The SpaceThis wide and spacious 130 square meter apartment is set in the top floor of a restored 1940's building just off Cuba street and is in the centre of Wellington's Cuba quarter, the artistic hub of the city. The apartment is very warm & quiet & has a large main bedroom with a queen sized bed and a second screened area off the side of the huge living space that functions as a guest bedroom. It sleeps four easily, but there is also a sofa that converts into a bed if you need to sleep more. There's a bath and shower, a large fully equipped kitchen with double fridge, breadmaker, espresso machine and dishwasher, and a separate laundry. The apartment is less than a minute's walk from the center of Cuba Street. I work out of a studio on Cuba Street, so I'm only a few minutes away, but tend to live on an old yacht at the moment when I'm in town, so I don't stay in the apartment more than one or two nights a week. ( maybe more if it's stormy ) The building has been strengthened and converted into apartments in the early 90's, but retains its classic features such as a high (16 foot!) stud, sweeping brass-railed staircases, and a set of original vintage elevators. In the 1960s the building was a storehouse for New Zealand's National Archives, and so is very well constructed, and the apartments here were all built before the apartment boom, and so have space in a way that nothing built recently would have. When living here I grew to love the sweep of space towards the balcony that looks out over the alleys and rooftops of upper Cuba Street and the feeling that you were living in a slightly furnished art gallery. But it's a ridiculous size for just one person to live in, so now it just really houses all my books and furniture. You're a minute's walk from Wellington's best dining district, and five minutes walk down Cuba Street from the theatres, the main art galleries, and from Te Papa on the waterfront. The apartment has unlimited fibre broadband wifi which anyone staying is course able to use. There is a secure indoor car park on the ground floor of the building that can come with the apartment, should you need it, just let us know a little in advance so that we can make sure it's clear. It generally is, but won't fit large vehicles unless you're very good at parking. There are towels, linen, cutlery, plates, a stereo, and everything most people need. There's also generally food in the cupboards that you should make free with (because it's for eating). And there's also strange old bits of art on the walls and more books than most people read in a lifetime. Guest AccessEverything. Interaction with GuestsAs much as they want really. The apartment's available when I'm out of town or on the boat, which is most of the summer these days. The NeighborhoodI love living and working out of cuba street, which is why i still hold onto the apartment even though i'm not in town all that much anymore. Another place like this would be impossible to find, and if i'm in wellington i don't want to be in the suburbs, i want to be able to walk or cycle everywhere. The cuba area is the heart of this strangely crowded little fishing-village of a city. Parking's impossible here, so everyone walks, and the place is about a 22-hour-a-day bustle of music and cafe's, galleries and theatres, bars and studios, all jammed up against each other in a rambling warren of hundred-year-old buildings. Getting AroundYou're about ten minutes walk from anywhere in downtown wellington or the waterfront, and five minutes walk from courtney place, which is the nearest major bus hub that'll take you direct too or from the airport.

The Space**WiFi, breakfast and CATS included - and no more dog!** **Available for medium term stays of up to 6 months - please ask. Currently we are looking for an individual or couple to stay for a couple of weeks - or longer - while we are overseas from 28 Oct - 13 Nov. I will offer a generous discount in return for you feeding our fur children and looking after the house :-). You will need to arrive a few days before the 28th so we can show you the animal routine, but you could leave on 13 Nov if desired. Alternatively, you could stay for longer (for the regular long term price). Please send me a booking enquiry/message if interested.** Are you looking for well priced accommodation close to the city, by yourself or with a partner? This is a 1914 character villa on a hill overlooking the city and sea. There are two double bedrooms, the other occupied by myself and partner Ciaran, with an open living and dining room and a shared bathroom. The open living area has French doors opening out to a great view over Wellington city and harbour. The area includes a leather sofa that opens out to a comfortable double bed in front of the French doors. The sofa bed is also listed on Airbnb (under "shared space"}. The two cats - our fur children - are Mogadon-the-matriarch and Neko, the handsome Norwegian forest cat. If you are lucky, one might select your bed as their chosen sleeping spot! WiFi, breakfast and cat cuddles are all included in the price. (Note that cat cuddles can't be guaranteed. They will let you know if you have been chosen to receive this privilege). You can help yourself to fresh plunger coffee, hot chocolate or a variety of teas at any time. For breakfast we offer toast, home-made muesli with yoghurt or milk, juice and fresh fruit. If you strike a famous stunning Wellington morning (see photos), you can eat breakfast out on the deck in the sun, looking out at the harbour. Who could complain about that? Check-in is flexible as we can leave you a key. Check in before noon will require payment for an additional day. Please check whether early check in can be accommodated before you complete your booking. Latest time for check in is 9:30pm. Sorry, arrival on late flights cannot be accommodated. Leaving early is no problem however. We love living here; beautiful sunny Wellington mornings where we can look out to the harbour and see the birds fly out from the Zealandia sanctuary. It's lovely just sitting on the deck in the peacefulness of early morning, coffee in hand, watching tuis and kingfishers feeding on the pohutukawa and flax. Come and stay! Guest AccessGuests will have access to their own private room, which is lockable; the main living area of the house (including the kitchen); and a shared bathroom. Guests can store food in the pantry and fridge. Guests can also sit out on the deck, in the verandah (like a sun room) and in the garden if you wish. There is no off street parking, but you can park nearby on the street and it is a very safe street. Many of my neighbours have been here for years without any security issues, and it is a dead end street so not a lot of traffic. I have never had my car or my guests' cars broken into in the nearly six years I've been here. Interaction with GuestsI'm quite a busy person, often going to the gym after work, and when I'm home I'm managing my various social and volunteer activities on the computer, or developing new lemon products for sale at the markets (my "Lady Lemon" business). My partner is usually home earlier than me, and we both like chatting to guests whenever we're around. We are very happy to tell you all about Wellington and the different things you can do. We have a whole box of brochures, maps, discount vouchers etc for museums, parks, gardens and other attractions available for you to rifle through. The NeighborhoodBrooklyn is a nice suburb with a village and cinema only 7 minutes’ walk from our house. There is a chemist, good takeaways (Chinese, Indian, Burger Wisconsin, fish'n'chips), dairies, a small supermarket, DVD store, two pubs / restaurants and a Caribbean cafe. The cinema tends to play art house movies and has a great restaurant and cafe too. On Tuesdays, all movie sessions are $10 all day. We love being in a quiet street, with birds flying around in the early morning from the sanctuary over the hill. We love the closeness of Brooklyn Village, with its art house cinema and amazing little antique store. We love being a stone's throw from the city but without the hustle and bustle of city streets. Getting AroundOur house is on a quiet street on a hill that is close to central Wellington - either 15 mins by bus to Lambton Quay (a main shopping area) or around 30-40 mins walk to shops and the waterfront. You can check out the weekend markets, Te Papa national museum (about 40-45 mins walk), the funky shops in upper Cuba Street (25 mins walk) and heaps more. You can follow the road or you can take a track through Central Park. On the way you might take a detour to Aro Street, home to excellent cafes, bakeries and eclectic shops. Walking back up takes a bit longer (45 mins - 1 hr, depending where you are coming from, or a 15-20 minutes bus ride). Often we host guests who are moving to Wellington or working or studying here short-term. If you are an active person you will enjoy the walk to The Terrace (CBD), Lambton Quay or the universities. You can get as much or as little hill climbing as you like, with buses for respite! Other Things to NoteDuring the non-peak season, roughly April to October, I can accommodate guests for short to medium term stays. For three full weeks or longer, the price is $300 for couples or $230 for singles. This is all inclusive except for lunch and dinner (includes the room, breakfast, power, gas, firewood, internet, land line (telephone for local calls) and cleaning) and compares well to the cost of renting an apartment close to the city or flatting long term with other people. As a medium term guest you are expected to change your own sheets (though you don't have to launder them), empty your own rubbish bin and dust and vacuum the room. I'm happy to negotiate a good deal with you but please do not ask to pay cash on arrival, ie. transact outside Airbnb. Doing so removes the safeguards for both of us, and could get me kicked off for not following the host's code of conduct. That would not be good! In addition, Airbnb has software that blocks the exchange of email addresses and mobile phone numbers until a booking has been made. So if you try to give me your contact details before making a booking, I won't be able to contact you anyway.

The SpaceThis is our family home, available when we are away - we travel often. There are three bedrooms. The master bedroom has a Super King bed (so comfy!), and the other two rooms have Queen beds. There is also a single mattress/squab available for an extra person. Our toddler is happy to share his toys, so please feel free to bring the family and make yourselves at home. The house is up a steep, straight path (there's a picture of the path in the gallery), so may not be suitable for people who have trouble walking up a hill. Hataitai is a lovely location. We are on the coastal side, with the beach and coast one minute's walk away in one direction, and the local shopping village four minutes' walk in the other. You're bound to find yourselves wandering down to Greta Point Cafe (three-five minutes' walk) and watching the birds, boats and planes. Several different bus routes are handy so you can get around easily. It's a 45-minute scenic walk around the coast to town - or faster if you go a more direct route. The home is fully-equipped and you are welcome to use everything. There's free wi-fi and a pantry full of staples you are welcome to make use of. Check-in and check-out are flexible. We've listed them as 3pm check-in and 10am check-out just for cases of back-to-back bookings (we need to clean the entire house in between guests, which takes a while), but if there's no one before or after you, you can come anytime you like. Guest AccessYou will have the whole house. Please make use of the fully-equipped kitchen, and help yourself to books (and toys!). Interaction with GuestsWe make our home available when we are travelling, and have a close friend available to look after guests as needed. We will continue to be available by email. The NeighborhoodThis is the best of all worlds: close to the city and airport, but quiet and beautiful. We live right on the Evans Bay coast, with plenty of birdlife and ever-changing views of the sea. Evans Bay is absolutely gorgeous for walks - and even swimming - or you can head uphill from our house instead for hills and views. In Hataitai village, there are several shops, restaurants and take-away places, including Thai, Indian, Chinese, burgers, pizza, fish and chips. We are regulars at Nakhon Thai in particular! There is a neighbourhood pub, the Realm, with adjoining restaurant, and regular Quiz Nights and other events. There's also a small grocery store (Four Square), a chemist/post office, an Asian food store, two cafes and a few other shops. This is a suburban neighbourhood and we have never been disturbed by party noise. The neighbours are friendly! We are within sight of the airport and you will probably hear some planes (and definitely see plenty) depending on the direction of the wind and time of day. Flights operate 6am-11pm. We have never found the noise disruptive. The Kilbirnie shopping area is 1.5km away, with two supermarkets and several streets of shops. It is easily reached by bus or on foot. In Kilbirnie there is also a large swimming recreation area and a library. Getting AroundWe are close to several bus routes, so it's easy to get anywhere in the city. We are five minutes' walk (up and down a hill) from the Airport Bus service, so that's a cheap and convenient option for airport transfers if you don't have much luggage. It's only 5-8 minutes' drive to the airport, though, so a taxi is also pretty inexpensive. Parking is on the street and free. Other Things to NoteI won't try and sell Wellington to you - if you're deciding to come here, you probably know how wonderful it is! All the good stuff is easily accessible from our home.

The SpaceBoutique apartment in the creative Cuba quarter in the heart of the ‘coolest little capital’ in the world. Here quality, character and culture combine to offer unique accommodation. Situated above one of the city’s leading contemporary art galleries in a building that was originally a stable, the apartment is distinctively furnished with top quality art, courtesy of the gallery. The Art Stable features one bedroom with a super king or two single beds and a sofa bed in the separate open-plan living room. Double glazing and luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets and quality linen should ensure a good night’s sleep. A full kitchen, with light breakfast provisions, is available, but with so many cafes right on the doorstep, you may just want to eat out. Your visit to Wellington is hosted (if you need a host) by Alison (and the sweet natured chocolate Labrador Coco) who live in the adjacent apartment. Coco is not allowed in the Art Stable or the gallery though and she knows these are no-go areas (got to have consistent rules). A born and bred Wellingtonian, Alison can provide advice on all the best places to see and eat as well as things to do. Just 500 metres from the city’s award winning waterfront, the Art Stable offers a warm retreat and easy walking access to everything the city has to offer – from inner city shopping and entertainment to harbour, beach and bush. Most of the year, we are happy to have one night stays but cannot accept these during holiday periods such as Christmas and Easter and during special events in Wellington. We welcome business travellers. Our prices include 15% goods and services tax which New Zealand business travellers will be able claim back. Guest AccessThe Art Stable is a totally self-contained apartment. Make it your home while you are staying and enjoy all the city has to offer once you step out the door. Interaction with GuestsAlison or the gallery staff are available to help you as required.

It is a characterful lower flat of a large 1918 Edwardian-style house. It has open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen. There is a queen bed in the bedroom. It has a separate bathroom with a shower. The kitchen has an electric stove, microwave, fridge freezer and a full set of cooking equipment. Bed linen and towels are supplied. Free parking in the street outside, with no parking charges or restrictions. The kitchen is set up for you to be able to do your own cooking, so breakfast isn't included in the price but we can provide breakfast for one or two night stays if it will make life easier for you - so do talk to us about your requirements and costs. The lounge has a 40" TV with Sky TV (including Sky Sport), DVD player and ipad/ipod/MP3 player charger/stereo dock. WIFI is also provided. The view from the flat is across Evans Bay to the Miramar peninsula and the Rimutaka mountains as well as out to Cook Strait. (Miramar is Wellywood central and home to Weta Workshop and the Weta Cave). We have occasionally seen dolphins in Evans Bay and even a pod of orca once. If you are independent, you can have complete privacy as the flat is self-contained with its own entrance. However if you want any help we are on site and happy to be of assistance. The flat is ideal for two people. A third person can be accommodated on the king single sofa bed in the lounge. The price quoted is for two people. There is an additional charge of $37.50 per night for a third person. The maximum number of guests is three people. We are happy to accommodate parties of up to 3 people. The flat is suitable for families with children six years old and over, but is not set up for families with younger children or infants, so we cannot accept booking for families with children under six. You will see from the photos that the flat has four bookcases stocked with books. They range from novels and poetry to art, history, science and travel (and there are even some cartoon books!). You are most welcome to browse and read during your stay. Is it a handy location for shops and travel in to town or airport? The flat is: * 2 mins walk from Hataitai Village with bus stops, shops and cafes (including a laundrette, an excellent Thai restaurant and a specialist chocolate shop). * 5 mins by bus into central Wellington/Courtney Place (no. 2 or no. 5), or a 25-35 min scenic walk along Grafton Road, down Grass Street and along the Oriental Bay waterfront. (You can also go this way on the no. 14 bus. It takes about 15-20 mins.) * 5-7 min walk away from Hataitai Beach and cafes and eateries at Greta Point. We are also handy to the airport - a 7-10min taxi ride away (and if our work schedules permit, we'll give you a lift to/from the airport). If you are here for a big event like the Rugby 7s, World of Wearable Art or a film premiere, we should be able to drop you in town for your event to avoid parking costs and hassles. Unfortunately there is nowhere to wash or dry clothes in the flat, but there is a laundrette with coin operated washers and driers less than 5 minutes walk away (30 seconds by car) down in Hataitai Village We are happy to consider longer stays as well as short stays of two nights or more, so do get in touch with us about your requirements. Some information about us: I run a consultancy helping organizations with long term thinking and my spouse plays the violin in the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (let us know if you want us to book NZSO tickets for you). We like cooking, reading, cycling, bush walking and watching movies. See our profile for more info. We are a smoke free household so we particularly welcome non smokers. Guest AccessIf you are independent, you can have complete privacy as the flat is self-contained with its own entrance. You have full access to the front garden. There is a small patio with a table and chairs specifically for your use whilst you are staying. Interaction with GuestsIf you want any help we are on site, in the house above, and happy to be of assistance, but we also respect your privacy.

The guest space is a private corner of the house for guests with own entrance if desired. A shared open living and dining area with fantastic unrestricted views of the bay. We welcome you with a light beverage and plenty of conversation if you wish. While breakfast is provided, laundry service and dinner is negotiable. We are more than happy to interact with you. We enjoy the company of our visitors. We are also happy to assist in helping you customise your visit to Wellington. Our guest book and reviews are full of enjoyed stays. Our home is in a relaxed seaside community and this is a friendly and safe neighbourhood. The seaside is constantly changing. Seals, dolphins, and orcas have been spotted in the bay by guests; if you are lucky, you might spot something too. Early risers are often wowed by our sunrises and a walk along the bay in the evening for a sunset over the South Island mountain range, the Kaikouras, is spectacular. Buses are within easy walking distance. We have a friendly Schnoodle dog named Jess. A shared open living and dining area with fantastic unrestricted views of the bay. Interaction with GuestsWe love hearing about your travels and we also love to help you familiarise yourself with our place and surroundings. We want to know what you are interested in so we can point you in the right direction. We enjoy sitting and chatting or allowing you to have your space if you prefer. The NeighborhoodWe are only 10 minutes from the city. While Wellington harbour is beautiful, the South Coast Marine reserve is spectacular. There is nothing like waking to the sound of the waves, the cry of the gulls and a breakfast with unrestricted sea views. Even on stormy days, the warm underfloor heating keeps your feet warm, while you enjoy the drama outdoors. Getting AroundParking is right outside the house and there are no time limits or costs. We are a 10 minute drive to town. Parking in the city is between $4 and $7 per hour depending on where you go. Some guest like to drive to Island Bay or Brooklyn then free park and take a bus from there. The less regular but closer 5 minute walk bus with 1 changeover takes about 30 minutes to get to town with stops. The longer 20 minute scenic walk is a more regular bus (every 10 minutes). Check the Metlink website for details. Other Things to NoteRachel works full time during the week and Selwyn works two days a week. We recommend a 2-5 night stay is better than one. Often guests use Wellington as a place to pass through while travelling between the North and South Islands. Those who stay one night often regret that choice, realising that there actually is quite a lot to see and do (see our Guidebook). We have had guests return on that basis. We have had longer term guests but suggest you try a week or two and see if our place is for you. We can negotiate rates from then on.

The NeighborhoodWellington is a great little city , Take the cable car to the botanic gardens, stroll along the waterfront , take in a theatre show , the national museum walk along interesting Cuba street or around the waterfront. The house is walking distance from all of these , the shortcuts to town have some steep steps. Wellington is built on hills, so be prepared for some steep places. The SpaceThe house is a bit of a tardis really it is small but roomy at the same time. Both the bedrooms are a decent size and there are spare mattresses if you do have more than 4 people staying. There is room for six which usually means sleeping on a spare mattress in the living space or there is room in the bedrooms to fit a mattress on the floor. There is a spare single and double mattress available for use. Guest AccessYou will have access to all amenities except for one of the wardrobes which will be fill of my gear this will be closed, otherwise the house is all yours. Otherwise I will arrange for a key to be left out and my contact details will be inside on the kitchen table along with a list of tips to different things in the house and neighbourhood. The NeighborhoodThe local Hataitai village is about a 7min walk from the house. In the village there is: A local pub called 'The Realm' it has a restaurant and bar out the back and a bar at the front of the building. The food varies to be honest, but the Pizzas are ok and good with a beer or two. A variety of takeaways – Hell pizza, Burger Wisconsin, Burger Fuel, Fish and Chips, and Chinese. A great little BYO Thai restaurant with very friendly service, reasonably priced, and they also do takeaways. There are buses that leave from the village into town. The No: 2 bus leaves frequently into the city. Check time tables on the metlink website (website hidden). Getting AroundIf you are driving there is a single garage available with the house so you have secure off street parking. See the photo of the house from the street. Please note, that the garage is a single garage and due to its configuration any car longer than 4.5 metres (14.5 feet) will not fit into the garage. I have a Suzuki Grand Vitara and it just fits lenghtwise! You can see the airport from the house so it is less than a 10 minute cab ride to and from the airport. A taxi into town is about NZ$15. I will leave you the phone numbers of the cheapest cab companies or there is always the Uber taxi app. From the house bus stops are a 5 or 7 minute walk away depending on which way you go. Upstairs there is a DVD, Chromecast and Netflix screen available and all cooking facilities. This upstairs area is a shared space with myself and Richard. Interaction with GuestsWe will welcome you and share our upstairs space as much as you wish. We both work most of the time but we are around evenings and in the weekends. We are on a steep hill so you will need to be reasonably fit to walk into town which takes about 20 minutes or you can catch the bus further down the hill about 5 minutes walk from the house. There is lots to do and see in the city and we would love to share our favourite spaces and places with you if you wish. You can also walk over the hill which will take you about 20 minutes depending on your level of fitness. Please note we are at the top of a steep road and the city is on the other side of the hill. There is plenty of free street parking outside our house. You can get a taxi from the airport for $25 - $30 or the airport bus for $8.00 but it is a steep 5 minute walk up the hill with your luggage. The SpaceCome and stay in the sunny guest bedroom of this cute 1940's home away from home. If you would like to combine Wellington's most beautiful coastal walks and nature with the opportunity to experience the city, this location is for you. The house has unrestricted views out over Wellington heads, and across to the ever-changing colours of the Orongorongo ranges - it's a beautiful view to soak up as you watch ships sail by. If you don't have your own car, a regular bus to the city is 3 minutes walk away. One of the city's most spectacular walks - the Eastern walkway - is 5 minutes from the door. If you are two friends (not a couple), there is a spare mattress and bedding. Guest AccessWireless internet access is available, as are cooking facilities and a simple breakfast of muesli and yoghurt with honey made by the bees on this property. Or, you might prefer to stroll 10 min down the road to enjoy coffee and breakfast at the fabulous Gypsy Kitchen, one of Wellington's favourite cafes. There is a shared bathroom and a washing machine is available. Interaction with GuestsI work during the day so you will have privacy. I also have a small friendly dog, Alice who loves people!(see photos). I can do airport pickups and drop offs if I am around when you arrive and leave - the airport is 5 minutes drive. I'm happy to tell you about local attractions over a glass of wine or a coffee too; I will also be in and out, doing my own things at times. The house is on the Miramar peninsula, near the airport and the Weta Cave (if you are interested in seeing where The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit movies were made). We also have a great selection of cafes a short distance away. The NeighborhoodThe house looks out over Wellington's spectacular south coast and bush and was originally built during WWII for military observers to watch shipping movements. Since 1946 it has only had two owners. It has a really nice feel and a big front deck where you can soak up the view. Getting AroundThe number 43 or 44 bus goes regularly into central Wellington ; the bus stop is 3 min walk from the house (see instructions at end of this section). On weekdays, a free shuttle at the end of the lane runs for commuters at the beginning and the end of the day. This will drop you off at the Strathmore shops where you can get coffee and breakfast or lunch at one of Wellington's popular cafes, the Gypsy Kitchen. The shuttle also connects with an express bus into town, the 30, which only runs at the beginning and end of the working day. From the Strathmore shops, you can also take a number 11 or 43/44 bus. If you use the buses, you can purchase single trips or a Wellington Daytripper ticket, which gives you unlimited travel after 9 am each day. If you are coming to my house on the 43 or 44 bus, ask the bus driver to let you off on the last stop on Tukanae street, at the corner of Ahuriri Street. The bus will turn right, you need to turn left and walk along Ahuriri street in the opposite direction. After about 20-30 metres you will get to Sidlaw street, turn right (uphill) here, after about 50 metres Bowes crescent is on the right. My house is the fourth or fifth along on the left hand side (semi-detached): 9 Bowes crescent. It is about a 3 minute walk to get from the bus stop to my house. If you are taking the bus into Wellington, make sure you wait at the bus stop on Ahuriri street - there is a small bus shelter there - this will ensure you take the bus in the right direction. Other Things to NoteIf you like to combine a city experience with nature - bush walks and the coast - this is a great location. The house is small, functional and friendly.

The SpaceHere you can enjoy a super comfy queen size bed and fabulous shower & bath ensuite. Your room is designed and built especially for house guests - it is in the main house but it gives you a higher degree of privacy because it is at the other end of the house from the other bedrooms. It flows into our casual sunny living area and courtyard garden, which is perfect for relaxing in. Open the doors to the garden courtyard and listen to the sound of birds and running water or sit out under the umbrella. Your room is double insulated and double glazed for absolute peace. The mattress is luxurious Tempur, the sheets pure cotton, the duvet is feather/down, nice towels.... the good stuff... it feels nice. At night with the lights dimmed the room glows with warmth reflected from the Jarrah wood doors and on a hot still night you can even open the door directly to the courtyard to catch any breeze and lie watching the night sky from bed - very relaxing. Please note your room does NOT have a TV or electric blanket. It DOES have fast wifi, hot water bottles, extra assorted pillows and blankets, hairdryer, heating... see the list of amenities. Breakfast is buffet style and includes homemade muesli, fruits plus toast, teas/coffee. Vegan options also.. Unlimited free parking is on the street (usually right outside our front door) with onsite storage for any extra gear you are travelling with, such as bikes you might like to use at the nearby Makara Peak mountain bike park, BMX Park or road bike circuit. Guest AccessAn entrance via the rear courtyard means you can come and go whenever you like, without thinking you might disturb our beauty sleep. You are welcome to .. - share our casual living area and the courtyard - use the kitchen to store and reheat food or make a light meal on the cooktop. - do a load of washing and dry it on the line (just ask). Small charge may apply for clothes dryer and hot water washes. Arrival time is by arrangement after 3 pm and the check-out time is before 10am, unless a prior arrangement has been made. Interaction with GuestsAs Hosts we are welcoming and helpful; relaxed if you just want to get on and do your own thing or happy to chat, share a drink or give local guidance to help you have a memorable visit. To use the family washing machine or something else - just ask, we will help. The NeighborhoodYou will love our location if you - want to see both the inner city and local living - want to relax in a neighbourhood that is safe and very quiet at night - want free parking - are happy to be 4 km (2.5 miles) from the inner city by local road. - want hassle free access to the city and waterfront. Our house is on a quiet private lane midway between two sets of village shops and very close to... - the city bus (meters away); the best serviced route in Wellington. Refer to Metlink Wellington for bus journey planners from airport and all around the wider city - excellent. - two village's amenities; supermarkets/delis/cafes/fast food/two pub restaurants (all only a 5 min walk) - modern 25m indoor pool and spa, open 6am - 9pm (2 min walk) - City Green Belt hill walks with views over Cook Strait to the South Island (a few minutes walk to the bush) - world class mountain biking at Makara Peak, with helpful bike hire at Mud Cycles (2 min ride) - Wellington BMX track 400m UCI international-level En-route to CBD ( Lambton Quay, Waterfront) is the.. - Zealandia Wildlife Sanctuary a major attraction (2km) - Botanic Gardens & historic Thorndon Village (3km) - Cable Car & Museum (3.4km) - Carter Observatory (3.5km) - Victoria University (3.7km) - Parliament Buildings/Beehive (4 km) For those attending events in the city - we are well positioned for getting to events throughout the city including the Westpac Stadium, the Events Centre, the Michael Fowler Centre, the Town Hall and all the inner city theatres We are also close to Otari - Wilton Bush which I love visiting towards dusk as the birds settle in for the night and the Owls awake. Magic. Ask me for directions. Getting AroundIt's an easy and scenic 4km+ trip to Lambton Quay (the shopping high street) and to Parliament, and a few hundred metres more to the stunning CBD waterfront area. If using the bus (recommended) Refer to Metlink Wellington for bus journey planners from airport and all around the city - excellent. Once in the CBD, everything is close and within walking distance ! The City is very compact and we love that about it. PARKING AT OUR PLACE IS FREE Unlimited free car-parking is on the street outside our house. BUS Walk mere meters to catch the No3 bus (mostly leaving every 10 mins) for the nine minute scenic ride into the CBD. Full day passes are available after 9.30am. Conveniently the bus route runs the length of the inner city, making most highlights a very short walk away and re-catching easy. The same bus passes through Newtown (Hospital, Zoo), Kilbirnie and to Lyall Bay on the Cook Strait coast. Locals use the bus service a lot - it's a good way to travel. IF YOU DECIDE TO HOP INTO INNER CITY IN YOUR CAR ... Parking on Wellington inner city streets is $4 hr for a maximum of 2 hours. Most areas on the CBD fringe have a 2 hour limit unless you are displaying a pre-purchased coupon specific to that area. At weekends the CBD parking is free on the street but beware, the 2 hour limit still applies and is strictly enforced. After 6pm you can park without charge or restriction. NOTE you may never park in Residents Only parking. Parking buildings allow you to park for longer and some do a maximum daily fee that can work quite well. Be aware some are more than the on-street rate. TAXIS...Wellington Combined Taxis are the ones I recommend using but if you have the App - Uber is here too. Note: You do not have to take taxis in order - you may choose the one you want! CAR (URL HIDDEN) you need to hire a car? Not for most of the city highlights; just if you have a good amount of time and want to drive around the coast or maybe over to the Wairarapa for a day trip. Ask me if unsure. Looking forward to meeting you soon! Pamela & Milton Other Things to NoteThere's a rather friendly cat called Porter. Interested in staying longer than 5 nights? The SpaceNice quiet, private room in a little town house - with a desk for anyone needing to work and FREE WiFi. Nice and warm in the winter and great outside deck for the summer. The location means you can go off and explore all day and be home within a few minutes to put your feet up. Transport from Wellington Airport: Taxi There are plenty of taxis located outside the airport at the taxi stand. A taxi from the airport to our front door should cost NZ$30apprx. This is the quickest and easiest option. Airport Shuttle There is an airport shuttle available that can be booked in advance. The shuttle van will go around dropping each person off at their selected destination. This will take a little longer then the taxi but is convenient and cheaper at around NZ$20. Just goggle, Wellington Airport Super Shuttle. Bus The Airport shuttle bus leaves from outside the airport a few meters south of the taxi stand, Bus 91. Just jump onto this bus and it will head into town and does actually go all the way out to the Hutt Valley, but you'll only need to take the short trip in Wellington Central and get off at the 'Courtney Place' stop and then walk to our house which would take about 10minutes and does include a few mins of up hill - Keep your walking shoes handy! Guest Access- Free Wifi - Short walk to Airport Bus - Kitchen - Lounge with TV - Washing Machine/ clothes line - If our guests need anything, just ask and we'll more then happy to help Interaction with GuestsWe are very happy to help with any questions, and help with anything needed. The NeighborhoodMount Victoria is right on the edge of the Wellington CBD. A 5min walk to the north will get you to the beach, or a 5min walk down the road you'll be in the middle of town! Or, get a beautiful panoramic view of Wellington by heading to the top of Mount Victoria - Also on our back doorstep! Getting AroundThere are buses that go up Mount Victoria and get you back through town (bus 20). The Embassy Cinema, The Te Papa Museum, Wellingtons restaurants/bars/cafes, Oriental Parade Beach etc. The best way to get our our little capital can sometimes just be walking depending on where you plan to visit. Otherwise there are public buses that start at NZ$2 and cost more the longer your journey. We also have a few train lines that leave from Wellington Train Station and head out to the Hutt Valley and even onto Levin and up the North Island.. Other Things to NoteIf our guests have any questions we are happy to help as much as we can. We are able to provide as much details as needed to for directions to our house as well. Would suit single person or couple. Possibility of also renting second single room for 75/night (for a third person or accompanying child: see photo). Close to bus stops, shops, excellent Indian takeaway, bush walks. Walk to city centre in 20 minutes. Guest AccessGuests have a separate floor of the house to themselves with their own bathroom (which is sometimes shared if the adjacent single room is occupied by another guest) and french doors leading out of the bedroom to an outdoor area with small table and two chairs with views of the harbour and lush valley. The kitchen seating area is also always available for guests to have breakfast, chill out, or evening drinks. The lounge (with sofas and a TV) is sometimes occupied with my two children but guests are welcome to hang out there too if they don't mind lego and the occasional family movie! Kitchen: Generally our guests can store food in the fridge for snacks and drinks but the kitchen isn't available for guests to cook their own meals because Wendy is busy cooking for clients (she runs a small catering business), her children or friends and family. If you really feel like a home cooked meal, why not ask Wendy to make you one? Or have a cooking class followed by a meal we share together? Interaction with GuestsI love meeting my guests and having a chat over breakfast or evening drinks if I'm not at work but am just as happy to respect your privacy if you prefer to hide out in your room. NEW! NEW home cooked meal option: I am now offering a new service due to guest interest. As a chef, I love cooking and am happy to provide an evening meal with advance notice. (Price and menu upon request) I also love teaching cooking, so if you're keen to learn a new dish or technique, I offer cooking lessons in house, or food tours including a visit to an iconic Wellington food market and picnic with wine match. Past lessons have included: sushi, fresh pasta and ravioli using the Italian pasta machine, eye fillet in mushroom cream sauce, how to make up a balanced cheese board (with visit to a French fromagerie), simple yummy basics (easy, healthy salad dressing and delicious vegees that even kids like!), various patisseries. I'm also open to suggestions! Here are the details: Fancy a cooking class, food tour, or just a home-cooked meal made for you by your host and professional culinary and patisserie chef, Wendy Joyce? I'm offering all three options (24 hours notice required). Feel free to ask me more and book a spot! You can check out my chef (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) page by googling Chef Wendy Joyce 1.Cooking classes: I regularly run cooking classes in my home and in the city. If you'd like a class on a certain theme, let me know 24 hours in advance and you can enjoy and interactive cooking class and eat what you've made at the end with a glass of wine or a cup of tea. Class times are 2-3 hour duration. Past themes have included: sushi making, fresh pasta, Japanese gyoza dumplings, chocolate truffles, apple tartlets in caramel sauce, Provencal vegetable tarts, roast stuffed lamb loin, chicken ballotine, creative almond tuile stacks with fresh lemon cream, nougat. Feel free to suggest a unique theme/dish of your choice! Cost: One dish wonders: $55 per person and includes all ingredients, the lesson, and recipes. Two-dish wonders: $75 per person. 2.Gourmet Food Tours: Wellington is a great foodie city! If you'd like a personal tour of some of the hottest food spots, let Wendy be your private guide, offering you an insider's view on Wellington's food scene. Wellington city is flat and great for easy walking! Wendy will reveal favourite spots often missed by visitors. Enjoy a moveable feast of small tastes, starting with a French bakery for a pastry, a boutique coffee roaster, then moving on to the gourmet grocery store Moore Wilsons to buy ingredients for a French-style picnic (think baguettes, cheese, salad, wine). Last stop is Bohemein chocolate shop for chocolate truffles or salted caramels. At the end of the tour, we enjoy a picnic together outdoors or back at Wendy's if the weather is inclement. Total time of tour, including picnic: two hours. Cost: $89 per person, two person minimum 3.Home cooked meals: Fancy a hot meal without leaving the house? Let Wendy cook for you! Menus change seasonally so enquire with Wendy. Cost: One-course: $25 (ex. Pasta with Wendy's homemade bolognaise sauce or basil pesto) Two-course meal: $40 (ex. A main such as eye fillet in mushroom cream sauce + dessert, or main + large mixed salad or barbequed mixed vegetables) Three course meal: $55 (starter, main and dessert). The NeighborhoodWadestown is a quiet, safe suburb with a small set of shops, a few take aways, stunning harbor and bush views, great walks, and easy access to the city by foot, bus or car. Getting AroundConvenient buses, walking, taxis or your own hire car. Free parking is available on the road by the house. Other Things to NoteThis being Wellington, stairs are a fact of life. Most houses are built on a hillside with access via outdoor steps. Luckily our bnb has generous steps leading down to the house. Once inside, you will need to descend a flight of wooden stairs to reach your room. Those with mobility issues would be better served by an inner city hotel with elevator. Our BnB is a 1920s modernised home with lots of character....and some steps!
