The SpaceWith a backdrop of the sometimes snow-tipped mountains on the Isle of Arran and far reaching views over the islands of Cumbrae and Bute, The Beach Bothy is a special self-catering haven in the most idyllic of locations. Take a bracing dip in the sea, have a beach barbeque (wrapped in one of our blankets as we move into autumn) or simply enjoy a long lazy lunch in the secluded garden and wait for the sun to set slowly behind the islands.
Bedrooms & Bathroom
The Beach Bothy has two bedrooms, one with a kingsize zip and link bed which can be changed to two singles where necessary, and a double bed, both with 1200 pocket sprung mattresses and crisp white bedding.
We have a beautifully fitted open plan kitchen/living/dining room, complete with Dualit toaster, brand new combination oven & microwave, gas hob, and everything we think you could need for a comfortable stay. Take a pew on our comfortable window seat around the kitchen table and watch for seals while you enjoy something to eat. Or in the evenings kick back and relax on our comfy sofa with a movie. For younger guests we have a Playstation 3 (with a selection of games) as well as board games such as Scrabble, Boggle, Monopoly & a deck of cards. There is also a small selection of children's toys.
We have a modern galley bathroom, complete with a bath, and a stand-in electric shower. We supply white luxury towels and hand towels for all guests.
At the rear of the property we have a utility/boot room, complete with a sink and a washing machine as well as a Sheila-Maid pulley airer for drying off wet clothes, beach towels, and walking or welly boots.
Directly outside our front window is our gorgeous front garden, which leads directly on to the beach. Pull up a deck chair with a drink and watch the sun setting behind the Isle of Cumbrae, or sit and eat lunch during the warmer days on a beach blanket. Guest AccessAccess is recommended from the rear, through the communal doors. There is also direct access from the beach, through the garden. Absolutely ideal for people with young children or dogs as there is no road to worry about. Just step through the front door and you're right on the sand. Interaction with GuestsHappy to offer any help we can with your stay. The NeighborhoodFancy trying some of Ayrshire's lovely seafood? The Catch At Fins Restaurant is a five minute drive away, which serves up award winning, seasonal, freshly caught Scottish seafood from the seas (and we can't recommend their farm shop highly enough for delicious home smoked fish, home made bread, and local produce) and coast around Ayrshire (booking essential.) Or if you fancy a laid back cocktail or a glass of champagne check out Scotts Bar & Restaurant – also within staggering distance if you fancy leaving your car behind. Getting AroundThe Beach Bothy is located on the sea front of the tiny village of Fairlie off the A78. To the north lies Largs (where the Cumbrae-Largs ferry leaves from) and Weymss Bay (where you can take a ferry to Rothesay.) To the south is Ayr and Ardrossan (the ferry terminal serving Arran and the Mull of Kintyre.) The property is less than an hours drive from Glasgow and two hours from Edinburgh.
By air you can fly to Glasgow Airport or Glasgow Prestwick which has daily flights from all the world. Car hire is available at the airport and in Glasgow city centre.
By car you can take the A78 all the way from Glasgow to Fairlie.
By Train. It is possible to travel to Fairlie from Glasgow Central. Just take a train from Glasgow to Fairlie, and the apartment is a ten minute walk from the station. Car hire is available locally. The local train also stops off at Ardrossan (for foot passengers to Arran) and Paisley where you can grab a taxi outside the station to Glasgow Airport (a short five minute drive from the station.)
By Taxi: The local taxi firm in Largs will pick you up from Fairlie and take you pretty much anywhere you want to go. Brisbane Taxis: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).
By Bus: You can pick up the local bus service from the main road behind the apartment, next to the church. The 585 goes from Greenock to Ayr and stops in Fairlie and Largs. It also stops in Ardrossan if you are catching a ferry to Arran. Other Things to NoteThe Beach Bothy is the ground floor of a shared Victorian house. The lady opposite us has two very small (kid friendly) fluffy dogs that like to run around outside from time to time but...if you're not keen on dogs, it's good to note!
We supply fresh ground coffee, tea, sugar, olive oil, salt and pepper and dried herbs. We also supply toilet roll, and cleaning products. There is no shop immediately in the village (although the supermarket is a short five min drive away) so we recommend doing a shop before you arrive or alternatively ordering one for delivery shortly after. Get in touch for further info if you need it.
We provide freshly laundered towels and bed linen, tea towels and loo roll etc as well as a travel cot and a high chair free of charge. We also have beach chairs for lazing on the beach and some beach toys for our younger guests. Oh and we supply a pet bowl for your furry friends.
