The SpaceWhile our house is advertised for six people (two double bedrooms with a third with two single beds), the house is deceptively spacious and can accommodate, comfortably 8, making it ideal for walking groups or a couple of families wanting to escape together. With the woods and stream outback the location makes for a perfect place for kids to explore, whatever the weather. We were there over Christmas this year and the children were rarely inside! Guest AccessThe house has its own, fenced garden and shed in which to store a few bikes. There's a well-stocked supply of logs provided for the wood burner too. The house and garden are for your exclusive use. Interaction with GuestsWe live overseas and so don't have as many opportunities as we would like to return to the house. However, we will be organizing for someone to meet you on arrival. We would also encourage you to email us during your stay to let us know what you think and, if you feel we need to make any changes for later guests to let us know The NeighborhoodWe're surrounded by perfect hill-walking (and fishing) countryside, with the Ettrick valley and neighboring Yarrow valley being amongst the most stunning landscapes in the region. Within a few miles you have Bowhill country house and estate ((website hidden)) which has an excellent children's outdoor adventure park as well as horse riding, a theatre and stately house to visit. Closer to home is Ettrick bridge which has the best family-friendly pub (Cross Keys) in which to enjoy a real ale and home-cooked food. Olympic winner, Ian Stark has a fantastic riding stables close by((website hidden)) which our family uses when we go home. Selkirk is our nearest town, roughly five miles away with everything you might need to stock up and enjoy a true Border town which can boast the patronage of William Wallace and Sir Walter Scott. It is also home to one of the oldest 'ride outs' in the Borders (dating back to the Battle of Flodden in 1513), in which hundreds of horse-riders traverse the nearby countryside during this annual summer festival. Don't forget to pick up a Selkirk Bannock whilst you're there! Getting AroundWhilst nestling in the hills our house is next to a good road to take you where you might want to go. We have parking for two large cars and space for bikes etc. To get to the house from the nearest airport (Edinburgh) you would take the City Bypass then onto the A7 down to Galashiels then on to Selkirk where you should take the B7009 (country road), going towards Ettrickbridge. Other Things to NoteOur house is home to a healthy pipistrelle bat colony and so, on summer evenings there's nothing better to do than to sit outside with a drink and watch them flying off and around the woods. Also look out for the tawny and other owls that live behind the house.
