The SpaceThe Cottage is compact and cosy with two bedrooms. Freeview TV in master bedroom, and lounge. Log burner in the lounge where you can curl up and watch TV or listen to music over a glass of wine.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need.
Bathroom has an electric shower for continuous hot water. You will need to supply your own linen, however, towels pillows and blankets are supplied. For longer stays, I can usually supply linen, you will just need to let me know.
I do require guests to leave cottage as they would expect to find it, on departure. This will include, washing own dishes, placing laundry on basket, removing any rubbish, and a quick vacuum if necessary.
Bring any grocery supplies with you, you can purchase basics at the store, but they are over priced. Tea, coffee, sugar and also cooking oil, and a range of spices are available to use. Please re read these instructions, so there is no confusion. This is a typical Kiwi Bach, and it needs to be left as you found it. It Is NOT 5 STAR LUXURY. Please if you want room service, and someone to clean up after you, then check other facilities in Arthurs Pass., if you want a 70 year old Kiwi bach in the heart of the mountains then, you have found it....I have a cleaner, comes in regularly, its wee Kate and she lives right next door, and she will pop over and see you and make sure everything is ok.
O recently had a feedback that suggested I modernise the bach., this won't happen, its meant to be a typical bach, and modern will ruin the setting in the middle of the mountains.. Some guests have mistaken this for a motel, its not , its a great Kiwi Bach, that I love, and just wanted to open it up tp others. Guest AccessThe entire cottage is yours to enjoy. We do not live on the premises, (We live 2 hours away in Christchurch), but access to the property is easy once you have booked. I work 24 hour shiftwork, and it is very unlikely that I will be there to meet you. I do have a neighbour that looks after the property for me.
Please respect the internet usage and please do not download movies, there is only a limited amount per month, and it needs to be available for the next person.
please re read the house instructions, I need to add, this is a Kiwi V
Bach, not a 5 star Hotel. Interaction with GuestsEven though I do not live in Arthurs Pass, I am available at most times via phone. I am a Locomotive Engineer often driving trains through the area and working 24 hour shift work. If you love trains, you will enjoy the train theme throughout the cottage.
This is a typical self servicing kiwi bach, 70 years old. The NeighborhoodArthurs Pass has approximately 50 permanent residents. Through a gap in the fence behind the property and down a drive is the Wobbly Kea Restaurant. Across the road from the Wobbly Kea is the Arthurs Pass Store, with coffee, meals, snacks, a limited supply of groceries, alcohol and a petrol pump. The cottage is secluded, with the neighbours on either side not often at their properties. If you enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains then this is the place for you. It does get very cold in winter at Arthur's Pass, but once the fire is lit, it doesn't take long to warm up. Getting AroundEverything is within walking distance at Arthurs Pass. There are several nearby bush and mountain walks. Full information can be obtained from the nearby National Park Visitor Information Centre. If you feel like a change of scenery you can catch the train to Greymouth, spend an hour shopping and return to Arthurs Pass. The Tranz Alpine train runs daily between Christchurch and Greymouth as does a shuttle bus service. Other Things to NoteThe property is a work in progress, I have recently finished tiling the bathroom, and my next project is the wash house. Our cottage is quaint and comfortable but absolutely, not 5 star luxury! Sitting in the middle of the mountains., we love the cottage and really want to share it with others as it seems a shame for it to be left empty when we can't get there.
