Superb and relatively safe well patrolled surf (arguably one of the worlds best), clean fine white sand very scenic beach with offshore islands (walk to one at low tide), bush walks, two estuaries, both swimmable - one for marina/jet skiing, the other popular for canoeing and playing. 2 golf courses. Mini-golf. Boating club with busy restaurant and bar. Excellent bush walks with sea views. Refreshing river water-holes.
Close to Pauanui, Opoutere, Onemana, Whiritoa and Waihi beaches.
Well located for day trips to Tauranga, Cathedral Cove, Hahei, Cooks Beach, Whitianga, Coromandel town.
Whangamata has over ten cafes, many restaurants, and many boutique and surfing shops - you will happily spend a day or two browsing the main street.
Walk the length of the beach in the morning, lunch and shop and play mini-golf in the heat of the day, and swim in the surf from mid-afternoon working up an appetite for a barbecue back near the beach.
Or bring your boat and head out to the islands for fishing or touring or some excellent diving.
The village also has a New World supermarket, Bunnings Hardware, medical veterinary St Johns and x-ray services, swimming pool and tennis courts, RSA, boating club, and kayak bike and scooter rentals.
