We leave you to yourselves, but if there's a problem you can call us for help. The NeighborhoodThurso is a small town with excellent amenities. There are good local shops and supermarkets and you don't need to bring everything with you! The Wee Red House is very close to the beach, river, banks, shops, cafés, bars and restaurants, and to the 5-star visitor attraction, Caithness Horizons. We're lucky to have an excellent cinema too. Bike repairs, fishing tackle, health foods, pharmaceuticals... and the ice-cream parlours are second to none! Getting AroundIt's a pleasure to drive on the Far North's roads if you're not in a rush, as there's not much traffic and every route is scenic. From Inverness to Thurso it takes about 2.5 hours by road, but by train it takes 4 hours! This is because there are bridges for the roads, but the North Highland line winds its way round all the firths - it's a relaxing journey, with lovely views out of the window, but it's slow. Thurso station is about 10 minutes walk from the Wee Red House, and the bus stops are even nearer. Bus links with Inverness, Scrabster (the harbour by Thurso), Wick and John o'Groats are good. There are excellent ferry links to the Northern Isles. The nearest airport is in Wick, but more airlines and flights come to Inverness. Other Things to NoteThe Wee Red House is licensed for watching TV programmes online (there's no TV set). The Wi-fi connection is good. There's a clothes washing machine, but no tumble-drier or dishwasher. There's a selection of paperbacks to read, and a few films on DVD. Please be careful - the staircase is steep. There are two toilets, one upstairs, one downstairs.
