Close to Glencoe, Fort William and Ben Nevis it is set in stunning Highland landscape surrounded by mountain, munro, loch, river, moor and forest. The village was home to the North British Aluminium company which built a hyrdo electric scheme and aluminium smelter in the 1900’s. This allowed Kinlochleven to be the first village in the world to have electricity provided to every house. The smelter has now closed but the hyrdo electric scheme still operates. Part of the old smelter now houses the Ice Factor. The worlds largest indoor ice wall and climbing centre.
The village has a small local Co-Operative supermarket which sells foods, drinks and essentials. This is open 7 days a week, 7am until 10pm. There are also some local pubs to eat at and a local seafood restaurant. On a Tuesday a fishman delivers fresh fish to the street. We have a local post office with a cash machine.
The famous West Highland Way, a 96 mile walk from Milgavie North Glasgow to Fort William passes right through the village. The area has many stunning walks and the village is a perfect base to explore the West Highland Vistas. Other activities available locally including mountain biking, golf, trials biking, kayaking, canoeing, river fishing, salt water fishing, cycling, motorbiking, Segway and power boating. Getting AroundThere is a national City Link bus which comes from Glasgow / Edinburgh to near by Glencoe. In Fort William there is a main train station which connects to London via a sleeper service. Local trains are also available to Oban, Mallaig and Glasgow. In Kinlochleven there is a local bus service which goes to Fort William via Glencoe, Ballachulish, Onich and Corran. The village is also accessible via bicycle along the quiet local roads and cycle paths. Other Things to NoteI am happy to pick you up if I am available. We also offer an essentials cupboard to make shorter trips easier. We have things like cooking oil, tea & coffee, honey, porridge oats, cereal, rice, pasta, soup. We are adding new things all the time and so are our guests. We just ask you make a donation to the cupboard if you use anything. We also have a local shop open 7 days a week, 7am - 10pm that sells everything.
