills essential oils from the plants she grows, in order to make natural, fresh skin care products.
Extra catering is available - a cooked breakfast and a home cooked evening meal, using our fresh garden produce. (After a tiring day spent driving to Rotorua, ordering an evening meal for your arrival lets you relax and feel looked after).
Rotorua is a key tourist town, with an amazing number of options for all ages, interests and fitness levels. We are happy to advise on how best to use your time. New Zealanders are friendly, welcoming and well-travelled. You will not be disappointed if you allocated a week here as a base to see the North Island. (Yes, we have a weekly rate). At Careem BnB we are 15 minutes drive from the central city, so there is no characteristic sulphur smell. Just clean air, native trees and swans gliding through the lake. 2 kayaks are available for your use to explore the friendly & safe lake side community at a leisurely pace. Or hire mountain bikes and take on the challenging, world-class forest trails. If you love nature, this is exactly what your frazzled nerves need. Mike and Carol look forward to meeting you at our Lake Okareka paradise!
Self contained facility with your own entrance / exit, located around the side of the house. Your separate accommodation is located under our home. You have complete privacy from our living space. Mike has recently retired and Carol works part time from home. Carol runs a small day spa & massage / beauty clinic with public access from the front courtyard upstairs.
Downstairs your doors open onto a deck with direct access to the garden, lake edge and our jetty. Shared use of parking, lawn, garden area, lake edge and jetty.
Please note that there are no fences between this property and that of our neighbours. Tempting as it may seem, please do not walk across or make use of our neighbours' property.
You can have as much or as little interaction with your hosts as you desire. We will be pleased to help you book tours, provide you with pamphlets and advice about local attractions and where to go to find your special interests, where to shop, where to eat, show you the lake and help you plan your time to best advantage. We respect your privacy and you can be fully self contained and self-catering. You will find bread, butter, home made preserves, milk, cereal, yoghurt, fruit juice, tea & coffee in the cupboards for a self-serve breakfast. Or we will be happy to provide an additional breakfast menu (choice of 3, including vegan)- and evening meal - at additional cost - and catch up on the events of your day. The choice is yours.
If you have already viewed the photos you will see why we believe we are living in paradise. Lake Okareka is a small semi-rural lakeside village of approximately 350 residences. Whilst there are many holiday homes in use during the summer, it is also a picturesque community for many families, professionals and retired people. A safe place to live and walk, there are beaches to be swum, views to be enjoyed, and a compelling lakeside walkway, all within 5 - 20 minutes easy walk. Downtown Rotorua is only 15 minutes by car, our local shopping centre is just 10 minutes away and Rotorua has many tourist attractions for all ages.
You will need a car to get around as there is no public transport to Lake Okareka. If you're hiring a car, get a GPS for relaxed touring.
In 2016, mobile phone coverage has, at last, been turned on at Lake Okareka.
