The SpaceWe keep breakfast basics on hand, oatmeal, crackers, hummus spread, coffee, teas and juice. Brew a pot of just pickekd lemongrass tea - right from the yard. You can also pick our soursop leaves as a tonic tea to help you sleep. And it is reported the soursop tonic will target and kill cancer cells too. Built in 2001, the cottage has a small "great room w kitchen," queen bedroom, bathroom, screened verandah, washer and dryer and a lovingly maintained yard. You may find that despite all the fun places to go, when you get home, you may just want to enjoy being at the cottage. Cook some pasta, make a salad and enjoy a glass of wine or tea on the veranda. There is complementary wireless internet. The best part of Nevis Rainforest Mountain cottage is getting back to nature. Open the shutters on gorgeous days and the screens (if kept shut) will keep you bug free. Neighbors are close but the gardens afford you a pretty private space. The only creatures that may pay you a visit are a troupe of green vervet monkeys. And, you are only a 12 minute drive from Pinney's Beach using the bypass, or 20 minutes to Oualie Beach. At night, I shut the shutters and lock up for a cozy night's sleep. You'll be lulled by the tree frogs and the wind in the palms. Everyone falls in love with the view, the temperature (rain or shine) and the visiting monkeys ~ and being in and communing with nature. It rains up here more than any place on island. So if its raining, it just may be sunny at the beach! Guest AccessHome and gardens. Feel free to walk around the gardens and in the neighborhood. Expect to be met by stray goats, horses, cows, or pets. I advise against walking in the grass with bare feet. Nevis has fire ants with a healthy appetite. Remember we are on a mountain slope so shoes that afford you good footing are recommended when walking off the property. The neighborhood is on the volcanic slope so a car is recommended. Busses: Once at the cottage, you can walk for 5 to 10 minutes to the main island road where busses run weekdays both west and east and are very affordable, about EC$3 - 5. They are erratic on weekends. Almost nonexistent on Sundays! Stand on the side of the road for which direction you want to go in. If you're heading to Charlestown, stand on the seaside of the road; if you're heading to Gingerland stand on the peak side of the road. Interaction with GuestsThis is largely a self-serve cottage. Upon request we can suggest a car for hire, recommendations for a massage therapist, a local cook and cleaner and tour guide. When I am on island I am readily accessible to chat with, always accessible by text, "(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)," or email. And Marvin is usually available to help. The NeighborhoodWell landscaped with ficus, coconut trees, fragrant Ylang Ylang, bougainvillea, assorted palms & herbs & fenced for privacy you will enjoy both the feeling of seclusion, and a feeling of community. The neighborhood has a mix of expats and local residents. We are 5 to 10 minutes drive from 4 neighborhood restaurants and bars, 1) The Hermitage, 2) Bananas 3) Oasis Restaurant at the Botanical Gardens and 4) Indigo at Montpelier Inn. About 12 minutes due east around the island main road is Golden Rock Inn, and another ten minutes past Golden Rock, up the eastern coast is Nisbet Plantation Beach Club. That covers the nearby and destinations to the east. Ask around about local eateries. We have many little local snackettes and restaurants which serve chicken, rice, goat water and local fish. Getting AroundNOTE. Local busses are much more affordable than are taxis. Coming from St. Kitts airport, hail a cab (About $10US) to the Basseterre ferries to Nevis. (The ferry is about EC$25 or $8 US) plus $1 EC tax. Once in Charlestown, Nevis, at the pier, you'll look for a taxi (stand is at the end of the dock). If we are available, Marvin or I will arrange to pick you up. If you fly to Nevis, there is a taxi stand there as well. You'll tell them you want a ride to Brown Pasture village. (St. John's Parish) Another address is Banyan Tree (pronounced Bye-Yon) and Morning Star Estates. Do you know where Mary Byron used to live? Just turn up the road beside her house and drive up the hill and its the 4th yellow cottage on the left, in the rear, down the lane. Lavender shutters. You will need a motorbike, or car, or strong legs. The bus stop is a five minute hike to the island main road. If you're renting a car, ask your taxi driver to take you to M&M Car Rental in Camps or to Thrifty Car Rental, closer to town. Busses: Without a car: Once at the cottage you can walk down the road to the main island road where busses run weekdays both west and east and are very affordable, about EC$2 - 4. They are erratic on weekends. Almost nonexistent on Sundays! Other Things to NoteEden Life Centre is a natural health care destination in the neighborhood. (URL HIDDEN) The Hot Bath: Take the island main road to Charlestown - just on this side of town are the Bath Hot Springs. The hot sulphur soak is well worth the trip. Four large bedrooms, all with large, en-suite baths, and featuring four-poster beds provide ample sleeping space. There are two indoor sitting rooms and two large outdoor spaces and a gourmet kitchen. The furnishings are comfortable and romantic. An in ground pool provides refreshment beneath the mountain's peak, yet you are only ten minutes drive from the nearest beach on either the Windward or Caribbean side and a two-minute stroll from The Hermitage Plantation, where you can enjoy the restaurant facilities, bar ambiance and tennis court. Located above the charming Hermitage Plantation Inn, nestled in the hills of the solitary volcanic cone that is Mount Nevis on the island of Nevis, is Rose Villa, a spacious and beautifully appointed family home. We have a few neighbours but you will see more goat, sheep, donkey and of course monkeys, than people. The views are incredible and you can feel the breezes from the mountain and the ocean. The family lives on the property for added safety and local experience. As well we will make recommendations of local places to go and visit and eat. If you are looking for a vacation where you find out about the people and the culture, then Coconut House is the place to stay. **Price is based on a 5 night minimum** ***Ask about a Massage and/or Tennis Package*** We are in an elevated position on the mountain side on 他 acres of lush, tropical gardens, fruit orchards and exotic local plants which you have full access to and we share with you any fruit that is in-season. The apartment is separated by double doors, you have a private and separate entrance so you can come and go as you please. If you are looking for a non-touristy experience we can point you in the right direction Elaine (a previous guest booked through someone else has this to say). "Mountain View! What a place! Nevis is a beautiful Island and Mountain View is well placed to explore it, nestling near the edge of Charlestown, this accessible and cozy apartment is near enough to walk to the centre of the town and explore the shops, visit the local beach and relax in one of the many eateries. The accommodation itself felt nice and cozy, yet spacious enough for our needs and having the patio as an extension to the living area meant that we could enjoy the warm Mountain Breeze and look at the ocean whilst sipping on local rum and coconut water.. The owners, Tina and Elton, were very friendly and helpful, going the extra mile, nothing was too much trouble. They even chopped down fresh coconut and sugar cane for us from the trees in the lush surrounding garden and were happy to sit and chat, whilst at the same time respecting our privacy. Laundry was changed frequently and the place was very clean and tidy. Tina also runs a really good therapeutic massage service, should you find the time, when not exploring the many beautiful public beaches, hotel bars and beach restaurants." -- Elaine Barrow Project Manager We are up on the mountain side so you have incredible views of the Caribbean sea, the sunsets and an unobstructed view of Nevis peak. The area is beautiful with lots of vegetation, a few neighbours, you will see more monkeys, donkeys, goats and sheep than people. It is a safe and quiet area in Hamilton Estate. You can walk into town, or go for a hike through the villages, or down to Pinney's Beach. There are 6 main restaurants in the area and several local eateries in town. You can sip your morning brew while watching the clouds dance across the mountain or turn your chair and watch the ocean. We have great mountain breezes that will keep you feeling cool. You get two islands for the price of one, you can take a day trip to St.Kitts and explore that island or just enjoy your time on Nevis. If you are wanting an active and adventurous trip there is fishing, several hikes, golfing, tennis, scuba diving, climbs, historic sites, biking, swimming or just lazing on the beach. ***Tina is a RMT so ask about the Massage Package. If you are interested in a Tennis package, Elton is a tennis coach from Canada, he will hit with you or help you improve your game.***

Chez Wilson is one of the few heritage homes on Nevis, lovingly updated to modern standards by its current international owners. Nestled within two tropical acres replete with mature palms, lush plantings and fruit trees, and built around a secluded atrium, this spacious residence offers peace and serenity but is still within easy distance of both golden Pinney’s beach and the amenities of the Four Seasons resort. At the front of the villa is a large deck which wraps around a 66 ft long infinity pool with views across the Caribbean to St Kitts. This is the perfect spot for admiring emerald hummingbirds and banana quits with your morning coffee or taking in the sunset with something stronger as evening approaches. The well-furnished veranda has retractable awnings, making it ideal for dining, and inside there is a tropical central atrium – the coolest place to be in the late afternoon as you listen to water bubbling in the old copper sugar-pot fountain discretely hidden in the bushes. The overall accommodation comprises a master bedroom with en suite, enclosed balcony and sun deck on the upper floor, plus three other bedrooms, all with en suite bath on the first floor together with a large living room, dining room for eight and a fully-equipped kitchen. “If there is an island that speaks of old-time Caribbean graciousness, it is Nevis, partly for its gentle nature, and partly for its traditional elegance with lovely wooden villas in gingerbread and planation style - all wood, open windows and verandas, the best in tropical indoor/outdoor living.” The UK Daily Telegraph, Luxury Travel feature, 1st February 2014. This is what we want you to experience at Chez Wilson. Chez Wilson is discretely hidden behind a stone wall on two sprawling acres of palm trees, lush plantings and fruit trees in Upper Jessups on the Western side of Nevis. Laze around the 65 foot infinity pool, sip a Ting or Rum Punch on the verandah, catch glimpses of monkeys at play in the rear gardens, soak in the stunning views across to St. Kitts or Nevis Peak, view magical sunsets from the upstairs sundeck.…all in the peace and serenity of your own private hideaway. The property is lovingly maintained by the owners and offers maximum possibilities for open-air living. A perfect spot to relax, unwind and forget all those cares and woes.

Our vacation house, BLACK SAND COVE, has the FlipKey "Rated Excellent" badge, and won the "Top Vacation Rental" badge in 2012 and again in 2013. It's located is in a secluded part of the out-of-the-way island of Nevis. The house, just yards from the Caribbean sea, is set in an unique and extensive garden, which some guests insist is the most beautiful garden in the Caribbean. We emphasize on local plants and native species, and the uniqueness lies in great design, thanks to Julie Toll, the multi-award winner of many British garden shows. A broad wooden staircase takes you from the garden down to a small beach with soft, black sand. On our peaceful corner of the island, you'll hear only the sounds of nature: the wind in the banana trees, the birds, the crickets, and the waves on the shore. Our West Indies-style house has a great kitchen, convenient for 2 or 3 people to cook together. You'll spend lots of time on the large screened porch facing the sea; you'll want to eat all your meals here, and relax here with a book or game in the evening. Behind the house is a patio with views of the volcano and other hills. The swimming pool has large, broad stairs, designed as a great place for parents and small children to enjoy the water. There are 2 bedrooms, a sleeping porch, and 3 baths - plus a sofabed in the living room. Our favorite place to refresh is the outdoor shower with the views of the gardens and the volcano. The high, vaulted ceilings, traditional wooden awnings, and ceiling fans maximize the cooling Atlantic breezes coming over the mountains behind you. The 2 bedrooms are air-conditioned for the warm summer nights. The built-in computer desk (with WiFi access for your laptop and other devices) offers an expansive view of the sea. There are more guest testimonials on our website. Nevis is a small, off-the-beaten-track island, loved by those who enjoy nature, hiking, birding, and beach combing. The laid-back lifestyle on Nevis distinguishes it from our Caribbean islands‌.no stop lights or casinos here! Nevis fosters more tranquil pursuits, like our 360-degree views of sunrises and sunsets. It's hard to capture the scope and feel of the place in photos; I'm working on that with panoramic photos, which I'll post on the Black Sand Cove Facebook page. There you'll find lots more pictures of Nevis and of Black Sand Cove, with comments, recommendations, and photos from guests. You don’t need to be a Facebook participant; go there by putting this in your browser: facebook.com/blacksandcove. On the same 8-acre property, we have a small cottage with its own entrance gate and parking area, very private and separate from the house. It has a queen-size bed, a sofabed, and well-organized kitchen and dining facilities, all in one room. Like the house, it has a lovely color scheme that complements the local art work on the walls. It also has complete laundry facilities and WiFi internet access. Though the cottage has no pool, there is a hot-tub nestled amid oleanders and bougainvillea, very private. Learn more about the cottage on our website, blacksandcove.com Nevis is a small Caribbean island, rather undeveloped and off-the-beaten-track. Nature, hiking, swimming, birding, enjoying the rainforest and the fabulous views, and just relaxing‌.. these are popular activities. Nevis has lots of nice restaurants, but if you're looking for casinos, nightlife, and shopping, you need a different island. For a delightful natural environment, on a comparatively undeveloped island, we recommend Nevis! One of our guests, who grew up on a nearby Caribbean island, declared our garden the most beautiful in the Caribbean. What makes it so special? We use simple plants - largely native species, local plants that thrive in the dry, sunny, seaside location, like aloes, agaves, frangipani, and crown flower. Native hardwoods including logwood, mahogany, and wild almond, as well as coconuts and royal palms: these are main features of the landscape. The principle reason for the garden's appeal is the inspired talent of Julie Toll, a well-known landscape designer based in Britain. Plus the setting itself is charming: sea in front, mountain behind. There's plenty to do on Nevis, but some of our guests tell us that once they get here, they often don't feel motivated to leave the premises. They'd rather just hang around and enjoy Black Sand Cove. If you go to the Black Sand Cove website, click on About, and then Beach and Gardens, you’ll find a link to an article about our garden from the British magazine House & Gardens, October 2011 issue.

Nevis is a 36 square mile gem, the Queen of the Caribees. The Nevis Peak volcano rose from the sea floor about one million years ago. The earliest human settlement dates back to 2,000 BC. Europeans first set foot on Nevis in 1493, when Columbus stopped on Nevis during his second voyage to the New World. Columbus named the island St. Martin as it was first sighted on St. Martin's Day. Later the island became known as Nieves ('snows'), named after Santa Maria de las Nieves, or Our Lady of the Snows, but also because the clouds that often hover around the top of Nevis Peak resemble snow from a distance. Our house has everything: great views, lovely breezes, privacy, large rooms, comfortable furnishings, TV & Internet, full kitchen, a great pool, not far from beaches and restaurants. It is a lovely place to relax and have fun. We are in Gingerland, about 180 degrees around the island road from the airport. The house is on the hillside above the old Zetland Plantation, one-third of the way up Mt Nevis (also called Nevis Peak) at nearly 1100 feet. When we drive home from the beach, we marvel at the temperature change as we approach the higher elevation of Gingerland and Zetland Breeze. The evenings are cool, no air conditioning required. The view from the front porch is directly South, with the Atlantic and Montserrat to the left and the Caribbean to the right. In the center is the saddleback (Saddle Hill) of the southern end of Nevis, the pastures of Montpelier Plantation on the right and indian Castle on Windward Beach to the left. We built the house in 1992, probably one of the larger houses on Nevis at the time. We spend a lot of time out on the front terrace, which always has perfect breezes coming from the East....the famous trade winds. We often have breakfast on the terrace; cocktail parties always start there, spilling into the Great Room. Much of the main floor is hand-cut native volcanic rock. The house has four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms. There is a fully equipped kitchen and laundry room. On the main floor are the large entry hall, a half bath, kitchen, laundry room, dining room, large living room, a large, covered front terrace, and the master bedroom suite with a king bed. On the second floor are two bedrooms (each with two twin beds) and a full bathroom. On the lower ground floor, there is a fourth bedroom with two twin beds and its own full bathroom; this bedroom has its own outside entrance below the main steps of the front door of the house. (Because this room may miss the breezes at night, it is now air conditioned, just in case.) Behind the house are a private walled-in swimming pool and a covered outdoor dining area. (The small jacuzzi pool has a cover for safety.) For a nice dinner venue, we dine at the long white table up the two steps to the pool level outside the kitchen window overlooking the pool. Under a star-filled sky, perhaps with some nice music playing, this is quite pleasant. There is a gas barbecue just outside the kitchen door. Home entertainment The large pine cabinet in the living room houses the TV (with cable service including CNN and ESPN) and audio-visual equipment, including CD and DVD players. (There is a second TV in the master bedroom cabinet.) Speakers are in the Great Room and out at the pool. We have a growing collection of CDs and DVDs. Games. There are puzzles, cribbage boards, playing cards in the drawer at the bottom of the liquor cabinet in the entrance hall. Massage. Our little gray leather phone book lists many sources of massage on Nevis. The Four Seasons has a complete spa, of course. Internet access. We have high speed DSL, with WIFI through much of the house. Beaches and restaurants Pinney's Beach on the Caribbean is a 15 minute drive away. Many beach restaurants and bars thrive there, as does the world famous Four Seasons Hotel & Resort, where there is a beautiful and challenging golf course. Three of the loveliest plantation inns on Nevis are each less than 10 minutes away from Zetland Breeze: Hermitage Hotel, Montpelier Plantation, and Golden Rock. Their restaurants are wonderful, each one unique. (We have a 'handout' for renters with hints and tips about all of our favorite places on Nevis.) The house was built for airy island relaxation, and we love it. You will, too. Zetland Breeze sits on 2 acres among other homes owned by Americans, Canadians, British, and Nevisians. No two homes are alike, each built at different times to different tastes. Our hillside is distinctly Nevisian, with beautiful vegetation, mango and bougainvillea, and lots of monkeys moving through the garden on their own schedule. Our pool is quite private, suitable for skinny-dipping. On power walks, we have gone as far as Montpelier and the Nevis Botanical Garden to the southwest and Golden Rock to the east. Hermitage is just down the road. A rental car agency is nearby, and they are happy to bring a car up to the house. Local taxi drivers are happy to take you around, if you don't car to drive. Beaches are 10-15 minutes away. While there are no traffic lights on Nevis, there is now a traffic circle, which is negotiated in the English way (right hand drive).

This beach is almost 3 miles long, reaching from just outside of Charlestown all the way to the north end of Cades Bay. You can walk the whole length of the beach, including going past the lagoon at Nelson's Spring. And if you do walk the whole beach, you will only have to go off the sand a little way at two points, once because of a small rocky point, and the other time because of the rocks which were put down by the Four Seasons in 2005 to protect the north end of their property against erosion.
